We agree to disagree…your opinion is tantamount to someone complaining about an offensive radio program…just turn the channel and tune out if you don’t like what your hearing.

If you think it’s in bad taste, I’m politely saying, too bad.
LOL… I’m sorry. I can see now that you were never sincere about what the Church actually taight. You are all about YOU. What makes YOU feel good. What YOU want. What YOU expect from God. You never stood a chance… still you are in my prayers. God bless and may He have mercy on your eternal soul.

Child,

What is truly rude is you coming to a Catholic forum with a signature which suggests that Catholics are something other than Christian. We are, in fact, the first Christians, while the baptists you are defending didn’t show up on scene until 1609 when John Smyth decided that he knew better than God what a Church should be. So, he started his own… the baptist church. From there, little “mini-me” wannabies sub divided the baptist church even further into things like the free-will baptists, southern baptists, american baptists, etc, etc. It’s actually almost comical in a sad sort of way.
So, its rude to let people know I am not a Catholic? If so, then I am very rude…

wannabies? haha, and I am the rude one here?

I think what was perceived as rude was stating that Catholics aren’t Christian. We are, and have always been.

I’m sorry someone was rude to you, but you seem to have missed their point.

I never said that, if someone assumes thats what I am saying, I can’t help that 🤷 .

Why on the members list does everyone put religion as Catholic? I mean, if needed, wouldn’t that need to be Religion/Denomination?

Catholic doctrine of salvation
By grace alone. This is a problem? Why?
Confession ( caused me horrible stress and anxiety…you have no idea and I no longer believe it is even necessary)
Whose fault is that? (You have a choice of how to respond to things. It’s called “self control” and it’s a gift from God. You can choose to not be stressed out - it’s just Confession.)
Marriage only within the Church
How is this an issue for you? You are married already.
Weekly Mass or mortal sin
45 minutes out of your week to give to God. Protestant churches actually demand a lot more than that - be prepared for two hours on Sundays plus Wednesday night Bible study at your Protestant church.
Two days a year - where “fasting” is two meatless meals, plus all the juice and water you can drink.
Mass on special occasions
Five times a year, and that’s only if your Bishop hasn’t commuted it to Sunday.
Infallibility of the Church faith and morals
As opposed to yourself? Or what?
Papal infallibility
Under very particular circumstances.
Indulgences
Getting to Heaven faster is a problem? 🤷
Praying to the Saints
Praying to Mary
Friends in high places. What’s wrong with that?
Belief in the doctrine surrounding Mary ( especially assumption)
The doctrines about Mary point us to Christ, and identify who Christ is. “Mother of God” teaches us that Jesus is God. The Assumption teaches us that Jesus is King of Heaven and earth. The virgin birth and perpetual virginity of Mary (archetype of the purity of the Ark of the Covenant) teach us that Jesus is the Manna and the Law - the Word of God.
Belief that the institution of the RCC is a requirement of salvation.
This is Scriptural - “He who hears you, hears Me.”
Belief that salvation was intended to be institutionalized
Family is institutionalized, education is institutionalized, government is institutionalized - everything important is institutionalized. We institutionalize them so that we have procedures in place to not screw things up with regard to these things.

Why not institutionalize salvation, since it is the most important thing - the one thing that you had better not screw up?
All the statues everywhere
Medallions, Saint Statues etc…
Aids to prayer.
It just seems so loud to me…I can’t focus on Christ.
Christ is in all of these things. They are His way of speaking to us.

hey, whats indulgences, I mean inside the Catholic Church, what is it?

If we look at 2 Cor 5:17-20 we find St. Paul explaining how the Apostles are ambassadors of Christ’s work of reconciliation (do you recognize the word reconciliation?). .
I could refute all of your arguments that you believe prove that confession to an ordained priest is necessary to receive Gods forgiveness, but I will only comment on 2 Cor 5 17:20, as this passage was instrumental in leading me away from the Church.

And all this is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and given us the ministry of reconciliation,
namely, God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting their trespasses against them and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
So we are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

I was shocked to discover that the mighty RCC actually had this in their catechism as evidence that the ministry of reconciliation as we know it today, was given to them by Christ Jesus.

This passage is only talking about the spreading of the gospels and has absolutely nothing to do with reconcilation. Please read carefully my bolded parts, please notice that this is about the apostles spreading the MESSAGE of reconciliation…which is God has RECONCILED the world to himself through Christ. It finishes off with a plea, be RECONCILED to God.

The ministry of reconciliation, clearly, clearly even to a layman, is about spreading the good news and is not about auricular confession to an ordained priest.

When I saw the RCC prop this scripture up as justification…I couldn’t believe it…the problem is, as Catholics, you aren’t allowed to interpret scripture, even when it clearly states the opposite of what the Church teaches.

Catholicism isn’t a denomination. The denominations are the break-away religions that were formed by ex-Catholics who left the Catholic Church, or who were excommunicated for various reasons.

Catholicism and Christianity are the same thing - the religion that was started by Jesus.

Non-catholic Christians pick and choose from among the teachings of the Catholic Church, accepting some (for example, the Trinity) and rejecting others (such as the virgin motherhood of Mary) and form distinctly separate religions.

By religions do you mean faiths separate from Christianity, like Islam or Buddhism, or a part of Christianity?

Why does everyone think that I know nothing?
Because you’re leaving the Church that Christ founded upon His Truth, to seek out a man-made organization formed more than 1500 years later, that makes it up as they go along? 😉

So actually, placing Scripture before the Church puts you in a bit of danger… **
actually your misperceptions put you in danger…Im just fine thanks. And I am not sending anyone to hell…I thought your church taught not to say that?
Why are you avoiding the question?

I don’t believe subscribing to an institution is necessary to have a relationship with God.

If the RCC brings you to God, wonderful, but it does not bring me anything but anxiety and emptiness.

That prayers cannot be answered.God cannot support a lie…you all dont see…there is ONE church, and its called Christianity. You seek to break that body by your church’s assertions.
Rev John… If what you say is in fact true, then Jesus Christ left us without a Church for over 1500 years. With all due respect, you are either a liar or mistaken. For the sake of charity, I’ll assume the later. God bless.

hey, whats indulgences, I mean inside the Catholic Church, what is it?
It is the remission of the temporal consequences of sin. A brilliant analogy I read yesterday on this site - apologies to the original author for forgetting his/her name -

I break your Mom’s favourite vase.

I beg your forgiveness.

You forgive me (eternal consequence is covered), but you want a new vase for your Mom (temporal consequence is not covered).

I can’t afford a new vase for your Mom. (I need an Indulgence.)

I have a friend named Jesus who has a vase exactly like the one I broke, of your Mom’s. He will give it to me in exchange for a small favour that is easy for me to do. (I receive an Indulgence.)

I give you the new vase for your Mom, and we are now friends again. 🙂

Where the vase is one of the Commandments of God, where you are God the Father, and where the small favour I do for Jesus is to say one of the prayers or do one of the spiritual deeds that are listed in the Handbook of Indulgences.

Does that help at all, or have I confused the issue?

Let me know if your prayer works for you.
thecoach,

Forgive me, I cannot call you rev John, since you seem so full of hate and bent toward attacking a poster who prays (whether that prayer be publicly on these forums or otherwise). You are coming off as being rather angry toward those who might offer up prayer. Perhaps thecoach, you should step back and re-evaluate your position on charity and humility. God bless and God’s mercy my brother.

I am referring to movements like Lutheranism, Calvinism, Mennonism, Adventism, non-denominationalism, Mormonism, and the like - broad philosophies (religions) that encompass a number of like-minded churches.

If he was every baptised…and if he fulfills Pauls’s stated requirements for salvation, then YES. His excommunication is only from a body with no real authority, so its effect on his soul is nill. It is Chrisy alone that saves. We are baptized in the Body of Christ, not into the magesterium.
What?! This entire post makes no sense. Try again. Who in God’s name is Chrisy?
