I've discovered Adoration!

Hi everyone,
Recently I have been going to adoration on my way home from work.I sit and tell Our Lord all about my day and all the things I have done,good and bad, and ask Him to sort out all my problems.I am finding this very helpful in my life,I intend to carry on doing this as I find I can get real peace in the quiet of the Church after a noisy ,busy day.Aren’t we privileged to have such a wonderful gift as this?.Does anybody else feel the same as me?.

Pretty much! 😃 I love to go to Adoration after a busy day. It’s a real blessing to have some quiet time with the Lord. Even after an unpleasant day, it’s nice to sit or kneel before the Blessed Sacrament. Unfortuantely, our parish only has it on Tuesdays.

I discovered Adoration this past spring, and it IS awesome. It’s not often that I can get there with family responsibilities, but sometimes I can slip away. It is such a feeling of peace. Sometimes I go seeking an answer to something and sometimes I just go - maybe to listen. I often take my journal along with some meditations. I find that when I write, sometiems I am led to the answer that I am seeking. And sometimes not ;-). Nonetheless - another of our Catholic treasures (daily Mass being another well-kept secret). Priceless.
 
to english guy: i also have recently just discovered adoration.
it is so peaceful and healing. this morning i found a new church with a perpetual adoration and a beautiful prayer garden outside of the chapel for adorers only. i could have stayed all day, but, unfortunately, i had other things to take care of. i plan on returning to this adoration chapel several times a week if possible.
it is nice to take some religious literature or a Bible and do some reading after praying. deborah

Adoration is a great experience. Spending some quiet time with our Lord. I try to go to my church and sit down and spend 1 hour before God or more if I have enough time. “To visit the Blessed Sacrament is … a proof of greatitude, an expression of love, and a duty of adoration toward Christ our Lord” (Paul VI, MF 66). It is important for Catholics to spend time with our Lord and talk to him. It states in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “The church, the house of God, is the porper place for liturgical prayer of the parish community. It is also the privileged place for adoration of the real presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The choice of a favorable place is not a matter of indifference for true prayer.” (CCC 2691) We can pray to God at any place any time, it doesn’t have to be a church. But a church is a more solemn holy place where we can focus only on God and not on other material things.
 
Adoration is a most precious gift, It is also one that is underutilized my most Catholics. The following is a personal story about adoration.

Years ago, before I became a deacon in 1991, my wife (we are now married 43 years) and I had an argument. We were both really angry. We got in separate cars and drove off in different directions. I drove to a nearby church where there was perpetual adoration and when I walked in, I saw my wife already there, and silently knelled besides her. She had parked on the opposite side of the church. We both left together, went out for supper, and to this day, do not remember what we were fussing about.

Blessings to you for visiting Our Lord! I don’t get to go to the church after work because Mass is going on or the church is locked by the time I get off, BUT, I do go in the morning on my way to work, the BLessed Sacrament is not exposed, but I just sit in front of the Tabernacle and pray and just enjoy being in the company of Jesus in His HOuse. God BLess.

Good on you, Mick! Once I decided to spend some time with our Lord, things really opened up. I was drawn to intercessory prayer before our Lord, and have seen minor miracles of healing. When you enter into the silence, there is an awareness of being in His presence. At times, I cannot bring my self to look upon Him. Pondering his wounds and the fact that He did not spare himself even one lash of the whip brings tears. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It reveals other faith traditions as seemingly empty, devoid of the Lord’s presence.

Simply being in the presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament has brought many a heart to the faith.

Adoration crystallizes our faith into one, fundamental Question:

is that a piece of bread in the monstrance, or is it JESUS?

when our hearts really see Jesus Truly Present… everything changes…suddenly, meeting the Sunday Obligation seems to only be the bare minimum we can do to practice our faith… we find that we desire to wear different clothing to Mass/Adoration…our postures change…we show great reverence for the Blessed Sacrament…

and on and on…

rejoice in this great gift! And pray for the conversion of our brethren

This is the best kept secret of our faith. If only others were more aware of it and the benefits received. So much could change.

I’m so happy for you. This quiet time before the Lord is so important. Being quiet is important. Our world is so noisy these days that we can’t hear God when He speaks to us.

I’m in a very blessed position. I work as a secretary for my parish church, in a building that was the former convent. Right across the hall from my office is the chapel with the Blessed Sacrament. If I keep my office door open, I can see the tabernacle and the red sanctuary lamp. All day long I look up and smile and wave to Jesus. During my lunch hour I attend Mass in the same chapel, and then after work I go there and spend my quiet time alone with the Lord. It is so very quiet. Just me and Jesus. I wish everyone on earth could experience such joy.

I have been stoping by church on my way home from work for the last few years. I love. 5-10 minutes of quiet reflective prayer and reading the vocation prayer. Well on Friday I went to the diocese to talk to them about becoming a deacon ( as I have several priest who support me and my pastor encourged me two weeks ago to call the diocese).

Wonderful. I will pray for your acceptance and fulfillment of this call. You will find in your classmates, a group of most interesting, faith filled men. I can only describe it as a privilege being associated with them.
