I have been visited by Jehovah’s Witnesses for several months. I have always been kind and accepted their literature as to learn more about their sect. Saturday they called again. We had some short words on the cannon of scripture and authority. I also gave them 2 cds I prepared of the program The Journey Home where Marcus interviewed former JWs. I informed this JW that a few minutes at the door step was not enough time to discuss theology. He suggested we sit down next week for a longer period of time. I agreed.

He is coming next Saturday. I will be studying this week to prepare. I was hoping some one could share with me their own experience as it relates to this. What is the best approach to take with this gentleman?

Thanks

I think you will have a difficult time. They are thoroughly trained in certain subjects and will
always turn to that to prove you wrong. I suggest that at the beginning YOU set the
agenda and stick to it. As for the cd’s you have given them, I doubt that they will have listened to it since they are taught anything other than what the Watchtower ( JWs )
teach is of Satan and to be ignored. I have been witnessing to them for about 40 years
and have found it very difficult to get them to think for themselves. Also, DO NOT let
them start a bible study with you. This is how they trap the unsuspecting and weak in
their faith. Pray to the HolySpirit for guidance and help. God Bless.

P.S. I have prepared a paper on Answering the JWs concerning the Holy Trinity. I will send
it to you via email if you are interested. It amy help you.

Angeris, I totally agree with Javl. The JWs have been knocking on our door for 3 years. It’s been the same woman with different companions most of the time. Instead of them asking the question, I try to interview them. Since I noticed most of them were former Roman Catholics I ask them why the change of faith. Of course that would throw them off and they’ll get back to their standard questioning. What questions have they asked you on your doorstep?

Javl, can you please email your paper on the Holy Trinity to me. Thanks in advance.

hi angeris. i would attempt to set some ground rules, a major one being giving him a reasonable amount of time to make his points, then giving you a reasonable amount of time to make yours. that way he needs to listen as well as share his views God bless you efforts.🙂 and always we need to do this in love.👍

Please send it my way… that would be great. I am not interested in their bible study. They could never take me from the Eucharist. However, I have read many stories in my research where unsuspecting Catholics have fallen. However I have listened to several conversion stories and almost all of them planted a seed by a catholic who new their faith. Send me the paper… and thanks for the help!!!

Unless you spend many months studying the doctrines of the JWs and are very Bible knowledgable, I predict that this will turn into a free-for-all brawl. You will argue your doctrine, the JWs will argue theirs and nothing positive will come of it.

When a JW goes to “church”, which they do several times a week, a good portion of their time is spent learning and practicing the art of selling their religion. They are basically professionals at it and the only way to get through to them is with a thorough knowledge of their doctrine and how it is a perversion of the plain teaching of the Bible.

For example, if I hand you a Bible and ask you to prove the doctrine of the Trinity while at the same time prove that Jesus was also fully God and fully man, could you do it without spending a week fumbling through the pages and using reference materials? Not saying you can’t do this, just telling you what to expect.

What you say is true. Keep in mind also that they are trained only in certain passages. If you hit them with some that they don’t know they will stutter and rarely admit they don’t
know it. They will say that they will have to examine the passage and will get back to you ( don’t hold your breath though. ).

I am looking at taking the the position of the Early Church Fathers. You know Sola Scriptura and all will make slinging verses around pointless. However I have been doing lots of research and found that they may or may not be prepared for the early church. They do quote some fathers, but out of context. I have all the writings of the early church so we can go through those. I am not so much concerned with converting them, as I am planting a seed which the Holy Spirit can work with.

I called Catholic Answers and Karl Keating suggested going through John 6 since they really don’t pay to much attention to it. I would have never thought of starting with the Eucharist, however that is Christ greatest gift to us.

More important that theological information -

I can’t tell from your name if you are a man or woman. If you are a woman (and maybe even if you are a man), don’t invite this person into your home if you are the only adult there. If you want to talk to this man, have at least one other adult (a man would be best) there with you. If you can’t arrange that, meet him at a public place.

Yes, that is a good way to go. I usualy start with John 1:1-3 and Isaiah 44:24. I ask
them if Jesus ( the Logos ) is a created being and if He created all, the how did He
create Himself? This confounds them and makes them think for themselves. As you say, just plant the seed and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. God Bless.

Worshiping God Only

Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a
jealous God:

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Matthew 4:10 Then said Jesus unto him, Get away, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship
the Lord your God, and Him only shalt you serve

John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father
in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.

worshiped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly
mind,

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See [thou do it] not:
I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for
the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Revelation 22:9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy
brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

Jesus is Worshiped – and allows worship

Hebrews 1:6 And again, when he brings in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Matthew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Matthew 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshiped him, saying, Lord, if You will, You can make me clean.

Matthew 9:18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Matthew 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Matthew 18:26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshiped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Matthew 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshiped him

Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshiped him,

Luke 24:52 And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God

1Corinthians 8:6 “yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.”

Acts 17:25 “"Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.”

Joe 2:32 “And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.”

Romans 10:9-13 “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.””

Deuteronomy 6:4 “"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!”

Also, DO NOT let them start a bible study with you. This is how they trap the unsuspecting and weak in their faith.
Could you elaborate on what their “Bible Study” is and how it is a trap?
