So, I just, in great detail, explained to my wife why I no longer consider myself a RC and why I have left the Church. She totally understood and supports my decision.

I feel great, like the chains of bondage have been removed. The RCC is a fine institution and if some people can find God within that particular Church, then it is a very good thing.

The Church was holding me back, for years, this is an exciting time. I no longer have the distraction of the all the Catholic requirements that are necessary for any hope of my salvation. Those distractions also prevented me from forming any relationship with God.

When someone asks, ’ are you a Catholic’, I will respond, nope I am a Christian! 👍

Yep. Now you can just be 100% sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I’m glad you’re at peace with your decision. May God have mercy on you.

I regret that you did not find the joy, peace and richness of what the Church really is and that you only saw the burdens. I only ask that the Holy Spirit guide you and your wife in your journey, that the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and truth and God’s loving will and wishes prevail in your lives and family.

God be with you with His love and blessing and lead you to the fullnes of truth in time.
Best wishes, Trishie

I find it interesting that you “feel like the chains of bondage have been removed.”

Atheist on this thread have made essentially the same statement concerning their feelings when they left the bondage of belief in God.

My only advice to you is this: Be extremely careful about following “feelings.” Feelings can easily deceive us. Remember the words of Jesus. In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus says:

“Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

Likewise, Paul makes this statement:

2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.

It is clear that you are searching. May the Holy Spirit lead you, and may your love of God grow in every way. We are all on a journey. I will pray for you in your walk. I hope that you will pray for me as well.

Let me make this really clear. You have NOT officially left the Catholic Church until you write and submit a letter to your Ordinary…your bishop explaining why you reject the teachings of the Church. You must make this very clear and sign it and actually submit it. But I didn’t do it and now I’m back…Thank God I didn’t do that.

As far as breaking the chains…you have just wrapped them around your neck. You wife obviously doesn’t understand either. I knew what I was doing was a chance. My story is long a full of pain, which is why I fell prey to the sin of pride in leaving…sort of a self-defense mechanism in my life. I grew up in a mixed religious home with divorced parents. I still believe that I knew the teachings of the Church but I was brainwashed into believing solo scripture from the woman that actually raised me…Mom and then step mom. Dad was a lost Catholic too… I learned more about scripture at an early age… which is what brought me back home ultimately…not the “crazy” beliefs we have. Thos make sense when you take scripture in its original context.

You must have had a problem with sin or something in your life that you didn’t understand. You are not free. And do you practice a Protestant faith now? Just the words you chose to express yourself sound Catholic…most Catholic do not know the teachings of the faith and why… You obviously do not… Now I realize that you will most likely argue that you do know and just will deny them as truth. That is on your head and I will pray for you…you will need it. I left as an adult at the age of 28 and returned 17 years later. I’ve been home for almost 2 years now… I really wanted to be Orthodox once I realized that the church was truly one holy catholic and apostolic. It’s historical fact…that protestants have to twist to fit their model. I am praying for you, your wife and your family…

Pax tecum

Habemus Papam!! We have another Pope! Enjoy!! You now have great freedom! Awesome! But to whom much has been given, much is required. Aw screw it… you probably won’t mess it up. Have fun with your religion tho…

Maybe we should make him a miter?😉

I knew that was going to come.

I don’t subscribe to those rules any longer. I respect Catholicism, but for me, it is hollow, restrictive and contains too many distractions.

So no, I no longer subscribe to the beliefs of Catholicism, including having to continue to meet the imposed requirements of an institution, by writing a letter to a man employed as a Bishop of the RCC.

Seriously, I really have left…letter or no letter…it matters not and God doesn’t care if I write a letter to a Bishop. If God did care, wow, talk about a legalistic Deity.

I wish you luck in finding your research into the bible.

I have thought of joining the Catholic Church, but some things just don’t click with me.

Well, of course I would like to see you remain in the Church. Perhaps being away from the Church though, you will find what you are looking for and eventually return. Sincerely seek the truth always. Pax et bonum.

That is why I’ve left…I’m being honest with myself. I know that there are a lot of Catholics who just go through the motions and show up twice a year…but that’s not me.

I actually want a relationship with Christ…

Never even been to a mass, not allowed to either.

Avoiding the Church which houses His Body and Blood is an interesting way to do it. Generally, going to him and adoring him would seem like the right approach.

Hopefully, God’s grace will bring you back to the Church of Christ, and you won’t be damned. You will be in my prayers - that’s a sincere promise.

I don’t believe in the real presence…not even a bit…just admitted that to myself about a month ago.

Although, as a Protestant, I agree with your decision to not be affiliated with the Roman communion; I must ask why you felt the need to post that decision here? It seems to be of a personal nature and all you are doing is exposing that decision to the harshest ridicule this forum can muster.

As brotherly advice, make sure that you submit to Christ in humility and not carry a chip on your shoulder about this decision 🙂

*“Many therefore of his disciples, hearing it, said: This saying is hard, and who can hear it? But Jesus, knowing in himself, that his disciples murmured at this, said to them: Doth this scandalize you? If then you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have spoken to you, are spirit and life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning, who they were that did not believe, and who he was, that would betray him. And he said: Therefore did I say to you, that no man can come to me, unless it be given him by my Father. After this many of his disciples went back; and walked no more with him. Then Jesus said to the twelve: **Will you also go away?****And Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. ***And we have believed and have known, that thou art the Christ, the Son of God.” - John 6, 61-70

Out of curiousity, have you read what the Early Church Fathers had to say about this, since this is the one topic that they were most in agreement with?
