Amir…
So are you of Middle Eastern descent?
How would your family or other Muslim families you know would treat a family member if they left Islam…in England?
Yes, we think that the problems within Islam must be dealt with by Islam. There is www.newageislam.com…always refer them to others…these Muslims want to restore the use of reason to Islam which existed a long time ago.
Because of the internet, though, more and more people are becoming aware of these people…and we are now reading how Al Qaeda is targeting Egyptian Copt Catholics in Vancouver, BC of all places…I used to go to Vancouver, BC when I was in college at the American/Canadian state line. The Copts there have a webpage where they are denouncing aspects of Islam and now Al Qaeda has their names, pictures, and phone numbers and they are out to cut their heads off.
So the ‘target’ and threat of decapitation is only within so many hours from my home. This is why I am hard on people who come here…to not bring their violence and hate with no hope of mutual understanding and forgiveness to my land; we have more than enough problems of our own.
The Middle East problems have seemed to go on for so, so many years in the history of mankind…that have prominence…because Israel and the surrounding areas are the epicenters of great religions.
I began reading about the violence and continual warmongering by these after 9/11. It was like continual war and skirmishes for 1,400 years. Now it is coming to my land, so far, far away.
Last night at Mass I prayed to God that the world will rise up and finally stop the fratricide by these sects who blaspheme the Almighty God
Kathleen,
Honestly, even among “secular Muslim” families, a child officially renouncing the religion will face a steady level of opposition. This opposition doesn’t stem from religious zeal, but from the fact that culture and religion is sometimes inseparable in the regions where Islam thrives. Hence, renouncing one’s religion may be tantamount to disgracing the culture for some families. This is where honour killings come from - an act which is in no way endorsed by Islam itself, but practiced because it’s very common in Islamic areas. So, even non-Muslims living in, say, Pakistan may even commit honour killings.
My mother herself does not hold to any of the commandments of Islam, yet when I implied that I was interested in Christianity, she told me that we’re Muslim. This was a couple of years back so times may have changed, especially with all the recent atrocities in the Muslim word. Specifically the brutality of the Iranian regime when it came to handling the 2009 protests.
Islam needs a serious reform as much of it is barbaric. It’s not the odd isolated case like a Christian blowing up an abortion clinic, but violence in the name of Islam is found everywhere! From war in Chechnya, bombings in Iraq, stonings in Afghanistan, honour killings in Pakistan and forced marriages in Bangladesh.
No religion of God could breed so much violence, in my opinion. On the other hand, we won’t get anywhere by spreading fear like this video does and as a result encouraging hate against fellow human beings.
Peace.
P.S. And just to clarify for everyone, just in case, my comments on the outcomes of Muslim percentages on a country (as in the case of France) are purely my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
