Of course the result was a two state solution, which both sides accepted. One parallel is that the Muslim state is the unstable one, including areas which are the most dangerous on Earth. The difference though in this case is that one side not only refuses the two-state solution, but wants the other side wiped off the face of the Earth.
Confusing. First you say that both sides accepted it, then you say only one side. Please clarity.

Also, wanting the state of Israel wiped off the face of the Earth is not the same thing as wanting Jews wiped off the face of the Earth. The latter is genocide, while the former simply states that Israel, created only in the 1948, became a country unlawfully, and should go back to not existing.

My analysis is simple. Deal with the people on their own level, and use force at the level they understand. Disputes between pacifists should be dealt with peacefully; mindless genocidal killers should be dealt with brutal force. That’s how it was dealt with in the OT, and that’s how Israel is dealing with it now.
“An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.”

Please read more carefully. The first situation refers to India/Pakistan, the latter refers to Israel/Gaza.

They want both. Just look at what goes on in that side of the world. If you think what is going on is Gaza is bad, you might want to watch some videos of what is going on with ISIS in Syria/Iraq. Beheadings, mass executions, etc. of Christians and Muslims that make Hitler like an amateur. When dealing with such people, pacificism doesn’t work. It didn’t work in Europe in WWII, and it is not going to work with a more brutal enemy in the Middle East.

Israel maintains a naval blockade of Gaza. This means no one can enter or leave Gaza by the sea. Fishing boats are allowed to travel up to six miles from shore, but if they go further they will be fired upon.
For years, the West has pressured Israel to ease the blockade for construction materials. Finally Israel relented. Did Hamas build houses and schools and bomb shelters for the people? No, they built tunnels with which to attack Israel.

72-hr ceasefire, apparently all agree.

“This cease-fire is critical to giving innocent civilians a much-needed reprieve from violence,” the State Department said in its statement. “During this period, civilians in Gaza will receive urgently needed humanitarian relief, and the opportunity to carry out vital functions, including burying the dead, taking care of the injured, and restocking food supplies. Overdue repairs on essential water and energy infrastructure could also continue during this period.”

There are better sources, but this is the quickest. PM Olmert, for one, made a land for peace offer that established a Palestinian state. PM Netanyahu has also declared support for a Palestinian state. It is Hamas that does not want Israel to exist.

Thank you for that. But it was for a demilitarized Palestinian state. No one in their right mind would have a state without teeth.

A good deal of posts on this issue are oversimplifications. Anyone (and I’m not saying you, JonNC) who views the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a black and white issue needs both a history, geography, and civics lesson.

I don’t believe anyone would expect Israel, surrounded by Arabs, would launch an attack on a demilitarized Palestine, but that’s me.

Of course it isn’t simple, but neither is it so complex to look over the history of the conflict and see that the aggressors have always been Hamas, and some of the factions before them.
Israel is willing to live with a two-state accord, and Hamas is no.

What is the problem with a demilitarized Palestinian State? Who do they need to fear?

The Oslo agreement seems to be a 20-year point of contention with a radical conflict extending for closer to 30 years. I don’t see the point.

We’re all aware it is not simple; it’s been going on for eons. However, there is no excuse…none…for lobbing rockets at innocent civilians and reputed nuclear weapons sites. You cannot deal with a genocidal, suicidal enemy and expect reasonable results, as history has taught us over, and over, and over again. We never learn…or I should say Westerners. Israel learned, and because we haven’t learned, we don’t understand the situation.

Being next to Israel, absolutely nobody. Even certain Arab States that hate the Israel publicly are glad they are there as a balance against countries like Iran.

Amen, and jihad may last 100 years, an idea the USA needs to comprehend. and while proposing moral equivalency by large along with the terrorists. What I see is Israel refuses to validate Islam jihad by extremists and apparently so does Egypt. I can’t see why the religion of peace can’t live in peace in the Holy Land.

Because the UN forces a nation(Palestine) to be cut in two for the sake of Israel after WW2.

Its wasn’t theirs to give.

Now that we are stuck with things the way they are this is what we have. A super power supporting a nation that doesn’t need to exist and a people being displaced.

Well actually Palestine wasn’t a nation then and hadn’t been for over a thousand years. The British Mandate of Palestine was a colony of Britain and not a nation. What the UN and Britain did, or at least tried to do, was give Palestine its own independant nation and give the Jews their own nation as well.

True. Gaza wouldn’t even exist as a separate entity if it were still under Arab (or Egyptian) control.

Wow, I just viewed the video someone else had posted earlier. Really interesting and eye-opening. It’s an intro to Isreali-Palestinian struggle, produced by Jewish Voice for Peace:

I recommend it for those seeking a different point of view. It lasts about 5 minutes.

I just linked that.

As for the Palestinians being a people I never said they should have their own nation its just that isreal been taking all the good land for themselves.
