I've never bought a rosary before: have you?

I’ve bought only a few in my lifetime, some of which I’ve given to friends and family. Most have been given to me. I have a few ones special to me, others I keep and am happy to give away if someone needs it.

The finger rosary I purchased became part of an interesting story. I purchased it because of the numerous rosaries that had broken in my pocket. One day upon visiting the local Dominican monestary I went to grab it out of my pocket to pray with it to find it had broken (how I have no idea). I proceeded to pray my rosary with my fingers. Upon leaving the monestery chapel a rosary was hanging on the stairway railing. It was not there when I entered. I took it to mean it was meant to replace my other one. This one was aestheticly nothing special, one of those plastic ones given away for free in churches. Because of this story it was very close to my heart and i kept it hanging in my car when not using it. In October of 2018 I received a call that a good friend of mine was unresponsive in critical condition following a suicide attempt. When I went to visit her, the only thing I could think to give to her was this rosary. Sadly, after two weeks on life support, my friend passed away. My simple little plastic rosary was on her person when she passed and was one of the things placed with her in the casket. I still miss that little plastic rosary hanging in my vehicle, but I’m glad that my friend had it in her final moments and has it, mortally, for eternity.

I actually buy them all the time. But I work at a Catholic store. So I buy them to sell.

I’ve also bought some to give as gifts.

Looking at the ones that I have, I have never purchased one for myself. Mine have all been gifts or been handed down from family.

Bought one for my mother. It was blessed by the Pope.

Never bought one for myself, though.

I was given a rosary by the local pro-life people at the abortion facility and they refused to allow me to reimburse them for it.

I have bought only 3 rosaries in my life. When I came back to the the Church a decade ago I went out and got an inexpensive one to get back into prayer. I bought one when I worked in the parish gift shop and I bought on from Real Men Pray the Rosary.

My favorite rosary is one my daughter (a jeweler) made me from 8mm hemetite beads. The problem with it (why I almost never use it) is that the beads are magnetized and the whole thing clumps togeather when I use it. If I can ever get it demagnetized, it will become the rosary I carry with me all the time

I have one of those with the Knights of Columbus logo as the centerpiece from Rugged Rosaries. They are really good rosaries. I’ve had no luck with chain link rosaries (they invariably come apart on me), my two favorite rosaries are this one and a cord rosary with jade beads that I picked up as a SCRC convention.

Just thought about this first time.
I have never bought a rosary.
They’ve been given to me by various people.
I also “steal” them from the adoration chapel. (they are left behind)

I’ve seen the KoC rosary and it looks great! Going to have to wait until I become a Knight to buy one however.

I have quite a lot of rosaries but they were either given to me by my mum, handed to my mum from our old priest and then handed to me (big ones) or gifts from confirmation etc.

I have never bought one but would like a purple one (would be good for Lent). My favourite one was a red one but I lost the Crucifix from it.

How about you?
I have purchased 2 of my Rosaries and received 4 for free. (I’m not counting the free Rosaries that cost under a dollar)

Thanks for introducing me to Roman Catholic Gear. My Brother in-law is an ex Marine reservist, converted to the Catholic Church. I think I’ll buy him one of the Rosaries from the site as a gift. I’ve bought my nephews tons of gifts, of but I’ve never bought him a Gift. So, I’ll do that this month and give it to him.

Well buy one if you want to, you can never have to many 😉 Plus you can, if you like, pass on one or two of your old one’s to a close friend or family member that is Catholic and that would appreciate it, that is if you don’t want a bunch of them. You should get a replacement crucifix for your favorite red rosary. If you can’t repair it yourself I’m sure a jewelry shop could install it for you. 😉

To answer your question though, I have bought them for other people but never one for myself. I am not against buying ones own Rosary, just never needed too. I have two of my Grandpa’s Rosary. One is the one he always used to pray with and the other is from his funeral. I have a couple of my Grandmother’s rosary. One is a cool green one from Ireland. Have one from when I was incarcerated and 7 sorrows rosary another inmate made for me. 🙏
