Jackson in talks to set late Pope's prayers to music

First of all…it isn’t clear from scripture that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, so let’s give her the benefit of the doubt shall we?

Second of all…there is sin, and there is repentance
There is also just plain 'ole common sense.

Michael Jackson has shown not one whit of repentance.
Even though it was not established in court regarding the alleged abuse (the 2nd or 3rd allegation in a decade) - it WAS established in court he was serving booze to minors (calling it Jesus juice), and exposing young boys to pornography.
The police carted out quite a collection of porn from Neverland.
This is a grown man who admittedly held slumber parties on a regular basis for young boys. He admitted they slept in his bed.

Unfortunately the trial was not about the booze and the porn - and now he’s conveniently out of the country.
Not one word of remorse about the booze and the porn. Not one word about the slumber parties being a bad idea.

And THIS is the guy who is going to work with JPII’s prayers?

You do realize, don’t you? That many priests have been found to seduce young men with booze and porn? It happened at my home parish.
Many priests have put a knife in the heart of the Church because they behaved like this.
I thought the Church was trying to dig itself out from under that mess.

It scares me that someone in Rome thinks it makes sense to consider working with this unrepentant man who prefers the company of young boys. Who gives them liquor, gives them pornography, and invites them to sleep in his bed.

When Paul showed up he was a repentant man willing to suffer for God. Paul admitted his sin and committed himself to the Church.
To compare Michael Jackson to Paul does not compute with me.

It isn’t just about giving people the benefit of the doubt and forgiving them.
It’s about the Church’s ability to take the scandal seriously and correct the problems that led to it in the first place.

For the Church to willingly associate itself with this corruptor of young boys does not breed confidence with me.
If they are looking for a mascot to represent ephebophiliac priests, they couldn’t have made a better choice.

Perhaps someone ought to alert the pr department in Rome that this isn’t exactly a good time for the Church to associate itself with a forty year old man who has slumber parties with little boys, shows them pornography, and gives them “Jesus juice”

Talk about putting a gigantic “KICK ME” sign on your own back!

Has anyone bothered to try and authenticate this “news story?”

I ran a Google search on the headline. I got no mainstream news or wire-service hits. Just Scotsman.com and several obscure music news sites and forums. I got a hit for VaticanRadio.com, but the page linked to was blank suggesting that this story may have once been on their site but was removed at some point… possibly because they discovered it to be a fake story.

I also got hits on EuropeanTimes.com and NewsOnJapan.com but same result… the link revealed no story.

Methinks ye are getting spooled up over a hoax. :dancing:
 
I read it in one of the New York papers today…I think it was the post.
I think spiritdaily.com had a link on its site, but I’m not sure to which newspaper.
 
E! Online also has a report in which Jackson’s spokeswoman says the singer is “unaware of the project.”

“Contrary to published reports in Italy, and the United States, Michael Jackson has not participated in any discussions with the Vatican or Edizioni Musicali Terzo Millennio, an Italian music label specializing in religious songs, to record music to Pope John Paul II’s prayers,” Bain stated.

I haven’t followed the Michael Jackson saga very closely, but I think I remember hearing that Jackson still has a following in Europe. This might help to explain why anyone in Rome might have had some interest this disgraced (in the U.S.) performer.

But I am glad the contract has been called off. It would have been a PR nightmare in the U.S.
