I was just sitting here thinking about how I need to focus on my health, eating healthy foods, exercising, etc… and then clicked on your thread randomly.

Then as I sit reading your words and nodding along what am I doing? Eating chocolates.

Ugh. Well this is the last of them at least. My cousin got married last week and she handed them out as wedding favors. Is it worse to throw out the nice little treats or to be a big fat glutton?
Ann, you are way too hard on yourself. We all are when it comes to food. If you’ve had chocolate in the house since last week, you are definitely not a glutton. If you were, they’d have been gone by the time you got to the car. AND you’d have snatched them away from other people.

Man does not live by carrots alone. You get to have something good sometimes. For some people, a little chocolate may be the only fun they have.

My craving is ice cream. I tried have a small bowl, but my definition of small was skewed. I tried ice cream cones, but finally settled on fudgesicles. I get the Fit and Active ones at Aldi’s which are really good, and about half the cost of Weight Watchers or Skinny Cow. Aldi’s is a Saturday morning trip, not a quick stop on the way home from work, so I ration them. This works for me. Now if I could just figure out how to control my craving for baloney sammiches!

I forgot something: sleep. Sometimes when we over eat or eat the wrong things, we’re really tired. Maybe you should consider your sleep habits too. You may be trying to make up for a lack of energy by shovelling some more coal in the furnace.

Have you tried sipping green tea? Its yum and boots the metabolism. Plus, sometimes we are just thristy but our body reads it as hunger.

Anyways, GraceDK you go girl! On the horse, off the horse - either way your value is not tied up into how many cakes you nibbled.

:)B Vitamins Stress tabs are realy good and it helps with energy it turns food into energy, you might be missing some vitamins and need to feed your body with the energy to loose the calories faster. I take them and I don’t have as many craveings. They are reasonable at WallyWorld. Love of Christ Nancy:)

Dear friends.
I am sick and tired of myself. Sometimes I eat so much chocolate and cakes etc… that I end up feeling dizzy in the evening and restless and feel so tired of myself that I just want to pyke.
This has been going on for years. I have confessed it many times…
Perhaps you haven’t been saying quite the right words in your confessions. These words might possibly work better for you:
I HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY. I AM ALLERGIC TO ONE OR MORE FOODS AND/OR CHEMICAL ADDITIVES WHICH ARE CREATING HAVOC AND TOXICITY WITH MY BODY CHEMISTRY.
DEAR GOD, PLEASE HELP ME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY ARE SO THAT I MAY LEARN TO RECOGNIZE AND AVOID THEM IN MY LIFE AND THEREBY LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE ACCORDING TO YOUR WILL. THANKS BE TO GOD.

:)Good afternoon former Catholic, Welcome to CAF, and Thank you for your advise. That is found under Alcohol and drug addictions also. All addictions play havoc on your health or mind. We are told to be anxious over nothing but in all things prayer and supplication, knowing our Father knows what we want before we ask. You are Loved Nancy

There is certainly nothing pleasant or healthy about feeling enslaved by food. Reading your post made me wonder if you knew about or had considered the Light Weigh? I’ve been in my group since November and have benefited greatly from it, spiritually and physically. For me, it has helped especially to gain a healthy perspective on food–to not let it control me (either through enslavement to calorie counting, temptations, etc)–but to view all food as good and for my benefit/enjoyment, so long as I am obedient to God’s rules for eating.

You seemed to demonize cake in your last post. The more you give it “evil” qualities, the more power you give to something that is not meant to control you. You might consider giving yourself the freedom to have a small piece of cake (or any other food that seems to be a source of temptation) once a day to lessen the power you’ve attributed to it.

You also mentioned that you “have no sacrifice to pay that could loosen the chains of anyone.” I recommend the following article to more fully understand how our sacrifices can merit grace for our friends on earth (and in purgatory). Perhaps a deeper understanding of how redemptive suffering works will help you be more faithful to making sacrifices for others?

Hope this is of some help. 🙂

HI nicoleanne, Welcome to CAF I proberly should go to your site also, as i am a chocolate lover, But it does not rule me. 👍 You are Loved Nancy

Your way of life is unacceptable! :dts:
I will keep an eye on you 🤓
:pHello Amber2 God Bless You and you are Loved. Father watches everything, and see’s into the hearts of man. Father can see what you are going to do next week etc. He realy dosent need any help. Onions are unxcceptable to some people. What we need here is Faith to know you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Sometimes buddying up with a friend and calling when you feel the erge to eat that food that so easily besets you. We all need someone, we all have something we do, that is not good for either our body’s or souls. None is perfect, or we would be able to cast the first stone, and none can. You are loved Nancy:)

Dear Grace, you are taking this a whole lot better than I could ever…Now with all the stress in my life, the need to consume comfort food-CAKES especially- makes me crave them more and more…I all ready have problems losing weight and getting the help for it-still not losing weight gained 3.5 lbs in 2 weeks…But anyhow, the more you think about how you will feel after you eat the cakes and sweets the easier it gets to reject them… I could eat cake all day! And ice cream and cookies and soda pop, yummy! Getting hungry here… BUT every time I do I feel sick, want to throw up and it helps me remember how I felt when I did all that and I won’t eat them that much…

The other day I bought 3 bags of candies, chocolate, skittles, etc… I got through 1/4 of the skittles and 1/2 of the chocolate after all that I couldn’t see a single bag of candy… It’s been a week since I had candy and it feels good…I just need to learn to have one or two pieces of candy and that’s it…Still learning…

So hang in there, try and have a piece, but stop before you start feeling sick…

God bless and good luck!

Man lives to imitate Christ. This I shall strive to do.

Send me your cakes 😃

:)Dear Bryan, Father see’s your heart and knows your every move, Your cake is waiting for you, come home! You are loved! Love of Christ Nancy;)

You may be lacking in some vitamins and minerals. You may also be suffering from yeast infections in your digestive system. I would suggest contacting your doctor and getting a thorough physical and blood work. It may also be that you have a food allergy. Being in bondage to cravings for food can be very disheartening. God bless you.

:)HI ML561, Welcome to CAF you sound like you know what your talking about, i also agree with you. The body will do strange things to us when it needs something. It can affect us physiological, and phycological. it will get you comming and going. A blood test is a good way to start. And taking vitimin B stress is realy good.Seeing a good doctor is better then to self medicate all in all. Love of Chrsit Nancy:thumbsup:

Dear friends.
I am sick and tired of myself. Sometimes I eat so much chocolate and cakes etc… that I end up feeling dizzy in the evening and restless and feel so tired of myself that I just want to pyke.
This has been going on for years. I have confessed it many times… recently I lived as a normal human being without all the cakes for one month…A cold tyrkey… no cakes etc… I have given up coke all together and am hapy about that… but the cakes… they came back, I have no idea why… I was so happy without them and found out that I dont need them… but now again I feel the cakes are eating me almost.
Now I am accountable to you! for the next few days… I know I can do it, so why aren’t I doing it…

😊
GraceDK,

Could it be that there may be some psychological issue underneath all this?

Emotions precede a behavior, so it’s likely that a sharp emotion is controlling you. Perhaps you are subconsciously lacking something and trying to fill that void by eating cakes. This may be linked to something in your past, probably childhood (just my guess).

Please do this if you’re interested, but go through it slowly. If I were on the phone, I would guide you through this, but this is the best I can do since it’s a forum:

You said, “I feel the cakes are eating me”. What thought or feeling comes to mind as you think ‘cakes are eating me’? Also, is there some sort of physical sensation in your body somewhere (like a tightness in your chest or heart, or anywhere else)? You’ll probably be surprised to see that an emotion usually has a location in one’s body. Anyway, think about whatever thought or feeling comes to mind, and go with your first thought or guess.

Then think about these questions: Is this particular feeling coming from wanting approval? wanting security? or wanting control? (if it’s more than one, just pick one)

In other words, does the feeling trigger one of those wants that I just mentioned?

If so, then could you give that want to God?

If you said ‘yes’ to it, imagine literally delivering it to Him (you can close your eyes and do this), and notice how you feel afterwards. Be sure to take all the time you need. I also encourage you to read Philippians 4:6-7 upon doing this.

If you said ‘no’, then think about this next question: What more important thing do you gain by not giving that want to God?

Note - this is a hidden and secondary gain. For example, it’s like a smoker who says he wants to quit, but in his heart he really doesn’t want to because it gives him an important feeling that he does not want to part with.

When you have your answer about the more important thing, could you give that to God?

If so, when you totally offer up the feeling to God, notice how you feel about eating cakes. You may notice a subtle or substantial difference. Either way, when you give it to Him, you will feel free. If you are still stuck, then either give the stuckness to God, or dig deeper until you find whatever it is that is causing you to not be able to give it to God. Ultimately, you will notice that you are probably subconsciously hanging onto something that is very important to you but likely harmful for your life.

I think St. Paul’s words are particularly relevant here:

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2)

So think of this not as “I can’t stop eating cakes and chocolate”. Think of it as God is providing you an opportunity to let go of these hidden psychological issues which are affecting your diet, your weight, and your spiritual life. Dig inside, find it and offer it up to God, regardless of however long it may take. It may be easy or tough, but in the end you’ll be happy you did it 🙂

Dear Jason.
Thanks for your compassionate post.
Jesus is already helping me… He is behind everything good there ever was in this world or in any individual 🙂 I am doing pretty good, although I did fall back since this thread started.
I think I eat bad for of three reasons: boredom, hunger and lazi(y?)ness.
I’d like to be someone who sacrificed for God… but I dont think I have ever actually endured in a trial that mattered. When I fasted I did it so that I could get closer to God… selfish motive. Many things I have done… but because I wanted to do them, because I saw them as part of my Christian identity.
My selfless love is lacking. Thank God He is shielding me from most temptations.

All glory and honour to Him forever.

I wish I would have read this about an hour ago. Today is the monthly Birthday Cake Day here at work, and I got me a small piece of white and a small piece of chocolate cake. I did tell myself, however, that they would be the last pieces I get until I can start eating better. I eat so many bad foods!

I know myself and cannot go cold turkey or completely eliminate sugar from my diet. When I was successful on Weight Watchers, I planned something sweet every day. I couldn’t believe how that satisfied my craving. I need to get back to that. That was also when I was doing yoga (gasp! - I did it only for the exercise and stress relief - the breathing is wonderful!). It gave me a lot of will power!
