Yes, this was just a couple of weeks ago, Eid Al-Adha. But it’s not a “day of atonement.” Not at all. It’s during the Hajj season which commemorates the life of Abraham. So Muslims do offer a sacrifice (of an animal.) The sacrifice is the slaughter of the animal (a goat, a cow, a camel, depending on financial situation, family size, etc.) and then they eat some of the meat (the family that slaughtered it) and share the rest with family and anyone too poor to have purchased an animal to sacrifice themselves. People can do the slaughtering themselves, which I think is better, or they can have someone do it for them. But, in Islam they do have a day of atonement – called “Eid Al Adha” which they just celebrated. So, if they sacrifice something – where do they sacrifice it? I just wonder – is it at the butcher? Because I know they usually eat Lamb for the celebration but I have not heard anything about the actual sacrificial offering being done by an Imam or something like that. I am being serious about questioning this – I am not trying to be offensive.
