I read this series but it has been so long that I don’t remember them very well. My favorite was Out of the Silent Planet. I think I will reread them.
I was only in middle school when I read them, and I’m embarrassed to say that I really didn’t “get” them. I’m like that with sci-fi/fantasy stuff–I lose track of the plot and characters.

But I did get the concept–that Planet Earth is “silent,” closed off to the rest of the universe because Man fell (sin) and even though Jesus died and rose to redeem us, we still have people who reject His sacrifice and we still have sin.

Meanwhile, the rest of the universe–planets full of beings who did NOT turn away from God, is enjoying a full existence without sin. They know about Planet Earth and Adam’s fallen race, mankind, and are able to study us without getting “contaminated” themselves.

So sad.

And I think this could ??? be an explanation for UFO sightings-- the beings on other planets are “studying” us and probably talking to God about us! It’s kinda cool to think about.

The Bible says that God created “the heavens and the earth.” It just doesn’t make sense that God, in all his infiniteness (is that a word?) would limit his creation to just human beings. I can see why perhaps the other beings on other planets are not created “in God’s image.” Perhaps they do not have free will and therefore are not capable of choosing to reject God.

Of course, this means that they will never hurt us or “invade earth” to take over our planet and make us all slaves (or SPOILER ALERT STOP READING NOW IF HAVEN"T SEEN THE TWILIGHT ZONE EPISODE “TO SERVE MAN”!!!–take us up to their planet to eat us!)

Remember, a true Catholic is in this world not of this world. Hence, we are aliens or “extraterrestrial”. 😇 God bless.

A really good series that touches on this is the Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis

Married bachelors, too?
How about Virgin mothers?

Seriously, aren’t priests married bachelors?

They aren’t married but they’re in a sense married to the Church.

I prefer the term extracosmic.

Since a true eternal life transcends the created world.
