He was an interesting man with a good sense of humor. For example, there’s one letter** he wrote where he said St. Wilgefortis would make the perfect patron for the modern feminist movement–a bearded lady who wants to get away from her husband --I admit, it made me chuckle.

(St. Wilgefortis was the daugher of a pagan man. She had secretly made a vow of virginity, but her father promised her to a man in marriage. She prayed to get out of it. Miraculously she grew a beard and the man no longer wanted to marry her. She was then martyred by her father.)

I don’t think he should be canonised. He opposed the church teaching on birth control.

“In 1968, as Bishop of Vittorio Veneto, he submitted a confidential report to his predecessor as Patriarch of Venice arguing that the recently developed contraceptive pill should be permitted by the church. The report was agreed to by fellow Veneto bishops and submitted to Paul VI.”

From Wikipedia, which cites “John Julius Norwich, The Popes, London, 2011 p. 445” as it’s source.

No. That isn’t how it works.

St Cyril “rebaptized” Christians who had apostatized, but he eventually submitted to Rome once it had authoritatively spoken.

Sounds like that was when opinions were being requested. Did he ever publicly oppose church teaching on the subject, once Pope Paul VI made his decision?

Then there’s no reason (on that subject, at least) to oppose the canonization process. All of his writings and statements will be thoroughly (and them some) examined.

He was such an extraordinary man…after all these years, I should be very glad indeed to see him beatified, while I am still in this life.
