This isn’t about the Hamas, its about the Jews wanting isreal for themselves.
It’s about self-defense. When you are attacked, you defend, and remove the opponents ability to attack again. It’s true in the streets, and it’s true between countries. This is especially true with those in Hamas; they will kill every last Jew until the last drop of blood is removed from their bodies, and will kill their own to achieve that goal.

And Hamas wanting all of Israel dead or swimming in the Mediterranean Sea.
A Palestinian state already exists in the form of Jordan. Israel has already offered land for peace in the form of a two state solution. All the Palestinians need to do is allow Israel to live in peace.

Hopefully this will convince the residents that it is time for Hamas to quhit firing rockets into Israel
You have addressed Coatimundi’s reports of unfathomable human conditions. I can understand we may differ , what you have expressed is that now that peoe undergo horror they will in their own flesh understand…Would you address any human being like this ?
I can accept multiple perspectives , not a problem but “Hopefully” in your statement is definitely a non negotiable for me under any perspective , after all this is a Catholic website.

And the fact that Israel removed itself from Gaza in 2005 only proves that Hamas is not interested in a two state solution, i.e., it has used their absence in Gaza to attack them ( hence the blockade).

Why not leave by way of the sea? Is Hammas choking off that avenue as well as making the people stay where they fire their missiles? I do not hear of the people resisting Hammas.

Given that the vast majority of the rockets don’t reach their destinations, and the amount of Israeli civilian deaths pales in comparison, the incredibly disproportionate response of the part of the Israeli army is nothing short of a crime.

Hamas is wrong for lobbing rockets indiscriminately into Israel. But rockets aren’t the only way to cause violence and death; Israel kills children too by poverty, it’s just not as noticeable as rockets. As and far as innocent human shields are concerned, this is the official line of the Israeli authorities (and the media lets them repeat the mantra over and over again). Frankly, given that Gaza has packs 2 million into a region designed for 200,000, it doesn’t matter where they shoot from…Palestinian civilians surround the rockets anyway—no shields needed. And the population density is Israel’s doing.

Israel must:
  1. lift the blockade and give the Palestinians a chance to live like human beings
  2. Get to work on bringing Israel back to its 1967 borders. Currently, they are occupiers.
The Palestinians are not blameless either…they must:
  1. Disavow the terrorist actions of Hamas—terrorism does not help their cause in the long run
  2. Recognize Israel; while I believe the creation of Israel in the way that it was created was a mistake, there’s no going back, Israel is here to stay. Time to negotiate, and work toward a two-state solution with real power sharing.
True, Hamas talks of wanting to wipe Israel off the map, but Israel wants the same—they just don’t say it. That’s why they’ve creeped closer and closer west, seizing more and more regions settled by the Palestinians over time, and building more settlements. Of course they are resented by the Palestinians. In fact, I believe they view the Palestinians as sub-human anyway, and they see the children as future combatants against Israel; therefore, why not kill them, too. Do not underestimate the hatred on both sides.

On that note, the Palestinians in the past have recognized Israel as a legitimate state. But have the Israelis acknowledged—or will they ever acknowledge—the existence of the Palestinian state? haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-1.579701

It’s funny how on these boards people so often mistrust the media for their biases. But those same people will blindly agree with the pro-Israeli commentators and journalists, without putting themselves into the shoes of the Palestinians. What Hamas is doing is wrong, too, but no one should be surprised that people resort to violence in times of desperation.

This is complex stuff, and I urge everyone to try to inform themselves first before crystallizing their opinions. Keep an open mind. Read some accounts and opinions from the Palestinian point of view. Read history. I am still trying to understand this mess, I am still reading, inquiring, and learning.

Does Israel actually think their game plan of leveling Gaza to rubble and killing women, children, and the infirm is going to help their game plan in the long term? Is Hamas scoring points either? No on both counts. This madness has got to stop, but both sides need to come to their senses and be realistic about what it would take for both sides to live in dignity and prosper.

And that self removal by Israel was unilateral, not part of any deal.

Hamas has bought all this horror and misery upon the citizens of Gaza, not Israel.

Oh, yes, it’s that simple, as you say. ALL of the horror and misery is Hamas’s fault, NONE of it Israeli’s fault.

100% of the blame is Hamas.

0% of the blame is on Israel.

Awesome analysis. Why can’t everyone see that it’s really that simple? In fact, it’s so simple, no analysis is even necessary!

Israel has shown an acceptance of the right of a Palestinian state.
Hamas refuses to accept Israel’s right to exist.

Israel accepted a truce/peace accord brokered by Egypt, and supported by the Arab league before the incursion to destroy Hamas rocket sites and attack tunnels.
Hamas refused to accept Egypt’s offer.

Israel builds defensive missiles to defend their citizens.
Hamas hides their offensive missiles among their citizens.

There’s the analysis.

Before I start suspending people:

It is that simple-If Hamas quits attacking Israel , Israel will quit attacking Hamas.

Israel maintains a naval blockade of Gaza. This means no one can enter or leave Gaza by the sea. Fishing boats are allowed to travel up to six miles from shore, but if they go further they will be fired upon.

And that would resolve this whole thing? And the Palestinians will continue to live in poverty in a ghetto? Israel attacks Palestinians by oppressing them.

And by the way, to believe that Israel bears 0% of the blame for this crisis is untenable. Even a great many Israelis living in Israel disagree with Netanyahu.

Of course the result was a two state solution, which both sides accepted. One parallel is that the Muslim state is the unstable one, including areas which are the most dangerous on Earth. The difference though in this case is that one side not only refuses the two-state solution, but wants the other side wiped off the face of the Earth.

My analysis is simple. Deal with the people on their own level, and use force at the level they understand. Disputes between pacifists should be dealt with peacefully; mindless genocidal killers should be dealt with brutal force. That’s how it was dealt with in the OT, and that’s how Israel is dealing with it now.

And the reason for the blockade was to stop shipment of arms to Hamas-arms used to attack Israel.
