I love the verse Jeremiah 20:9 When he starts with “Lord, you have duped me…” He then says that he will no longer think about the Lord, nor does he want to. In fact, Jeremiah states he wants to free himself from God, yet he cannot. The temptation is to strong.

I sometimes feel like him.

I would really love to hear from people about their favorite verse in the bible, OT or NT. And why you can relate to it. At least this isn’t a serious thread.🙂

One of my favorite parts of the Bible is from the 2nd Chapter of Phillipians (taken from the next to the last translation of the NAB):
6Though he was in the form of God, Jesus did not deem equality with God something to be grasped. 7Rather, he emptied himself and took the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men. He was found to be of human estate, 8 and it was thus that he humbled himself, obediently accepting death, even death on a cross. 9Because of this, God highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name, 10 so that at Jesus’ name every knee must bend, in the heavens, on the earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue proclaim to the glory of God the Father: Jesus Christ is Lord!

I love this reading because it reminds of how low Jesus the Lord stooped to come as “a slave…,” to die on the Cross; I love this reading even more when I try to envision the day when He comes again, when all nations and people will see Him and proclaim Him Lord… when all the Saints and Angels will shout His praises… when even the demons will have no choice but to proclaim Him Lord – what a glorious day that will be!

Seriously, I have never had this thought in life; unfortunately, some of my actions had proved that I did.

Well when God consumes you from the morning you wake up, until the time you go to bed, when all you can do is think about Him, talk about Him, be spiritually exhausted from dealing with others, you may feel like that.

"Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves, for ye saw no manner of similitude on that day that the Lord spake unto you in Horev out of the midst of the fire;

Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitiude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air…"

Deuteronomy 4:15-17

And also:

"If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or wonder, and the sign or wonder cometh to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul".

Deuteronomy 13:1-3

So many verses to choose from! I’ll keep it to just 2 short ones 🙂

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? - The Prophet Micah 6:8 (RSVCE)

I will not leave you orphans: I will come to you. - The Gospel According to St. John 14:18 (DRV)

The first one chides me at all times because obviously I am far from humble, though I desire to be. And the second one reassures me that I am not alone, and not just not alone but I have a family no matter what.

I used to have the verse from Micah 6:8 on my sig line when I first came here…I had to remove it to make room for what’s there now, due to circumstances that developed on here.

But I like Micah 6:8, and we often use it in the Jewish-Catholic ecumenical movement, because it shows that no matter what religion we follow, God only expects that we do good, love mercy and walk humbly with HIM.

The first one chides me at all times because obviously I am far from humble, though I desire to be. And the second one reassures me that I am not alone, and not just not alone but I have a family no matter what.

On the third day, Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar.
And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go yonder, and we will prostrate ourselves and return to you.”
And Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering, and he placed [it] upon his son Isaac, and he took into his hand the fire and the knife, and they both went together.
And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and he said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Here are the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
And Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And they both went together.

Bereishit 22:4-8

And it will be, when all these things come upon you the blessing and the curse which I have set before you that you will consider in your heart, among all the nations where the Lord your God has banished you,
and you will return to the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul, and you will listen to His voice according to all that I am commanding you this day you and your children,
then, the Lord, your God, will bring back your exiles, and He will have mercy upon you. He will once again gather you from all the nations, where the Lord, your God, had dispersed you.
Even if your exiles are at the end of the heavens, the Lord, your God, will gather you from there, and He will take you from there.
And the Lord, your God, will bring you to the land which your forefathers possessed, and you [too] will take possession of it, and He will do good to you, and He will make you more numerous than your forefathers.
And the Lord, your God, will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, [so that you may] love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, for the sake of your life.

Devarim 30:1-6

The Lord, your God, will bring back your exiles Heb. וְשָׁב, lit., The Lord, your God, will (Himself) return (with) your exiles. [That is, the verb שָׁב is in the simple conjugation. Now, since we understand the verse to mean:“ The Lord your God will bring back your exiles,”] Scripture should have written, אֶת שְׁבוּת‏ ְוְהֵשִׁיב ה [with the verb וְהֵשִׁיב being in the causative conjugation, meaning “to bring back”]. But [although the meaning of the verse is indeed, “The Lord, your God, will bring back your exiles,”] our Rabbis learned from [the simple conjugation of the verb] here [which alludes to God Himself returning], that the Shechinah resides among Israel, as it were, in all the misery of their exile, and when the Jews are redeemed [from their exile], God writes [in Scripture an expression of] redemption for Himself [to allude to the fact that He has also been redeemed, as it were,] so that He Himself returns along with Israel’s exiles (Meg. 29a). A further [lesson] may be learned [from the unusual form of the verb which expresses “to bring back the exiles”]: The day on which Israel’s exiles will be gathered is so monumental and [this ingathering] will be such a difficult [procedure, as it were], that it is as though God Himself must literally take each individual Jew with His very hands, [taking him] out of his place [in exile. We see] the same concept [brought up in Scripture,] when the verse says, “And you will be gathered up, one by one, O children of Israel” (Isa. 27:12). [That verse refers to the ingathering of Israel’s exiles from Babylon. However,] we find this [idea] also regarding the [ingathering of] exiles from the other nations, as the verse says,“And I shall bring back the exiles of Egypt (וְשַׁבְתִּי שְׁבוּת מִצְרַיִם)” (Ezek. 29:14).

I am intrigued by Rashi’s commentary

I wish I could have God consumes me throughout the day. I am not there yet. It is a long wayyyy to go for me.

My main thing is when I act or say things that offend others (hence offend God), I indirectly say “He then says that he will no longer think about the Lord, nor does he want to.”

It is the pride thing that I have to work on.

Well then you’ll understand why I am so passionate and defensive for my faith. Regardless how it comes off. I don’t have a long way to go I am already there. Perhaps when you arrive, you’ll feel the same way.

I have so many…here are a few that make me smile

Proverbs 10:14 The wise man gets all the knowledge he can, but when a fool speaks, trouble is not far off.

Prov 25:24 Better is it to dwell upon a corner of a roof than with a contentious wife

“But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own **** with you” (Isaiah 36:12)

I am not sure why that last one tickles me so…

Numbers 23:19 (NLT):
19 God is not a man, so he does not lie.
He is not human, so he does not change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and failed to act?
Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
So often I forget that even though I KNOW humans will fail me and often cause disappointment (even myself) He never will… This verse has brought me through MANY hard times just remembering that He is not human so He does not fall to human traits… 😊

PERFECT—Thank you:thumbsup:

I see your compassion, but with all due respect, I will not come about my faith with others the way you have been handling on quite a few threads on this particular forum.

If I were actually “there”, I would discuss my faith with people with love, patience, humility, prudence, and much more …

I’d like to see these fruits of the Holy Spirit in you.

That’s great, that’s what works for you.

I don’t think it that way … Remeber, if it doesn’t work for God, you are doing your own will, not His; you are doing your way, not His way.
You can judge me anyway you like. How many people can say they audibly heard the word of God? That I had an epiphany 3 years ago and only my priest knows. I have a letter from the vatican, in which I was invited for an audience with the pope in October and attended. How many people can say this has happened to them? So in the eyes of God, I must be doing something right. And that is all I care about.

Why you always seem to say the word “juding” when discussing with people especially they say things that don’t sound to you?

Why would you just skip over everything else I’ve said?

I think that is great!!! It would be great if you shared this by starting a thread on it if you would like.😃

But I warn you–this does not give you the right to treat people with disrespect.😉
Here is how we should be handling such epiphany from God when sharing
Galations 5 :13-26
**13For you were called to (X)freedom, brethren; (Y)only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love (Z)serve one another. **
14For (AA)the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “(AB)YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”
15But if you (AC)bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
16But I say, (AD)walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out (AE)the desire of the flesh.
17For (AF)the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, (AG)so that you may not do the things that you please.
18But if you are (AH)led by the Spirit, (AI)you are not under the Law.
19Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: (AJ)immorality, impurity, sensuality,
20idolatry, (AK)sorcery, enmities, (AL)strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, (AM)disputes, dissensions, (AN)factions,
21envying, (AO)drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not (AP)inherit the kingdom of God.
**22But (AQ)the fruit of the Spirit is (AR)love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23gentleness, (AS)self-control; against such things (AT)there is no law.
24Now those who belong to (AU)Christ Jesus have (AV)crucified the flesh with its passions and (AW)desires.
25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk (AX)by the Spirit.
26Let us not become (AY)boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. **
God Bless and Peace
