Here’s the video of the Israeli strike which murdered the Hamas Military Chief:

IDF video shows moment of strike that killed Hamas military chief

It seems like a drone strike to me. 🤷

Then again, I’m not very familiar with military technology. So, please don’t take that too seriously.

But, I wonder how many civilians were affected.:confused:
how would you even be able to identify any remains in that mess? i just saw the shell of a burned car - and i think the horn was still beeping!!! i read that the hamas military chief and his son were both killed. amazing how they can target one car.

Egypt is recalling its ambassador to Israel, according to Egyptian state TV. Probably expected.

I might be overreacting to this but I fear that an all out world war might start over there in the Middle East. I just hope and pray that all parties practice restraint and that this is over with as soon as possible.

War is fought very differently these days, especially in the Middle East. But I think you are right to anticipate tensions spilling over, which we’ve particularly seen over the last month in the case of Syria.

Tensions may not be all that high, at least right now. Looks like only the lowest form of diplomatic protest from Egypt:

Egypt recalls its ambassador to Tel Aviv for consultations in Cairo, in protest of IDF operations in Gaza; Israeli ambassador to Cairo expected to be summoned on Thursday to Egyptian Foreign Ministry (Haaretz)

Egypt is calling for an emergency UN Security Council meeting over Israel’s strikes in Gaza. [that won’t amount to much…]

** Summary of rocket fire from Gaza toward Israel’s south, and Iron Dome interceptions**: 14 toward Be’er Sheva; 13 Iron Dome interceptions; 3 toward Ashdod; at least 12 toward Eshkol Regional Council, all of which fell on open land and no one was wounded; 4 toward Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, all fell on open land; 10 toward Ofakim, all fell on open land; 3 toward Dimona, all fell in open land (Haaretz)

I seriously doubt it. Hamas has been in a state of war with Israel for decades now.
These incursions happen ever so often.

Though, on the other hand, I would say the landscape now has changed from what it was a few years ago, Iran closer to Nuclear Weaons, Arab Spring changing the governments in some of these countries.

Not saying a world or regional war would break out but things have changed some.

In the past, Egypt in likelihood, would not have called this meeting.

Just my two cents, but I would think a more realistic “world war” scenario would involve NATO getting drawn into a Syria-Turkey dispute (as Turkey is a member of NATO and all NATO countries are obliged to defend each other).

There are reports that the Arab League is preparing an meeting - as requested by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Reuters is reporting that it could be held on Thursday or Saturday.

Who would be on Syria side? I doubt Russia would defend Syria militarily in a war against Turkey

Yes, I would agree - although I believe the Turkey/Syria scenario has not been as active in recent weeks, possibly I am incorrect. Also the ‘Syria Opposition Coalition’ that was recognised, yesterday, by the Arab League and then the French.

Thank you Bezant. You expressed what I was trying to say but couldn’t just right. I am afraid of tensions spilling over. I just worry that with the Syrian conflict going on and I have heard that tensions in Lebanon are high as well, it just worries me. Plus with Iran being so close to getting a nuclear weapon I don’t have much optimism about the situation in the Middle East.

Looks like the US is backing Israel on this:

The US backs Israel’s right to self-defence, but “we encourage Israel to continue to take every effort to avoid civilian casualties”, the State Department says in a statement.

When and by whom was this launch site built? no doubt it was during the Mubarack years if it isn’t a fake in the first place. If it was it was with the knowledge of the UN just like all the launch sites in Israel are supposed to be, how are you trying to justify a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian laws that is verivied of an airstrike assasination that kills innocent bystanders and dares the arab world to strike back?

U.S. State Department issues a statement saying the U.S. strongly condemns the barrage of rocket fire from Gaza; regrets the death and injury of innocent Israeli and Palestinian civilians; “We support Israel’s right to defend itself, and we encourage Israel to continue to take every effort to avoid civilian casualties.”

“Hamas claims to have the best interests of the Palestinian people at heart, yet it continues to engage in violence that is counterproductive to the Palestinian cause.” (Haaretz)
