i just feel all hope is gone…21 and my life seems like its going nowhere despite my best efforts…it feels like the only thing to live for is to get drunk and high and look at porn…as sad as that seems thats how i feel right now… the world is too shallow.
 
My only advice would be to give up those vices and focus on what you can do to make others happy. You are in my prayers

This is a fight that only you can fight, and one that only you can win.

I will let you in on a secret - life’s purpose is not something you “discover” (or not) - your purpose is to know God, to love God, to do God’s work in this life, and to be happy with Him in Heaven forever in the next.

No one gets an easy ride in this life. It’s difficult for everyone, in one way or another. Even the very rich have their troubles. The key is to meet them one at a time, and one day at a time. Do your best each day with the work that comes to you to be done, and let God take care of the rest.

The world is not too shallow; but alcohol, drugs, and porn certainly are. They make you skim and forget. Find the real world. Look deep. Study. Pray. Enjoy the earth. True love is deep. Sex in a marriage with love is real. Children. Friends. Family. Meaningful work and play. Kindness.

Wake up and turn away from illusions. Get humble and real and learn what deep feelings really are. Manage the anxiety and depression. Let go of the false facades. Good luck. I hope you find true faith, true love, and true friends.

If the only thing you you feel like living for is your own sensory experiences (getting drunk, high, looking at porn), then of course the world seems shallow to you. Shallow people don’t tend to see too deeply into things. Sure, you can try to convince yourself that you are the way you are because you’ve given up. The problem with that way of thinking is that it was your own shallowness that passed judgement on the world, because you were simply looking at it through your own shallow tinted glasses.

I only state this so frankly in hopes that it will drive this point home: change in the world begins with you. You are the one that sets things right. You are the one to make the world a better place. You are the one who can make a difference. Your journey, your destiny, starts with you. Once you have prepared (repaired) yourself and begun your journey, you’ll find all the others that have begun their journey as well. You’ll find that it’s not a lonely journey at all. Then you’ll see that the world isn’t shallow at all, only your past was.

its just hard to accept everything around me right now…i have a lot of passions like to find a girl and get a job but they seem lightyears away and can only sit here up sh*t creek without a paddle while the world goes by.
 
Hang in there. You are at a very difficult time of your life - full of uncertainty and expectation. I was in a very similar situation as you, and although giving up those vices were (and are) quite a battle, light starts to shine through. Keep searching for God through study, prayer, and using your will; and most importantly take one day at a time and try not to beat yourself up. I will be praying for you!
 
Praying for you bud. I’m in a similar situation as you, not the parts about drugs and porn but being a young man who is going nowhere at least not anytime soon.
 
It isn’t the world that is shallow, it is you. The world is not the problem you are. You are what is wrong with the world.

Why don’t you get your act together and start by trying to be good and do something productive today? Just a little. Then make it a habit. Once you do that you can start living the way God intended and you will find it is better.

If you’re waiting for something to land in your lap, that’s not going to happen.

You have to get up early in the morning, and walk from place to place, and talk to people all day long, until you meet the people who are going to help you. They aren’t going to come to you - you have to go to them.

Maybe you should go back and read your old threads. It is 2 years later from some of them and you don’t appear to have matured very much.

Time to grow up and take charge of your life. Don’t blame other people or God this time. Your life is your own doing.

Well if that’s your world, I could see it being incredibly shallow. Getting drunk, smoking, and watching porn feels great and seems to bring you fulfilment… until it’s over. It’s precisely at that moment when you realize that none of it truely has any sort of lasting benefit, utility, or meaning to your life.

Instead, here is my suggestion:

St. Bonaventure had the interesting idea that one only comes to know God better by orienting thier lives towards Him. Give it a shot and see if it brings meaning to your life. 🤷

You won’t find meaning or purpose in life while you are a) drunk, b) high, or c) looking at porn.

You also won’t find a nice girl or a good job while doing them.

Alert - brief lecture coming: The *more *you look at porn the *less likely *you will be to find the girl of your dreams, becuase you are gradually training yourself to see women merely as objects of your own lust, not persons with dignity, and many women see that as plain as day. Stop looking at porn now and learn to treat women with respect, for the sake of your future self (and future spouse).
