I live in the Bible Belt South. Drinkng alcohol is legal and alcohol is available. The majority of people in this state have FOR DECADES kept dry county laws on the books because they do not think one sip of alcohol is okay or moral.

In some states marijuana is legal and now available. You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting those who staunchly believe marijuana use is not okay nor moral.

From my observation of human nature, if someone wants something, reeeeaaallllyyy wants it, they do not care if it is legal, they will do it anyway and the illicit nature of aquisition is a mere speedbump.

What needs to happen is to make our country a place where no woman wants an abortion. Where she does not have to be ashamed of placing her child for adoption, where we don’t tsk tsk judge unwed mothers, where men do not threaten to leave because they don’t want to raise a child. We need to make pregnancy a celebration, not make snarky comments in front of our kids like “can you BELIEVE she is pregnant AGAIN, don’t they know what causes that” or “I am telling you right now if you ever knock a girl up do not expect me to support that brat in any way”.

History teaches that it is best not to outlaw stuff. Just heavily regulate it instead.
During the time of prohibition, it was much easier to get a drink than it is today. There were no hour limitations. The way the booze was made was not regulated.

Actually, I do not believe the left all believe that abortion is not wrong. Their believe is that each person should decide yes or no on having an abortion. That is called choice. We all are liable for our own sins. God gave us the ability to choose yes or no on most things in lift. The consequences come from our choice.
Lets replace abortion with slavery.

I don’t think that slavery is not wrong. I think each person should decide yes or no on owning slaves. That is called choice. We all are liable for our own sins. God gave us the ability to choose yes or no on most things in life. The consequences come from our choice.

Does that sound like a sound argument?

Our Lady said the final battle will be the attack on marriage and the family and here we are. Of course abortion is not the only Pro Life issue but the liberal left democratic political ideology lays waste to all the life teachings of Jesus as depicted in the five Catholic non negotiables so it’s pretty clear how the battle should be fought and a great victory was won with the election of President Trump.

Another way to look at it is that if someone gets it wrong at the beginning of life then how are we to trust them on anything else?

The “choice” framing needs to go by the wayside. When pro-lifers pose tough bioethical questions about abortion, it hardly does the discussion any justice just to stamp the word CHOICE on it.

Instead of pro-life, why not a rebrand “pro-birth” because after the child is born there does not seem to be all that much concern about the quality of the child’s life, including child health care, education and other quality of life issues.

Cardinal Arinze makes short work of that “choice” nonsense:

OK, in all seriousness, as a long-standing supporter of Democrats for Life and Consistent Life, I get soooooo tired of this canard. I especially love it when I’ve been working my butt off all day assisting refugees and get to listen to someone who doesn’t even know me accuse me of not caring about born people. Let’s start to lean a little more on charity and giving others the benefit of the doubt rather than personal prejudices and stereotypes.

The argument goes something like, “Well, society doesn’t do enough to support mothers and children after birth, so, can’t really get behind stopping abortion.”
It’s essentially a pro-abortion argument.

Choice. The person is offered the opportunity to determine what they want to do.
Some people make right choices and some make wrong choices.
Whether it be elections, education, jobs, use of substances, etc.
I do not like abortion, but that is my opinion and that is my choice.

I like how this thread started off as a castigation of pro-lifers, from an ostensibly fellow pro-lifer, for being too narrow minded when it comes to life issues, and then once actual pro-lifers came in and started talking about non-abortion issues the topic was changed to “choice”, thus belying the motivation of the original post. It’s almost as if there was never a desire in the first place to have a good faith discussion about being holistically pro-life.
