Kaninchen we usually agree on most things on this forum but if you’re referring to the Troubles, most of the people fighting were not doing it on religious grounds, but ethnic and political ones, with religion as a convenient border drawn between the factions.

I don’t know whether we’re actually disagreeing here. I was doing a bit of ‘mirroring’ of word usage - ‘Christian extremist’ rather than ‘Muslim extremist’.

Actually, I think the word for the perpetrators of such actions should be ‘criminals’.

I think that they are worse than that, but that is a good place to start. Perhaps cold-blooded killers?
