Sorry, I forgot.
While there is some correct information, the assertion that the Papacy is 3000 years old is utter nonsense.
It doesn’t say the Papacy is 3000 years old.
Finally, the title “Pontifex Maximus” is not a title for the Pope that I have ever seen in Catholic literature. I have only seen it in anti-Catholic artcles.
Thanks for the info.
If you look at the link of the list of popes I provided on my earlie, you will not find any Roman emperors.
Again, thank you. He showed no interest in that.

IMHO–If you respond to his (I presume) challenge you will be on the defensive. Better to respond to such questions with questions.

Q: Why would you want to be a Catholic?
A: Why would you want to be a Jehovah’s Witness?

Think about this–as often as the Pharisees challenged Jesus with questions designed to trip him up be came back with statements that put the ball back in their court. The example of their having brought the woman taken in adultery to him is a classic–he never dignified their question with an answer. His statement “let the one without sin cast the first stone” put them on the same level as the adulterous woman". (A little noted aside in the record shows that the older [and presumably wiser] men were the first to leave.)

The Witnesses base their beliefs on the bible–sort of. Their litterature is peppered with scripture verses that, if read IN CONTEXT has nothing to do with the discussion.

One of the most outstanding examples of this pick-and-choose use of the Holy Scriptures comes from Isaiah 43, a verse from which, in 1931, the Watchtower took the name we’re so familiar with today–Jehovah’s Witnesses.

If you ask a JDub where they got such an odd name they will proudly refer you the verse in that chapter that reads “you are my witnesses sayeth the Lord/Jehovah”. In case you missed the clue that this comes from the book of Isaiah–an Old Testament prophet to the nation of Israel–a reading of the other 27 verses of that chapter shows shows that TEN different times he specifically addresses the JEWISH nation! The JEWS are the ones God called to be his Witnesses!!! (Think about it–of all the world’s people who else could bear such a powerful witness to the marvels and miracles of God than the Jews?)

JDubs think they know so much more about the bible than other Christains especially–they think–Catholics. The truth is that most know only a few dozen “proof texts” (verses used by the Watchtower to support its beliefs). I sincerely doubt your Jehovah’s Witness colleague has ever read the all of the short chapter from the religion he dedicated his life to serve takes their name. My mother, whose been a Witness for more than 50 years, has not. Further, neither she nor her full-time preacher companion could repeat even the first of the 10 Commandments–let alone find them in scripture.

I tell you this so that you will not be cowed by what may seem like superior knowledge on the part of your JDub colleague. Make sure you and he read every verse cited to support his arguments IN THEIR CONTEXT!

This is excellent advice. :yup: And the more scripture you throw at them the sooner your debate will end. 👍

This was so true. The best example was his use of the Our Father. “Uhm, John, why isn’t the Holy Spirit sited in the Our Father?”

Because this is a prayer to God the Father. :newidea:

You have our prayers. :gopray2:

I address some of this in my BLOG.

BTW, this isn’t my first debate with the JW’s.

While you JWs are witnessing, witness this: The 144,000? A quick read of Revelation 7:4-8 reveals them to be 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel. Well, I’m a Gentile. Now what? :doh2:

Jesus, you know him, He who is fully man and fully God? He was great at turning the tables, as in Matthew 21:23-27 when he refused to tell the Pharisees by what authority he taught. If it’s good enough for Him, it’s good enough for me. 👍

No church founded since 0033 is worth joining.

Christ’s peace.

" alse Trinity doctrine." It’s not in the bible you know.:
Hi

To my knowledge, I think , there is no straight passage in the OTBible to prove Trninity, I doubt anybody could help you to find one in this connection. Your JW friedn would find many that won’t support Trintiy. It is time, you shouldn’t debate.
Anyway, you are your best judge; no compulsion.

Thanks

Debunking the Jehovah’s Witnesses beliefs:

A) They are at your door to recruit you for enslavement to their watchtower corporation, they will say that “we are just here to share a message from the Bible” this is deception right off.

B) The ‘message’ is their false Gospel that Jesus is ruling in heaven already since 1914.The problem with this is it’s not just a cute fairy tale,Jesus warned of the false prophets who would claim “…look he is here in the wilderness,or see here he is at the temple”

C) Their anti-blood transfusion ban has killed hundreds if not thousands

D) once they recruit you they will “love bomb” you in cult fashion to also recruit your family & friends or cut them off. There are many more dangers,Jehovah’s Witnesses got a bad rap for good and valid reasons.

You should have a problem with Constantine being the first pope, because he never was. In fact, he didn’t officially convert until the end of his life, at which time he doffed his regal Emperor attire and wore the simple white robes of a neophite. The Eastern Orthodox consider him a saint, though the Catholic Church simply holds him in high regard for his efforts to end Christian persecution.
Your “Sola Scriptura Problem” message is BRILLIANT! 👍

Praise God’s Glorious Mercy that you are home!

Christ’s peace.

You are right.

There is much more biblical support for the Trinity than opposition to it.
The only way you can use Scripture to “debunk” the trinity is to:
  1. Have a custom translation of the bible that is written to prove your ideas.
  2. Take selected passages out of context that seem to prove your point if take on its face.
  3. Stifle any attempt to disprove #1 and #2.

Thanks Scott, that’s what my mind was thinking but I didn’t write it out clearly. 👍
