**I have bad news for you…there is no Christian world. **

No. You are right.* Because it was never the intent that we should built a religious clean state in this world. *In the high middle ages the Church attempted and failed and learned from that mistake. Since we do not try to built a Christian state you cannot say we fail. We can see however see how attempts in the Muslim world fail again and again. Sharia- Islam has much in common with other *tolitarian systems *that has failed, such as Communism and Nazism. In these ideologies it was also a tragedy for those of other faiths and persuasions to come under the rule of the tyranny.
*We as Christians work to have Christian principles in the world *(so we support political stuctures that seem good to the freedom and happiness of man such as the human-rights declaration and democracy etc, and free education).
“My Kingdom is not of this world”, said Christ. His follower John said: “The one who says he has no sin is a liar and the truth is not in him”. Islam is dangerous in that it upholds the ideal of a pure society cleared of all sin and misfits. Christianity speaks into the reality of man. It takes also the the frailty and weakness into account.
The most cold people you can encounter are those who claim they are not sinners. Therefore both atheism and Islam are problematic.

As I stated before, whenever people have tried to make a perfect society in this world by wiping out the inadequate elements, it has been by horrible genocide, bloodshed, and massacres. They were judged evil by history.

No one is even holding out as an ideal, any longer, the idea of a Pax Christiana. That has all disappeared and there are a bunch of secular states full of people who have little real interest in religion.

We do not intent to have a theocracy. You on the other hand fail again and again as you attemt it and people suffer at the hands of Islamic states. In fact, I give you that you are right that western states are secular, but I still think that the political principles by which they work are steeped in Christianity. That means: equality between the sexes, right to an education, right to a lawyer if you are on trial. Right not to be tortured etc. You do not live in an Islamic state do you? for it seems you take for granted the freedom that you have in western secular states.

On the person-level you are not right. there are many serious Christians and even many, many who yearly die for the name of Christ, mainly in North Korea and in Muslim countries and India.
We practice our faith mainly by striving to imitate Christ/ live holy ourselves instead of demanding punishment on others. We can start by the simple virtue of honesty and self-scrutiny, which are rarely found in the Muslim world.

So, what you described is the history of Catholic countries and states, and the rather typical secular diatribe against it that began in the 17th century. You just described Europe until secularism arose and displaced Catholicism, especially, and Christianity more broadly, making it politically irrelevant. All you are pointing out here is that Catholicism is in decline throughout most of the West. If ‘toleration’ of what is unclean is what you want, then you should stop being religious at all and embrace secularism. There is your future. [Though even that is a false future: even secularism has its clean and unclean, it just defines it differently.]

Jesus was not a politician. Thank God for that.
You spit out the words “tolerance for what is unclean”. Actually let’s get clear: you talk about people, dont you? But Christianity does not talk about unclean people, we talk about unclean actions. If you want to speak about sin then you have to get down and personal.
I am not fit to live in a society of perfect individuals… are you yourself
?
I have done many mistakes in my life and I continue to meet challenges that I dont always get out of perfectly. When a Christian falls into sin he feels guilty because he has sinned against him self (the calling of his life is to be a son of God) and against God and against another person (often). The Christian then admits his sin, go to the person(s) he has sinned against and says: “I am sorry. Can you forgive me?” and simultaneously he asks God’s forgiveness and he also has to forgive himself. You are unwise if you think* guilt and repentance *does not have a place in Christian lives. *Those who follow Christ become humbled. *If they dont, they cannot have COMPASSION, if they have no compassion they can not love.

No religion can stop asking questions about the human good and strive to put the human good into practice, to teach the good to its people and make it available to them in their lives. Catholics have largely forgotten that and, therefore, have no real future in terms of social impact upon the West. Christianity has imploded into meaninglessness.

Your statement is absurd to me. You speak to a person whose whole life has been changed by Jesus Christ and who knows people all around her who has been physically, mentally and spiritually healed by meeting the Living Christ. Ergo… Where you see nothing I see Everything.

Peace be with you and your house.

I converted to Islam about 4 years ago. Alhamdulillah.

I love Islam. I really do. I think I put that in my signature. 🙂

I love the teachings of Islam–one of the most basic principles in Shari’ah law is no harm, and no harming (or reciprocal harm.) I love the beauty of the Qur’an–something no other religion has really, is the Divine Speech eternally preserved. And the Qur’an is why I became a Muslim. It cleared up whatever issues I had with Christianity–basically following the laws of men instead of the laws of God. In Islam, we know it’s all God’s laws (or else it’s opinion.) And the matter of Jesus–why it confused me to pray to someone other than God. God says in the Qur’an, to Christians, “Don’t say three.” Getting over that obstacle that Christianity seems to have erected in its history made obeying God, and worshiping God, so much simpler, so much more fulfilling.

What can I say? I love Islam. 🙂

(Starting timer to see how long before someone calls me “brainwashed.”)

YOU’RE BRAINWASHED!

…How long was that? 😛

(I don’t really think Sister Amy is brainwashed, folks…before anyone seriously starts in…)

Where can one read this teaching of no harm in Islamic law?

Where can one read this teaching of no harm in Islamic law?
Read the Koran and you’ll see lots of harm! Of course you have to make sure you are not reading one of the watered-down interpretations of the Koran. I suggest reading the “Noble Koran” as it hold nothing back. Good education about Islam might have saved Sister Amy. In any case, I wish Sister Amy well in her new life as a slave…and remember Sister Amy, if you change your mind about Islam your fellow muslims will indeed kill you…even here in the US!

A quote from history for Sister Amy:
Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.

From Holy Rollers to Holy Qur’an

An American’s Journey to Islam

By Dellie Spencer Jr

…I continued to attend church until one fateful Sunday when the preacher stood up in the pulpit and said, “You know, the largest gathering of Baptist ministers will be held next week in Houston Texas, so I want all of you to give like never before.

Want you to reach way down and give from the heart, this is not the week to be stingy. My wife and I are going to be among some of the most important people in the Church and you don’t want us to look like orphans.

So give so we can go looking and smelling good, give so we can make a lasting impression on those folks and show them that East Mt. Zion loves its church heads."

People were clapping and saying amen all around me, and I wondered if I was the only one that actually heard what he said. This had nothing to do with salvation, this was a hustle. That was the last time I went to East Mt. Zion.

… I not only read the Bible, I studied it. I studied how it came into being, how it was formulated, and by whom. I read the works of religious scholars who tried to explain the Trinity, and other questions such as why we followed the ten commandments but not the rest of the law.

The more I read, the more inconsistencies I saw in the book and in the teachings. I came to see that Christians as a complete group only held one common belief – that God exists. Some believed Christ to be the son of God, others held that he was God Himself or part of the Trinity of personages, each with his own area of providence.

Some believe this same Christ was crucified on Friday and rose again on Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Although he was proclaimed to be divine with no father, two of the gospels give a lineage for him and they differ in their accounts.

I found that the Catholic Bible is larger by a few books than the non-Catholic Bible. There was nothing to unify the faith except a basic belief in God. This is the same thing I believed as an agnostic. I was still unsatisfied.

…“The Glorious Qu’ran.” …This time when I read the book, it spoke to me. I told a friend this and he bought a copy but stopped reading it because it frightened him. It scared me too, but it also gave me comfort. It was as if Allah was talking directly to me like a gentle and caring parent who loved me but would, if I needed it, punish me.

There was nothing in it that didn’t make sense, rather it brought certain things that were long out of focus into crystal clarity. Here was a unified religion worshiping one God and only one God – no mention of partners or sons. Everything in existence owes its existence to Allah.

man … all this nonsense over a fairy tale? Intellectual slavery & an inferior existence. No self-determination, in fact a hate of self. Christians, Muslims I sorry to say … it’s you who are lost. How about the religion of common sense, devoid of allowing yourselves to be placed at the mercy of the purveyors of hate, war, ignorance, and destruction. Why not have a world where our intellect, desire for a peaceful and prosperous life, and so on is our guiding force. Why not explore what man can accomplish ourselves without the shackles of ancient mythology?

Isn’t it the natural desire of every man and woman to be loved by others? Don’t we all want to feel special? There’s ways of doing this without pitting ourselves against one another.

The truly courageous admit the truth … there is no invisible god. If anyone has proof I’m willing to listen … but you have none. When I say proof I want to see this god you say is my master. I want him to reach out and make himself known to me. You can say I’m lost because I just don’t accept without seeing … I say you’re stupid for accepting without seeing.

Your bibles say we will only prosper if we obey god … but in fact the opposite is true. It’s always been rebellion that has led to prosperity. Whether the enlightenment, the revolution, etc.

Christians have the same desire, to follow God’s law. America, although predominately Christian is not a Christian country. America is secular. Also, I think that many Christians would rather a person follow God’s laws from love not because we force them to do so.
you’re right. Christian God is love, his very essence is love - remember the prodigal son? but i have this feeling from the posts of our muslims bros and sis that they become all “gods” for their sweep judgement to condemn others; and behead them for sinning against allah because they left islam. little gods, huh:confused: does conscience play a role in the way they behave:confused: the fruit shows the kind of tree they are, just what our Jesus clearly says.
God bless.

man … all this nonsense over a fairy tale? Intellectual slavery & an inferior existence. No self-determination, in fact a hate of self. Christians, Muslims I sorry to say … it’s you who are lost.
Well, thank NOTHING that you’re here to set us all straight! What would we do without you here to let us know how lost we are?
How about the religion of common sense,
How about you stop telling others how to live their lives in an area in which you yourself do not even participate.
devoid of allowing yourselves to be placed at the mercy of the purveyors of hate, war, ignorance, and destruction.
Preaching to the choir.
Why not have a world where our intellect, desire for a peaceful and prosperous life, and so on is our guiding force.
Because striving for God is our driving force. He is the source of any intellect, peace, and prosperity that any of us have.
Why not explore what man can accomplish ourselves without the shackles of ancient mythology?
Find me a time without mythology and then list the great accomplishments of this time and explain how they are directly related to the lack of mythology. On the contrary, you’ll find that your precious scientific accomplishments often grew out of a respect for the great legends, myths, and religions of the world. The foundation of my field, linguistics, is Panini and other ancient Sanskrit grammarians’ work on Vedic Sanskrit, as part of the scholarly studies of the texts of the Vedic religion. Gregor Mendel, the “father of genetics”, was an Augustinian priest. What the heck are you talking about? It is only in your own mind that a person’s religious faith somehow forbids them from accomplishing things.
Isn’t it the natural desire of every man and woman to be loved by others? Don’t we all want to feel special? There’s ways of doing this without pitting ourselves against one another.
Indeed. I fail to see how my personal belief in God is putting me against anyone. I harbor no ill will towards anyone who believes differently that I do, though I may consider them incorrect in this regard. That’s it. If you want to make a problem out of it, that’s your business. I’m too busy trying to accomplish things for God to care about the fact that not everyone agrees with me, honestly.
The truly courageous admit the truth
That we are all people, made in the image of God?
… there is no invisible god.
Oh. Oops. I guess you just want us to believe that this is the truth because you say so. Hmm…who are you again? 🤷
If anyone has proof I’m willing to listen … but you have none.
Well then we’re even: You have your belief and experiences that you interpet in such a way that for you God does not exist, I have my belief that He does and experiences to that end. Whose life is more valid, mine or yours? Good thing that GOD does not ask such questions, huh?
I want to see this god you say is my master.
So do I! Desperately so, in fact.
I want him to reach out and make himself known to me.
Well, what are you waiting for? PRAY!
You can say I’m lost because I just don’t accept without seeing … I say you’re stupid for accepting without seeing.
How about I skip the first half of that sentence, and you skip the last half…? That’d be the charitable thing to do.
Your bibles say we will only prosper if we obey god … but in fact the opposite is true. It’s always been rebellion that has led to prosperity. Whether the enlightenment, the revolution, etc.
“The” revolution? Which one? Also, I don’t recall rebellion working out too well for the Biafrans, the Chechens, the Ossetians, etc. It’s easy to look at history and say “this happened because group X did Y”, but it could’ve just as well gone that group X did Y and it did not work out as they had hoped.

Also, what do you then make of the history of Christian Anarchism, particularly as has been espoused in pre-Soviet Russia by writers like Leo Tolstoy? Are people living in this way better for having rebelled, or worse for having been Christian?

I must say, your view of the world as expressed in your posts seems a lot more restrictive, unintellectual, and drab than those of most Christians I know. Maybe you need to get out more and meet people of many different faiths and philosophies instead of shadow-boxing behind your computer.

Dr. Humble, whatever is bothering you man, you just need to let it all out. There are millions of people jumping off bridges here. You can choose the one with God catching you at the bottom or you can choose the one you are on with nothing at the bottom. You obviously have a self centered egotistical issue that needs to be checked at the door. Do you see a shrink often? Honestly man, just your personality is annoying, I could not hang out with you for more than 5 minutes if I knew you.

Where can one read this teaching of no harm in Islamic law?

Do you think I live in a hole?

I grow weary of such lame attacks on my faith. Watered down interpretations? There’s only one Qur’an, it’s in Arabic. I don’t think I’d ever pick up a book called the ‘Noble Koran’ which is something clearly written for Westerners, the editors of which couldn’t even be bothered to faithfully transliterate the word Qur’an.

I do have a translation called ‘The meaning of the Holy Qur’an’ by Yusuf Ali but I don’t like it very much personally. I have one called ‘The interpretation of the meaning of The Noble Qur’an in the English Language’ by Dr. Hilali & Muhsin Khan which has been my favorite english rendition lately, and then another called simply 'The Qur’an: Arabic Text with Corresponding English Meanings" which is published by Saheeh International. Notice how none of them even presume to actually be the Qur’an but humbly own up to what they are: an attempt to render the meaning of the Qur’an into the english language.

I doubt you’d be able to surprise me with something in the Qur’an that I haven’t seen–though you might smack the translations of the Qur’an that Muslims actually read. I guess you figure Muslims are as unconcerned as Christians as regarding the contexts of their scripture.

And then you say I haven’t been educated. But I say, I haven’t been duped into believing lies and myths propagated by Daniel Pipes and his ilk. I am constantly seeking to improve and increase my knowledge about Islam. But is it so hard for you to believe that I’ve been studying it for four years and every day I only love it more?

And as regards being a slave, I don’t think there is a nobler position to be in the sight of God–his slave. For He created me, and He sustains me. He is my Lord, and He deserves my worship. And worshiping God–that makes me a slave, something I’m honored to be.

But I guess you do think I live in a hole. That I’ve never watched the news, never read the Qur’an, never interacted with other Muslims. 🤷

I guess you win the contest, since dzheremi was only joking.

God bless.
Do you know which attribute of God is emphasized more than any other in the Qur’an?

I’ll give you a hint… it’s on the first page. Four times.

Does Allah have the right to judge people? Does Allah have the right to punish people? And does Allah have the right to spare them and have mercy on them?

Yes, yes, yes.

Do you have the right to disobey Him, when He commands you to do something?

Sister Amy; **I converted to Islam about 4 years ago. Alhamdulillah.
I love Islam. I really do. I think I put that in my signature. 🙂

… And the matter of Jesus–why it confused me to pray to someone other than God.**

Interesting. You prayed to someone other than God. You did not understand that Jesus is God. I take it you have not read the Gospel of John ever. Its clear from your words that you have never been a convinced Christian, so okay, another muslim convert to Islam from her own confusion.

**God says in the Qur’an, to Christians, “Don’t say three.” Getting over that obstacle that Christianity seems to have erected in its history made obeying God, and worshiping God, so much simpler, so much more fulfilling. **

Can I ask you something. The Koran is litterally the divine word of Allah, right? Allah is al-powerful and all-knowing, right?
So please, no one has yet been willing to answer me on this:
How can it be that Allah misunderstood the Christian teaching of the Trinity?? Never has a Christian anywhere worshipped three gods. We know we worship One God, One substance, an absolute unity and oneness of Three Persons. Here comes the important point: These three Persons are Father, Son and Holy Spirit. My question then is: How come your Allah thought that Christians believe in three gods: Mary, Jesus and Allah??? Can you see? alone through this one proof I have given you, I have undermined the whole Koran in its self-understanding. The true God would never have made such a mistake.
The spirit that revealed himself in Islam (or shall we just say Muhamad’s spirit) didn’t know the basic tenets about other religions, neither Judaism or Christianity. He had half truths and big areas of ignorance and error that he passed on to his allah.

This reason alone is enough that I and every logical human being can never become a Muslim. And I also expect that such extremely evident errors are the reason why Islam does not allow religious critizism, or for other coherent faith-systems such as Christianity and Judaism, to be seen in the muslim society.

What can I say, I love Islam.

You should strive to love God because of WHO He is… okay?.. ask yourself what defines a trustworthy and praiseworthy person… I assure you that your allah and his island-prophet does not meet the criteria of earned respect. Sorry if this sounds harsh. I am sure my Lord sees your good intentions… but He also wants you to come to Him and so you have the real and true life in Him and He will be your personal companion and help you in all things.

Salaam 🙂

There is no context to it. Can you show it is not conditional? Mohammed almost always qualifies what is applied only to a believer like 2:216.
Does Allah have the right to judge people? Does Allah have the right to punish people? And does Allah have the right to spare them and have mercy on them?

Yes, yes, yes.
The rights of God? What do you think is the purpose of our (human) creation?
Do you have the right to disobey Him, when He commands you to do something?
I bolded relevant passages below for you to consider in their context.
…9 Praise is not seemly in the mouth of a sinner:
10 For wisdom came forth from God: for praise shall be with the wisdom of God, and shall abound in a faithful mouth, and the sovereign Lord will give praise unto it.
11 Say not: It is through God, that she is not with me: for do not thou the things that he hateth.
12 Say not: He hath caused me to err: for he hath no need of wicked men.
13 The Lord hateth all abomination of error, and they that fear him shall not love it.
14 God made man from the beginning, and left him in the hand of his own counsel.
15 He added his commandments and precepts.
16 If thou wilt keep the commandments and perform acceptable fidelity for ever, they shall preserve thee.
17 He hath set water and fire before thee: stretch forth thy hand to which thou wilt.
18 Before man is life and death, good and evil, that which he shall choose shall be given him:
19 For the wisdom of God is great, and he is strong in power, seeing all men without ceasing.
20 The eyes of the Lord are towards them that fear him, and he knoweth al the work of man.
21 He hath commanded no man to do wickedly, and he hath given no man license to sin;
22 For he desireth not a multitude of faithless and unprofitable children.

Would you explain what you mean by the bolded post? What makes you think that we don’t take our scriptures seriously?

Yes, you do live in a hole. You ignore all the acts of violence perpetrated by Muslims on a daily basis acting on the commands in the Quran. Obviously you approve and condone such actions as long as they’re against the unbelievers, “the worst of creation” according to your “holy” book!

I’d rather be a “child of God” than a slave anyday. There is no worse slavery than that of the mind. And yes, Sister Amy, you are brainwashed because you cannot see the evil in Islam with its primitive, cruel and barbaric teachings. Islam is true to you simply because you want it to be. Not you nor any Muslim here has ever given any real proof of its validity. All you all do, is post a lot of rhetoric based on fuzzy feelings.

You can’t see the truth because you can’t get away from your self-righteous attitude and I feel very sorry for you.
“When I examined the Koran, the hadith, and the Islamic books under a microscope, I came to the absolute conviction that it is impossible – impossible! – for any human being to read the biography of Muhammad and believe in it, and yet emerge a psychologically and mentally healthy person.” Wafa Sultan

Vickie-
You are simply midreading violence in the Koran because in Arabic “violence” means “peace.” You just don’t see it because you are reading an English “translation.” It is not the Koran, it is the Qu’ran. Come to think of it, it can’t be the Qu’ran, because those are western letters. It is really **القرآن‎ **. Not sure if it matters what color the text is.

Do you think we should even be discussing this in English? Too much is lost in the translation.

In other words, the author’s personal interpretation of the meaning, not a true fatithful translation of the text. You picked the one you like. The one where Love=Hate, not the one where Hate=Hate.
