From:christian-faith.com/forjesus/mormon-religion

Mormonism now teaches that God was once a man, and that man may become a God (through mormonism, of course). This contradicts the book of mormon itself, but mormons don’t really follow what the book of Mormon says anyway. Mormons are taught that God the Father is now on a planet near the star Kolob with his wives having spiritual children. They believe that Jesus and Lucifer (Satan) were once spirit brothers. They once taught that Jesus was married to more than one wife (I’m not sure if this doctrine is still taught). Some of the other fascinating religious beliefs of this group are listed below later in this page.
If you want to know what Mormons truly believe and teach, I suggest you head for the official LDS website, not to an anti-Mormons website. I could also direct you to an anti-Catholic website where you would get a lot of twisted facts and untruths abut the Catholic Church.

i thought this was about islam.

Is that a prayer?

If yes, who are you praying to?
If I ask you to pray for me am I praying to you? I am taking your meaning of “praying to” as a form of worship, which is NOT what Catholics do regarding Mary.

as they say, if you want to learn about catholicism, go to a catholic website:

A Child’s Prayer To Mary

Holy Mary, mother fair,
Filled with love for God,
Pray for us in all our needs.
Pray for us today.catholic.org/prayers/prayer.php?p=546

ok back to islam now. ALLAH AKHBAR! 😃

Pray for us today."

Sounds like we are asking Mary to pray for us. If you are saying we hold Mary to be a God or worship her you are wrong. If you are saying we ask for her intercession (i.e. pray to Christ for us) and her prayers, guilty as charged.

Prayer To Mary

You are really praying to mary and asking her to pray for you.

Why must you go beating around the bush? Catholics pray to Mary, dude. If you dont like that little fact, then catholicism isnt for you. 🙂
You are not being clear in your definition of “praying to”. We pray to God but that is worship because He is God. In that sense we are not “praying to” Mary. Define your terms.

dude, I’m not the one who said “Prayer to Mary”. And I’m not accusing anybody of worshipping Mary as a god.

I know, but we should be clear in our terms lest someone thinks Catholics worship Mary or the saints. The better and more accurate way to state it would be to say Catholics ask for Mary’s intercession and ask for her to pray for us. God bless.

Pray tell; Yes that is exactly what we are doing.

Perhaps you do not undestand intercession or that the Saints in heaven can hear us.

The early Christians took seriously Paul’s teaching that all the members of the Church are also “members of one another” (Romans 12:5) and that nothing—not even death—could separate us from the love of Christ.

Also, they had the example of the gospel itself, which clearly taught that the blessed dead were aware of and concerned about earthly doings (as for example the very dead and very blessed Moses was on the Mount of Transfiguration [Luke 9:28-36]).

So the Church followed this lead and held Mass near the graves of dead saints, asking the prayers and intercession of the dead in Christ since, as Jesus himself said, the blessed dead are alive to God (Matthew 22:29-33).

As to how the blessed dead are aware of us, we don’t know, any more than we know how God raises the dead or multiplies loaves. One common theory is that they know of us “in the Holy Spirit” or, as the Orthodox say, “The saints see us reflected in God’s eyes.”

This is perhaps the best analogy, but we must always remember that it is only an analogy to speak of a mystery.

Why the warning…? who is Robert Spencer and what does he represent, better yet as a good Catholic go and ask him what he thinks of Jesus (PBUH) or blessed virgin marry (PBUH)…?

Dr. Armstrong is a scholar in Islam and Islamic history and that is what the post was all about, good for her if she thinks Islam is peaceful and so do I, you have a problem with that and if so what is your proof to the contrary…? and don’t forget this has been discussed in an different thread.

Thanks
Islam is not peaceful and never has been! Tell me, why do Muslims go to non-Muslim countries in Europe and not integrate with the rest of the population? Why do they set up enclaves for themselves where non-Muslims fear to go?

Do you call it peaceful to attack people with iron bars simply because they were protesting the Islamization of Europe??

And check out the comment by a Muslim at the bottom of the page stating:

“If you put finger in someone`s eye, regardless of the place, what else do you expect?
Here, this unlawful conduct by this group was provoking right-minded europeans as well as muslims. Some people may have over reacted violently which no doubt was not needed, but when you provoke a group of people these are collateral damages you must be ready for.”

He calls it “unlawful” for non-Muslims to try to protect their countries from the cancer that Islam is!

Here is what an ex-Muslim has to say about “peaceful” Islam:

Islam is a religion of peace". This is what our politically correct politicians keep telling us. But what is politically correct is not necessarily correct. The truth is that Islam is not a religion of peace. It is a religion of hate, of terror and of war. A thorough study of the Quran and Hadith reveal an Islam that is not being presented honestly by the Muslim propagandists and is not known to the majority of the people of the world including Muslim themselves. Islam, as it is taught in the Quran (Koran) and lived by Muhammad, as is reported in the Hadith (Biography and sayings of the Prophet) is a religion of Injustice, Intolerance, Cruelty, Absurdities, discrimination, Contradictions, and blind faith. Islam advocates killing the non-Muslims and abuses the human rights of minorities and women. Islam expanded mostly by Jihad (holy war) and forced its way by killing the non-believers. In Islam apostasy is the biggest crime punishable by death. Muhammad was a terrorist himself therefore terrorism cannot be separated from the true Islam. Islam means submission and it demands from its followers to submit their wills and thoughts to Muhammad and his imaginary Allah. Allah is a deity that despises reason, democracy, freedom of thought and freedom of expression.

from lds.org:

“On the other hand, the whole design of the gospel is to lead us onward and upward to greater achievement, even, eventually, to godhood. This great possibility was enunciated by the Prophet Joseph Smith in the King Follet sermon (see Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 342–62; and emphasized by President Lorenzo Snow. It is this grand and incomparable concept: **As God now is, man may become! **(See The Teachings of Lorenzo Snow, comp. Clyde J. Williams, Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1984, p. 1.)”

*The Teachings of Lorenzo Snow:

*Dear Brother:
Hast thou not been unwisely bold,
Man’s destiny to thus unfold?
To raise, promote such high desire,
Such vast ambition thus inspire?

**Still, 'tis no phantom that we trace
Man’s ultimatum in life’s race;
**This royal path has long been trod
By righteous men, each now a God:
**
**
As Abra’m, Isaac, Jacob, too,
First babes, then men—to gods they grew.
As man now is, our God once was;
As now God is, so man may be,—
Which doth unfold man’s destiny.

For John declares: When Christ we see
Like unto him we’ll truly be.
And he who has this hope within,
Will purify himself from sin.

Who keep this object grand in view,
To folly, sin, will bid adieu,
Nor wallow in the mire anew;

Nor ever seek to carve his name
High on the shaft of worldly fame;
But here his ultimatum trace:
The head of all his spirit-race.

Ah, well, that taught by you, dear Paul,
Though much amazed, we see it all;
Our Father God, has ope’d our eyes,
We cannot view it otherwise.

The boy, like to his father grown,
Has but attained unto his own;
To grow to sire from state of son,
Is not 'gainst Nature’s course to run.

A son of God, like God to be,
Would not be robbing Deity;
And he who has this hope within,
Will purify himself from sin.

You’re right, St. John, supremely right:
Whoe’er essays to climb this height,
Will cleanse himself of sin entire—
Or else 'twere needless to aspire.

Poem by Lorenzo Snow, 11 January 1892

lds.org is such an anti-mormon website! :rotfl:
I never questioned that men can become gods. That is what is taught in the Bible, and that is what the early Christians believed. “He laughs best who laughs last.” I don’t think you realize how ridiculous you make yourself look. 😃

The bible doesn’t teach we will become gods. This is where the Mormons get it wrong.

It teaches that we will be united with him. There is a big difference.

The Bible teaches that we become gods. Early Christians teach that we become gods. I have already discussed that in these posts:

Not meaning to be confrontational here… but don’t you think you could do better as far as objectivity is concerned than a book written by a Serb (of all people) who says the Srebrenica massacre and Serbian rape camps are nothing but myths? This guy is clearly about as biased as you get.
Well at least you didn’t accuse him of being a Jew! 😉

No doubt Muslims will refuse to believe any research or writing by anybody that doesn’t tow the line for their particular sect, but even a Serb (of all people) is capable of writing a well researched and thorough account of Muslim history and influence.

The Sword of the Prophet is one such book.

Muslims do not have any problem at all accepting that the following Biblical verse is indeed a prophecy which has been fulfilled.
Maybe they should. Don’t muslims teach that the bible is corrupt?
"And this [is] the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand [went] a fiery law for them." … Deuteronomy 33:1

If you look closely at the wording of this verse, you will see that it bears the chronological succession of the prophets of God, like the rising sun.
Came: the first appearance of daylight in the morning; dawn.
Rose up: the arrival of the sun in the morning.
Shined forth: Mid-day sun which lights up the Earth from East to West. Islam has indeed come to shine all over the earth as the mid-day sun.

For a more complete explanation of this prophecy, kindly go to this webpage.
Firstly, given that the cresent moon is the chosen symbol of Islam, and not the sun, I can’t give too much interest into that post.

Secondly, given that that post is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read, again I can’t give it too much interest.

That is not prophecy. That is just a stupid interpretation of a biblical verse. It is stupid because the “chronological succession of the prophets of God” being likened to “the rising sun” is something that is made up to suit this verse.

Come on, hamba2han; Surely you can do better than that. After all, this is a thread for intelligent people looking for explanations and answers, not selfish interpretations.

That was the sin of Adam. The Devil tempted him into becoming God!
