It’s Time to Bring Back the Sedition Act
Ratheresque in Proportion, Newsweek Fabricates a Story about our Military.

By N. Beaujon
May 19, 2005

Last week Newsweek magazine printed a story alleging that soldiers at Guantamamo Bay routinely dropped their enemy captives’ Holy Koran in the toilet during interrogations. The story, not surprisingly, set the Muslim world ablaze with rioting, violence and anti-American sentiment. Sixteen people died, one hundred were injured and “holy” Mullahs everywhere were calling for yet another jihad against the United States (a.k.a. - “The Great Satan”). What else is new?

The story, as it turned out, was an unsourced fabrication, a slander, a lie, rushed into print with Dan Rather-like zeal in an effort to humiliate, demoralize, and ultimately, endanger our military and Americans everywhere. Making U.S. soldiers’ job harder, more dangerous? Sure. U.S. establishment media “reporting for duty”. It’s time to bring back the Sedition Acts.

Early in our country’s founding, yes this was done by our founding fathers; there were a series of laws passed in anticipation of a possible war with France. The founders knew what problems big mouthed media traitors could cause during wartime and, in response, passed the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 which made it illegal for any person to “print, utter, or publish … any false, scandalous, and malicious writing” against the government. [1]Plenty of journalists were tried for seditious libel, sadly, none of them were hanged but Congress didn’t stop there. The founding fathers, in their infinite wisdom passed the Alien and Naturalization part of the law which authorized the president to deport any alien considered dangerous, even in a peace time. So we’d see the same results as in Jefferson’s time?

25 newspaper publishers - all Republicans - were convicted on that charge, and fined. The public outcry was so great that it contributed in part to the election of Thomas Jefferson, a Republican.

Once elected, Jefferson pardoned all the men convicted, and the Congress restored all fines paid - with interest.

So much for wanting a repeat of those trials.

Don’t forget those imprisoned in World War 1, for doing nothing more than expressing pacifist views, and the near-fascist pro-war hysteria that gripped the country during that time.

I must add that, if this article represents Ms. Beaujon’s sincere belief, then it is safe to label her, without hyperbole, as being a fascist.

Why is this trash still allowed to be posted here, without any commentary or discussion at all from the OP? The only thing s/he does on here is post articles by this particular columnist.

Fascism is in favor of supressing discussion. Watch out, that is what you are advocating? 😉

Fascism is in favor of government supressing discussion. Private entities (like this board) can do whatever they want. And my problem with the OP is that he doesn’t discuss – he just drops another article by Ms. Beaujon and runs without saying anything of his own. Check out his posting history – it veers very close to spamming the board with these articles.

Teachers were prosecuted in 1918 for mentioning the American Revolution because it was sedition against our ally.

That is not very nice. So don’t advocate supressing discussion. Advocate encouraging discussion from those who don’t now do so.

I suggest you read my discussions on other boards. I respond to others posts but not my own. Just the way I am. With my posts I 've said what I had to say. You can search under wjhii to find my coments on others posts.

But you’re not saying anything, you’re just C&P and linking to articles by one particular commentator. And the majority of your posts have been links to articles by N. Beaujon or some Hagan fellow.

So, do you seriously agree with the sentiments expressed in this latest article you’ve dropped on us?

No, I would personaly hand that news week fellow over to the afgans to stand trial for murder.

I haven’t read the Newsweek article yet, but what in it was so different than the other reports & articles that have come out over the last 2 years stating desecration of the Koran in interrogations?

Thankfully, you are not in charge of the justice system in this country.
