I would expect you to have the humanity and decency to realize that just as you and the Jews no longer follow the laws about stoning people, most Muslims do not follow the laws that say similar things.
I am a humane and decent man. As I don’t believe in persecuting nor killing anyone. Live and let live, is my motto however cliched it may be.

I do know that most Muslims do not follow the commandments to hate, kill and oppress disbelievers. I do know that. But that is not a free pass for the religion that teaches it though.

Next thing you’ll give a free pass to Nazism because not every Nazi killed people. Only the stormtroopers did.
Then again I ask, what of the Jews? And how do you explain most Muslims considering those parts of the Quran not worth following?
Like I said - they have some semblence of humanity left in them. If you talk to those Muslims you will find they can never repudiate those verses. They just ‘turn a blind eye’ to them. But they still believe those verses are valid today. Just that it is better that some other Muslims do it.

Some might claim, without theological justification, that those hateful verses are only applicable in the time of the Caliphs. But that is clearly without theological justification. They have merely chosen to disobey their god. Which, again, does not give the religion a get out of jail card because another Muslim might read the same verse, hear the same sermon, and decide to become a jihadist.
Plenty of them do have problems with that.
Sure by silently condoning such behavior everytime they go on the haj.
Let’s play Madlibs. A ‘moderate’ Christian can turn into an ‘abortion clinic bomber’ at the drop of a hat. Nope, sorry, failed.
Umm… didn’t know Jesus told Christians to kill. But you know better. Aren’t those abortion clinic killers disobeying their God?

Why are you equating this disobedience to the Christian god with a Muslim obeying allah’s command to hate and kill disbelievers?

Oh… I get it… a Christian who commits a crime in violation of Christian principles automatically condemns Christianity. Right?
How do you feel about what Christians did about that back then?
Against or because of the teachings of Jesus Christ may I ask?
Most Muslims are not doing these things. Attack fundamentalism, not the faith itself.
The so-called fundamentalists are merely the stormtroopers. You can’t tell the difference between them and the ‘moderates’. They read the same Quran. They go to the same mosques. They come from the same families. They have the same parents and upbringing.

It’s just that the ‘fundamentalists’ act on their conviction while the ‘moderates’ have some semblence of innate morality to stop them from carrying out their orders from Allah.
Because unlike some people here, I can recognize the difference between followers and fanatics?
If both groups follow the exact same teaching what can you say? How do you sort the wheat from the chaff?

You are making a distinction that does not exist. Every true Muslim is a fundamentalist. Only those fundamentalists that have lost all humanity become jihadists. Those that do not kill still have some innate humanity left.

Sorry the truth hurts - but I’m only the MESSENGER.

Check these out, I found them a while ago for another thread. Peace and denunciation of violence aren’t very good at selling headlines.

And in any case, are they their brothers’ keepers? Do you protest abortion clinic bombings? Why expect others to hold to a standard you do not?
Thank you for these sites. They give me hope.

As for protesting abortion clinic bombings - I have on different threads and again today will proclaim that I do not condone them and never will. As for protesting against them - given the opportunity, I certainly would.

You see, that is one of the things that concerns me regarding the whole Muslim terrorist issue and the Muslims on this board - it seems to me that the only ones that will in no uncertain terms denounce the terrorist acts on this board are non-Muslims who are defending what they think real Islam is. Granted, I have not seen all the threads, but the time when I asked the Muslims on this board, point blank, if they would denounce those type of attacks, I got no response. On the other hand, I am more than willing to denounce any violence perpetrated in the name of Christianity.

In any event, I am heartened to see that there are Muslims out there protesting against the terrorism. I pray that they will be successful in stopping the violence and changing my increasingly skeptical view of Islam.

You’re welcome 🙂

I’d start with the Golden Age under the reign of the caliph Haroun al-Rashid. There’s quite a lot, really – Islamic cultures founded the first modern universities (a couple of them are still operating!), sponsored revolutions in art and science, brought Indian numerals and Egyptian proto-chemistry across to Europe, and generally have done a whole lot of good both for themselves and for the rest of the world. And yes, there’s been evil done as well, but what branch of humanity has done no evil?
I’m showing my ignorance again, but when was the Golden Age under al-Rashid?

Yes, but I think he was clearly referring to the time of Ferdinand and Isabella.

He also claimed that people here are teaching hatred against Muslims. How? By telling the truth about Islamic teachings today? I am yet to see a poster here advocated killing and persecuting Muslims in this thread or any other. But moral equivalence is a very tricky beast.
Ah, the reconquista. You’re right, the statements make a little more sense if the poster thought medieval Spain was actually Christian (even though it was really Muslim through virtually the whole of the medieval period).

Sorry, I think of medieval Spain as the Muslim Emirates and Caliphates that ruled the Iberian Peninsula from 711 AD until the reconquista began to show real progress in the early to mid-13th century.

You can even define the medieval period all the way to 1453 (a very significant transition year to be sure), but Ferdinand and Isabella are most definitely post-medieval era monarchs. They united newly Christian Spain, finished the Reconquista in 1492, and financed the Columbian (American) expeditions.

I’m showing my ignorance again, but when was the Golden Age under al-Rashid?
Around the same time frame as the Carolingian Rennaissance, right around AD800. Some of the stories in the Arabian Nights are based on the time period.

Edit - I guess it’s also known as 1001 Nights, and only some of the stories were inspired by the royal court of al Rashid in Baghdad.

Edit 2- I really love history. 🙂

Yeah, you’re right; I’m not so good with dates and eras. Substitute ‘Renaissance’, if you would.
