"It’s a sad day in the city of Los Angeles to have lost an officer," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

*Last night, approximately 200 hundred Los Angeles Police Officers including men from the elite Metropolitan Division, SWAT Team, responded to a location in Los Angeles, where a suspect had telephoned the Los Angeles Police Department, to report that he had shot and killed (murdered) three members of his own family and was holding three others against their will. *

*The responding officers were unable to immediately confirm, that persons had been murdered at the location. *

The suspect, who was armed, barricaded himself inside the location. The Officers who responded to the location, formulated a tactical and a rescue plan, which included a dynamic tactical entry. The SWAT team officers executed that plan.

The SWAT officers believing that the suspect posed an immediate threat, in an effort to naturalize that threat and rescue any victims inside the location, without regard for their own personal safety, entered the location and engage the armed suspect.

*A gun battle followed and four Los Angles Police officers were wounded, one fatally, one critically and two with less serious injuries. The murder suspect was also fatally wounded. *

*51 year old, SWAT officer Randy Simmons, a 27 year veteran with the Los Angeles Police Department (more than 20 years as a SWAT team member) was murdered. *

*His team member, 51 year old Jimmy Veenstra, also a 26 year veteran with the Los Angeles Police Department and married to a Los Angeles Police Captain, suffered a near fatal gunshot wound to the face, he is expected to survive. *

*Prior to this tragic event, these officers were not just “Cop’s” they were both, “Super Cops”, and exceptional human beings, the very best of the best and legions on the Department. *

Officer Simmons* had recently received an award for efforts, helping sick children at the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital; he also started “Glory Kids” a foundation to help disadvantaged inner city children. Officer Veenstra is a Medal of Valor recipient. *

*Please pray for all those affected by this tragic event, especially for **Officer Simmons, Officer Veenstra **and their family, friends and fellow officers. *

Officer Randy Simmons was a good man and he will truly be missed, “May God Bless and Keep Him!”

I will pray for the soul of the fallen officer and keep his family and friends in prayer also. I will also keep the officers who were wounded in prayer and their family. My MIL’s husband is also a S.W.A.T. officer and I worry when he goes out to save people, but he tells me he loves his job. I am sure these men love what they do and we, as the public, should always be grateful to God for men and women who want to protect us all from criminals. We should be keeping them and all police officers,as well as other professionals that serve the public, in prayers always for their safety.

And your point is? What about the people who are tasered to death by police? Why are police officer deaths so special?

Because I knew and worked with this man. He was a good man!
Is your comment here really necessary or appropriate?

RIP, Randy and may God have mercy on your loved. Prayers for those who were injured. God bless them all.

Lord of Providence, have compassion upon the soul of the departed officer, who gave his life that others might be saved from certain danger. As this was in imitation of Jesus Christ, reveal Your Divine Mercy unto him, granting him an eternity in adoration of Your Holy Countenance. Take pity upon all whose lives were sacrificed without purpose, by applying the blood of the Lamb, which was shed for our salvation. Father, we pray that not one which was destined for Your Son will be lost. Grant strength to their grieving loved ones and graciously provide for them as they recover from this profound loss. Take pity upon the troubled soul who shed innocent blood, and thereby forced his own blood to be shed. Draw the victims closer together in love, as You are love, O Precious Lord. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers for this tragedy.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

I went to this link and saw the he leaves behind his wife and two teenagers. This can’t be easy for them. I will keep them, Officers Simmons, family in my prayers as well.
Thank you

Merciful Lord in Heaven, You reveal Your love to us through tragedy, so that a greater good may come from it. Draw the involved families and loved ones together in faith, so that they may take comfort in You, O Lord. Through the illuminuation of their hearts by Your love, many souls will be saved through reflection on and contemplation of Your Divine Countenance. You sent Your Blessed and Beloved Son to inspire us, to strengthen us, to save us from our sinfulness. Do not withhold His love and presence from us in this time of grief, for You did not deny Him to the grieving Apostles in the locked room after the Resurrection. May profound healing and deeper love of You result from this teaching. We ask this through our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen, Alleluia!
