Hi there, as far as I know, it would be permissible for a hebrew catholic to practice many jewish rituals and therefore receive the eucharist. May he even take part in non-christian rituals in synagogue without mortal sin and therefore being allowed to receive holy communion? However, what happens if a catholic also practices islam, but without believing in every islamic teaching, is it a mortal sin and therefore eucharist will be forbidden? how far a catholic may go without being forbidden from receiving eucharist? thank you for your answer!

Yes sure, in fact many people may be in a similar situation

A Catholic cannot practice either Judaism or Islam.

Those are both non-Christian religions.

It is possible for a Catholic to participate in some non-Christian ceremonies, such as weddings and funerals and certain inter-religious prayer services, in certain circumstances, etc.

Catholics may attend non-Christian services as an observer

it can happen if the catholic takes part in islamic rituals for cultural reasons or if he hides his catholic faith for example or if he likes some islamic rituals but does not believe ultimately or fully in islam

Hebrew catholics are allowed to practice some judaism. But the question about islam is not if this is allowed but if this is a mortal sin that will forbid receiving eucharist.

One cannot hide their Catholic Faith. That would be the sin of human respect, i.e. hiding your Faith in order to please others. It is a mortal sin against the divine virtue of Faith and destroys the virtue of Faith in the soul.

I know because I’ve done it innumerable times (O Lord, have mercy on me.). I can’t be afraid any longer. I’m tired of people (not you!) making fun of my Catholic Faith. I’m tired of being afraid of what other people think of me.

Pray and learn more about the Catholic Faith. C.f. 1 Peter 3: 15:

[15] But sanctify the Lord Christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy every one that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you.

Why would a Catholic need to? My wife is a Catholic. For sure, she observes certain practices that are common to both Faiths: prayer, fasting, charitable works, good deeds, doing her best to live according to the Exalted’s will. She does all of this in the embrace of her Church. No need to do otherwise.

Islam and Catholicism are mutually exclusive. It’s like saying “can a circle be square?” It’s a contradiction.

That said, I see no reason a Catholic couldn’t participate in certain cultural events. Like if you had Muslim friends and they invited you to a big dinner to celebrate the end of Ramadan or something. There would be nothing wrong with going in the spirit of friendship. But that’s different than actually practicing Islam itself.

Yes, I can easily understand that this must be quite common, although I have never known of any instance personally. I certainly have Jewish friends who were baptized into the Catholic Church as adults but went on attending synagogue worship for family reasons. Did they tell a priest about it in confession, and if so, how did he respond? I have no idea!
