How deep do you want to get into it? Bat Ye’or’s a very good detailed writer.

Robert Spencer’s easier to read
 
How much detail do you want? “Seeing Islam as Others saw it” by Robert Hoyer gives an anthology/critique of what non-muslims saw while Islam arose.

Hey me too, gone too long but am very glad to be catching up. Isn’t it so changed but only in some ways, the basics are there and I am learning better to be devoted.

Did you come here to the Eastern forum because you thought Islam as Eastern?

I did when I first started I thought this was a foreign forum, no pun.
This forum is Orthodox mostly but anyone can post here I think,
they will tell you if you are misinformed so ask away anything.
This is considered off topic but only to “them” ha haa.

Prophet of Doom by Craig Winn is quite a detailed, albeit hateful, book. It is very very hateful towards the Islamic founder. Actually, it is hateful towards Catholicism and just about every other religion too.

Prophet of Mercy by Jalal Abualrab is another piece of work to refute the hatred of Prophet of Doom. I’ve tried looking for it on the internet but I keep getting lost in Islamic Web sites. It might still be work in progress.

I’ve yet to see a good book or Web site about Islam that is unbiased.
 
Ever wonder why there are no good books on Islam? Because good and Islam don’t go together.
 
Try some books by Robert Spencer like The Truth About Muhammed and Religion of Peac:Why Christianity is and Islam Isn’t.

If you want an good history on the Ccrusades try A Concise History of the Crusades.

There is also a politally incorrect guide (PIG) to Islam.

Also check out blogging the quran (hotair.com/archives/2007/05/27/blogging-the-quran/). Here Robert Spencer is going through the quran Sura by Sura and discussing the historical context and ramifications for today.

I thought he might have recommended books on Islam, in general.
