To be fair Van Impe lost a lot more of his Protestant base than he gained in Catholic viewers when he started speaking positively about the Catholic Church.
I wouldn’t know about that. I wasn’t aware these TV fellows made the support census available for public scrutiny, (in fact I didn’t know they even asked faith background when a hapless supporter called the phone bank) but I would love to see some figures on all these guys.

😃 Very true! Well – at least we know where some of the donations from viewers are going to: Rexella’s plastic surgeries to acquire that look of agelessness. 😛
WHAT! PLASTIC SURGERIES!!! I refuse to believe it. Why the next thing you’ll be saying she bleaches her hair and that her Doctorate is somehow flawed. You are very mean.

Right. And no Catholics ever get plastic surgery or dye their hair.

Regardless of their theology or their appearance, their attitude about others who disagree with them seems to be more Christ-like than the attitude I’m seeing in this thread.

What do you all think of Jack Van Impe’s
He doesn’t Catholic bash, so he’s ok by me.
Biblical Prophesy interpretation?
Anyone who keeps calling for the end of the world or even a rapture will eventually be right. The thing that gets me though is most of these guys seem to be lone wolfing it.

First of all, you need to look out in the shed for your sensayuma, if you have one. Secondly, Jack Van Impe holds (at least as he propounds on television) to heretical beliefs and preaches same - that’s a fact - “the rapture” is heresy, sorry if it’s mean to say that! Third, Jack Van Impe preached anti-Catholicism for years, he was not rehabilitated, he preaches to the audience which gives him donations (check out his website). Fourth, your “let’s bear with whatever anybody says and does with love, joy and no criticism” is substantively flawed. But this is all just my opinion, except for the facts. I have nothing against Jack, I enjoy watching his act, it’s fun. The more quickly you realize it’s an act the better off you will be.

And yes, garysibio, a lot of Catholics get plastic surgery and dye their hair and I’ll go you one more, Dr. Rexella Van Impe has remarkably maintained a youthful appearance and I salute her for it. Further, I think her “straight man” act to Jack is hillarious. What do you find hillarious?

Right now, you. Don’t bother responding. Life is too short to deal with people like you. I’m adding you to my ignore list. :D:D:D:D:D

Hi garysibio,

I don’t know of a single Catholic who has their own TV show and supports their lavish lifestyle by promoting heretical and dangerous false teachings. They take money from others by fear mongering (for that is what the false teaching of a rapture does: instill fear for gullible people) and then use it for vanity. If Rexella was working an honest job as millions of other poor hardworking folks do (say at Walmart) and wanted a facelift – then by all means go for it. But the money they have for their wealthy lifestyle comes from other hard working folks.

JVI may “know” bible quotes, but memorizing the verses and understanding the meaning of those verses are two entirely different things.

A little toddler just learning to recite the ABC’s can memorize them, but ask them the meaning of those letters and their importance, and that child won’t know.

There are many deep truths that are found in the Scriptures and the Church - the magesterium - is the one who can teach the truth of doctrines.

Even St. Peter warned:

2 Peter 3:16 NRSA
speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

2 Peter 2:1 NRSA
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive opinions.

And this is where we find truth

1 Timothy 3:15 NRSA
if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.

God bless,

I haven’t seen JVI in a long time but he used to have an announcer with an absolutely great voice, doing all the promos for his videos and stuff. He sounded like the late movie trailer guy. It made me want to buy the videos about the Rapture and the Antichrist and stuff. This was maybe in the mid 90s.
:yup: His name’s Chuck Ohman! At one time, he was a music director at the Baptist church I attended before converting to Catholicism (and in fact, several of his family members, as well as those of Dr. Van Impe, are also associated with that church). He’s a fantastic guy, and plays a mean trumpet, too 👍

Cool! I used to think they just hired some guy to do the voiceovers, but then every once in a while he would show up on camera with Jack and Rexella, and you could see he was there live, with that voice. Too bad they didn’t have him play trumpet on air too. JVI was all on top of the prophesies from Revelation; I’m sure he could have added some sound effects for the angels with their trumpets.

Now that you mention that, I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure I saw him play it once on the show back in the days when I was eagerly anticipating Jack’s show. To me JVI came across as a sincere guy who truly loves God.

👍 My wife and I were well acquainted with Chuck, and his daughter was in the choir with us as well. I can assure you, he’s as real as it gets. Oh, and we frequently sat behind Rexella’s mom during service :yup:

Yeah, I think he used to do little impromptu performances on the show. And it’s true - JVI, Rexella, Chuck, and their families are wonderful people - desperately wrong about Bible prophecy, but kind, devout, sincere Christians nonetheless.

Liza,

You might actually try reading what I write before you respond.
Well, clearly I read your post, I quoted from it didn’t I?
I never complimented Van Impe on his beliefs which I also reject. I was talking about his integrity which was being attacked by another forum member.
The man is leading souls away from the fullness of Truth. He has no integrity.
I was listening to a podcast of one of Fr Mitch Pacwa’s radio programs and he also had nice things to say about Van Impe, especially his knowledge of the Bible.
If JVI had a truly solid knowledge of the Bible, and Christian history, he would be Catholic. Instead he has a distorted understanding of the Bible (hence is whacked out Rapture nonsense).

The man is not someone to commend - he is certainly someone to pray for, as well as all those souls he leads astray.

This is no more evident than in reading the Book of Revelation via the latest headlines.
Being a former “Bible Only” Christian I like to refer to it as newspaper exegesis. 🤷
But you gotta admit he plays a mean accorgan :aok:

Think about what you are saying. JVI believes he is telling the truth. He’s not being a fraud. Yes, he’s wrong but he’s not a con artist.

NO, he’s not a fraud. He’s one of very few Protestant Ministers around today who actually stands by the Catholic Churches teaching, and those of you who say you’re Catholic shouldn’t be shooting him down for doing so (because there are many of us who still have issues with teachings that are not found in the original ‘Hebrew texts’ when it comes to Catholicism), while Jack continues to defend your faith. I don’t know anything about a lavish lifestyle, as Jack takes what he receives and puts it back into his ministry to continue to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom.****

Mr. Van Impe does not stand by the Catholic Magisterial teaching. Doctrines and Dogmas of the Blessed Virgin, the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, or the necessity of obedience to the teachings of this Church he rightly claims is Biblical is not necessarily accepted by Mr. Van Impe.

His allegiance is to the Bible alone. But allegiance to the Bible alone is not enough. Westboro Baptist is allegiant to the Bible alone and they are incorrect in many ways. We Catholics rightly find the correct interpretation of the Bible in Sacred Tradition. This is the Tradition of Christianity handed down from Jesus to the apostles and given to us by the Church, whose Magisterial teachings are protected from error by the Holy Spirit.

This Sacred Tradition that Mr.Van Impe fails to recognize keeps the errors of man’s sinful nature from reading the Bible in various levels of fallacy and untruth. The “Rapture” is one such deviation from official Catholic Christianity that was invented in the 1800’s in a “system” of reading the Bible known as “dispensationalism”. No doubt you have heard of this. Under this system, one is not obliged to follow the Ten Commandments nor the Sermon on the Mount. It renders most of the Bible of a prior “dispensation” and not relevant to today’s Christian. This is a wrong way to read the Bible.

The Second Coming of Christ is accurate, it is just the way it will happen is not according to a purely literal reading of the Book of Revelation but according to a more symbolic view of the images of things like: beasts, horns, 1000 years, etc. Knowing what will happen next is a tenet of Mr. Van Impe’s theology but it seems that this is not as necessary to the writers of the Biblical text as it is to people today who want to be “in the know”.

A humble search for God and trusting in His Power over the devil’s weak attempts at thwarting God’s Love for us is the way we Catholic Christians see true Christianity. It is not dependent on us knowing the right prophecy concerning tomorrow or reading the headlines of the daily paper, but is about following God’s Spirit in truth and being converted by the power He gives to us through the Church which is the Body of Christ. Ephesians 1:22 “And He hath subjected all things under His feet, and hath made Him head over all the Church, 23 Which is his body, and the fulness of Him who is filled all in all.”

What do you all think of Jack Van Impe’s Biblical Prophesy interpretation?
To the CC only was given the Word of God and Revelation. Outside the Church, the Bible cannot be enterpreted or understood.

“False doctrine of the rapture”??
Yes the doctrine of a secret rapture where it is believed that Jesus will come back and secretly take certain people away and leave everyone else behind is a false doctrine that came about in the 1800s even the protestant reformers did not believe anything like this The Catholic Church teaches and scripture teaches a second coming where Christ will come to judge everyone living and dead and that it will all happen at the same time.
