Jehovah’s Witnesses always tend to get on my wick for some reason… It’s probably because they seem to think that only their faith is worth practicing and all others are evil, and so they do us all a lovely favour by telling us we’re wrong. On the other hand, they do seem to be scared of English Springers…

This could just be me, but the admittedly few Jehovah’s I’ve met did seem extremely condescending. I suggest politely telling them you’re not interested because you’ve already found your path to God and if they persist, and if you’re well-versed in the Scriptures, try beating them off with a few well-founded arguments, such as Adonia’s excellent point.

Would a list of popes help me…??

JL: Thanks T More, I guess my knowledge is somewhat out of date. It seems the WT changes teachings with the wind or as they used to say tacking in the wind.

The Michael theology seems so convoluted I can’t understand how it works. Is it correct to say to a JW? Michael went out of existance when he became Christ the man. Christ the man went out of existance when he died. Then resurrected as Michael who came into existance again.

I always think of it as an opportunity to give them some truth. I only allow them in the first time if they promise to come back at least five more times. So far, after promising, they have never come back. By now I have been crossed off of their list. Haven’t seen one in several years.
JL: I have lived at my present house about 10 years in a town of about 15,000.00. I have never been visited but have found twice a leaflet in the door saying when their memorial service is.
I would welcome talking to them.

If I did not know my faith and theirs and did not want them to visit, I would say, no offence but I find the WT to be a false prophet and have no interest in false religion. My understanding is they would not return if you call the WT false. O course that could be out of date now.

In a polite way I tell them that I am secure in my faith. Then I pose the question: What you are trying to tell me that for some 1832 years God would allow a lie to be told among the peoples of the world untill your founder came along with the truth? Sorry, I’m not buying it.
I like that… You hold your ground to the truth and give them something to think about to boot.
How is it people can be sucked into such garbage? 🤷
All we can do is pray for people such as these…

Matthew

Last time they knocked on my door I invited them in. It was an older woman and younger initiate and they were both very nice and proper. The older woman started to preach and I asked if we could pray together first. She thought that was a good idea and we all took each others hand. So she started praying and I asked if I could pray instead. She agreed. So I stated the following.

*"Oh God please be with us as I attempt to show two of your lost sheep the folly of their ways, please be with me and give me the words to convince them that your son Jesus Christ truly is not the Angel Michael as they believe he was. * At that point they let go of my hands and began to approach the door to leave. I continued on praying " Lord please forgive them for misinterpreting your word and allow them to see the through for through you all things wrong can be made right". By this time they were gone.

They left a pamphlet on my steps and I took the time to read it. I also said another prayer for them as they moved on to the next house.

It was the best way I could foresee welcoming them into my house.

Don’t feel bad, JL. Alot of JW’s can’t keep up with the changes.😉

Close. Michael became Christ at the Incarnation. Christ was still Christ at the Resurrection, but took another human body altogether, and then shed that body at the Ascension so He could become Michael again. And now after thinking about this again, my eyes have crossed…😃

I’ve been told by a militant atheist Russian friend of mine (who incidentally is not above lying) that telling them you’re Russian Orthodox works rather well (although I have no idea why that might be).
I guess they don’t have a script for Russian Orthodox in the US.

What do they believe?
What is the best approach when they come calling!?

**Dogknox **
They usually try the “common ground” approach when you tell them you are Catholic and not interested.

So ask them which Catholic morals teachings they agree with.

They have their own Bible, they don’t believe in everything our Bible contains.
The best approach, really, is just to not answer the door.
This is why, as others have said, they never come alone. It’s not for security reasons, it’s because two or three can overwhelm you with their "facts’ easier than one can.
The last thing they want is to get into a debate with you about your Catholicism vs their beliefs.
If you must answer the door, just say, thank you, I’m Catholic, and that will usually end that.
As they leave, they might look at you as if to say, gee, how can anyone so seemingly nice not want to know our “truth”?

…If you must answer the door, just say, thank you, I’m Catholic, and that will usually end that. …
I have found just the opposite to be the case. I have yet to have a single one give up right after I told him I was a Catholic. Their enthusiasm only intensified because Catholics and the Catholic Church are their main targets, and, as such, present special challenges.

JW’s do use the sympathy tactic. Examples are as cited pregnant women, or also people handicapped in some way. The reaction they want is, “Oh, look, they are so eager to bring us their message they go out in spite of their condition!”

However, those who are grossly unattractive in some way, who smell, or are terribly weird, are not enouraged to go door to door, because they do not generate sympathy.

I also heard something about the year 1914. How does that factor in?
They had predicted the return of Jesus to be in 1914. When that didn’t happen, they said indeed he had returned, didn’t you notice? He returned invisibly. Also World War I started in 1914, so they used to make a big deal of that. The generation of 1914 is the one that was not supposed to pass away before Jesus came visibly.

Some years back it was reported that there was a good website detailing all the inconsistent teaching of the JWs that the WTS petitioned to have it closed down. Does anyone know which site this is and whether it’s still up and running?

I think this may be the site you’re thinking of.
