It was always my understanding that the bride and groom were questioned separately, under oath, during that part of the prenuptial investigation.
I can speak best about the current process, and not the earlier one, but in the current process (which might be for the U.S.?), the couple is separated for the bulk of the questions (which do include “do you intend sexual intercourse and the possibility of children?”). However, if it’s a marriage between a Catholic and a non-Catholic, then the questions about maintaining the practice of the faith and of baptizing children Catholic are asked in the presence of both.The priest didn’t question us separately.
Both of you were Catholic, or no?I think the priest might have asked us together about raising the kids Catholic and I said we planned to do that and my husband-to-be said he was fine with it, had no objection. I think that was the end of the topic.
