I've never heard a good answer from non-Catholic Christians re: Matt. 18:15-17

You’re not suggesting relativism here are you AT? 🙂
no. i’m just saying that if you have an unresolved issue with a fellow member, then you take it to the congregation where you both attend. right?

if you are roman catholics then go to a roman catholic church.
if you are orthodox then go to an orthodox church.
if you are evangelical then go your evangelical church.

exactly. every religion out there is nothing but opinion. whether its catholicism, islam, buddhism, protestantism, whatever.

the only explanation to that verse can only be relativistic. you go to whatever congregation you belong to.

yeah like the wisdom of the ages which says that the earth is flat. 😃
The wisdom of the ages says the earth is flat? Your definition of the ages is very selective.

Is agnostic opinion?

What Church do we take it to? A Southern Baptist church? A Lutheran church? An Episcopal church? Methodist church, etc., etc., etc…? Don’t we take it to the Church Jesus Christ established where Doctrines matter and do not conflict with other doctrines? Here is a scenario I’ve seen before and couldn’t be answered. Maybe someone can help me with this:
Take a look at this article to see if it helps.

It sounds to me that you are taking this passage and focusing on the word “church” as only a building. I think when Jesus spoke about “church” he was refering to the, Community of His Believers, and not a specific building. Chapter 18 as a whole focuses more on Reconciliation than anything else.
Well, how do I take it to this “community of believers” to get the truth about infant baptism?

every church is man made, even the catholic church. there is just zero evidence that any of them has a divine connection.

This thread is not really about an explanation for that verse. But a discussion on ‘Which is the true Church’. Please, that topic had been beaten to death a million times over.
No… AgnosTheist… The Church is not man made… Jesus established his Church here on earth. The Catholic Church can show by it’s history and writings a direct link back to the apostles. What more evidence would you want?

You are correct, that is what today’s Christian would do.

The question OP is posing is to which church the passage in the Bible is referring.

And if you are sick of hearing that the CC is the True Church, why do you keep coming back?

Secretly, deep down you can’t stop yourself. You like it. The Holy Spirit is calling you…😉

That would be true if Christ meant us to have multiple churches. But since He said there would be one, you know they all can’t be what He meant. 🙂

Jesus died before establishing a church. Rather historians credit much of the work on Paul, and by Paul’s opinion he was pretty much against the idea of christians saying “i follow this guy, i follow that guy”. Of which both catholics and protestants are guilty of. You are all just followers of jesus.

Strenght in diversity. Thats what nature is all about.

Actually, Jesus did say, You are Peter and upon this Rock I will build my Church, then He gave him the keys. Peter’s name was Simon, and Jesus changed it to Rock. (living in Canada, you must know the French name for Peter is Pierre).

Paul’s opinion’s about following different guys, were about heretics spreading a false gospel.

Lampo;
I think Jesus meant as for our time, for you to take it to your priest with your child and invite the friend that is misleading your child. and sit down and charitably explain and your child will see and hear from the priest and confirm the truth as our Faith teaches
and is in the catechism. If the person doesn’t come then there’s your answer.
If I am understanding your problem I hope.

that doesnt mean that church membership is limited to those of whom peter have blessed. paul, what many historians say had founded christianity, became an apostle without the help of peter.
Paul’s opinion’s about following different guys, were about heretics spreading a false gospel.
lets see the passage…

That Paul spread the word does not negate the primacy of Peter. Acts clearly shows Peter as the leader. It is always whenever he speaks, the all stop and listen. He formulated the first Doctrines, no circumcision or Jewish dietary laws.
lets see the passage…
Well, I’m sick of verse slinging, but I’ll look for it tomorrow. I’m going home.

There are many communities of believers. That is why there are so many different demoninations out there. What is the number now 40 thousand, and they all claim to be the true church. That’s why there are so many opinions on Baptism. To find out what is the true church, all you have to do is look hard and you will find it. It is the Church that has stood up to every single advesary to this very day. Evil comes in many forms to attack its walls and the walls are still standing. These are the walls of the Catholic Church.

Don’t get me wrong other churches have truth, but the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth.

You are understanding the problem, but it is just a hypothetical. I am just interested in which Church non-Catholic Christians believe is being referred to in this passage.

What if this issue is between a Lutheran, which teaches infant baptism and a Southern Baptist(teaches believer’s baptism only.)? Which Church?

the passage was about personal grievances, not doctrines.
