My own ancestry is little mixed. My great great grandfather was with Jewish or Cherokee Indian, no one is quite sure. He was a drifter that settled down in the Smoky Mountains.

So I am about 75% ( or so) Irish, and 25% Cherokee or Jewish.
But I have dark red hair, green eyes and freckles.
My cousins range to looking very Cherokee to looking Aryan German.

Did anyone see the magazine 2 years ago, it was popular science I think. It had the “real Jesus” on the cover. They analyzed skulls from people from his time period and place. then they computer animated what he would have looked like given the skull structure as well as the features of jewish people at that time. He looked very very different from the Jesus we’ve seen.

Here’s the link, I hoep it works:

popularmechanics.com/science/research/2002/12/real_face_jesus/

It’s crazy!!

If somebody is White and prejudiced against Blacks, when they die I hope the good Lord greets them as a Black.

And vice versa, etc. If somebody is Black and prejudiced against Jews, when they die I hope the good Lord greets them as Jewish (not even a very far fetch).

A mid-East suicide bomber may quickly see the Lord as somebody he bombed.

I must be careful for what I wish for. And get racial prejudice out of my heart if any remains.

Matthew 25:32-46. We need to see Jesus every day where we are.

“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?”

This is the Jesus that we better not miss. The Jesus that we need to minister to. This Jesus is every color.
:amen:

The continuance of this thread suggests that it is important what racial characteristics were demonstrated in Jesus’ appearance - a consideration that can only seem to be of import to buoy someone’s opinion that Jesus looking as they looked gives credence to a superiority of one racial or ethnic group over another - a sinful opinion to give oneself over to!!
Cool! After all these years of me trying to examine my heart, somebody who doesn’t even know me can explain it in one paragraph. I shoulda’ checked with somebody like this years ago.

A joke:

Two men were playing golf arguing about whether Jesus was Black or White. “He was white!” proclaimed one man, “He wanted to present the absence of color, to show that color doesn’t matter.” The other man replied, “He was black, because He wanted to present the fullness of all colors, to show that all colors mattered.” At that moment, a lightning bolt hit the two and they died.

Standing before the Golden Gates, these men continued in their argument. Upon seeing St. Peter, they asked him to clear up the matter. “St. Peter…” stated one of the men, "…is Jesus black or white? " St. Peter responds, “Come on in, I’ll take you to Him.” So, he leads them through the Golden Gates where they see Jesus coming forth to greet them saying …

“BIENVENIDOS MIS HERMANOS!”

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

(Spanish for “Welcome my brothers!” for all you monolinguals 🙂 )

Peace,
CM

Let’s see- Jesus’ Father is pure Spirit,so no color there. His Mother appeared as a Black tribal woman in Rwanda,an Aztec in Mexico,Oriental in Akita,Japan, and numerous Eurupean countries. He’s mixed!

Interesting link! I* love *forensic anthropology. Incidently, that’s a lot like what many people on this thread have described as his likely appearance. It’s certainly much closer to my personal image of him.

The one thing that gets me about many depictions of him is not his race, but his build, which the article deals with nicely. He was an outdoorsy, heavy workman, not a waif. Yet another thing I liked about The Passion was the fact that Jesus was physically much healthier looking, and more athletic, than often depicted.

the more I think about it the more it makes sense that Jesus was Hispanic, after all his name was Jesus!

I can never imagine Jesus as being hispanic…how can he be hispanic if he was born in Bethlehem and came from Nazareth??? i don’t see the connection at all.

My best friend is Jewish and is very pale…not tan…as are her Israeli cousins. My Jewish neighbors are also pale…not tanned. I think it depends.
Yeah, your prolly right. All I know is that when they ask me on the " forms " to fill in the “race” question I always answer… " human "

Actually, Jesus was probably an albino, or a Spaniard. LOL, just joking. The IMPORTANT THING: Jesus lives in EVERY human being, and He is Jesus Christ=GOD!!!

“Nobody has heard of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa? I believe she’s the patron saint of Poland.”
Yes, I live only a few miles from the Shrine in Doylestown, PA.
But the black color is from the smoke from countless candles.
The statue of Our Lady of Loretto is black, also Our Lady of Eiselein, Switzerland, and Our Lady of the Pilar in Spain. The statue of Our Lady of Westminster is alabaster. So?
I think the controversy has to do with an ex Roman Catholic priest from Phildelphia, Fr. Rawlings. He has set up his own church in the Wash, DC area. (He has ordained women). He had a ceremony a few years ago when he burned "white " images of Jesus. This is racist as any other hate group.
I don’t know what color Jesus was/is, I don’t think it matters to me. But some people it does.

We used to go to Mass at the Shrine of Czestochowa (thanks for spelling it, I wouldn’t have remembered how) when we lived in Montgomeryville PA on the border with Chalfont!

And Father Rawlings! Oh yes, I remember him when he toured Europe in the summer of 1985 speaking to Catholic military parishes. Then about 10 years ago he broke with the Catholic Church and founded his own denomination! And wasn’t there a scandal about affairs with women that proceeded his break? He was a very charismatic speaker.

The book of Revelation gives the only known description of Jesus’ hair, eye and skin color, at least how it appears post-Ascension:

And his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; and his feet like unto burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace; and his voice as the voice of many waters. - Revelation 1:14-15 (ASV)

In the movie “Malcolm X” these verses are used to justify that Jesus was black, that his hair was like lamb’s wool… however, the quote is mis-paraphrased in the film. Note that the Bible doesn’t say that his hair has the texture of wool, but rather that it has the color of wool as white as snow.

Also, others have pointed out that some Bible versions say “burnished bronze” instead of “burnished brass.” Have you ever seen burnished (polished) bronze? It’s not a dark brown copper color like you see on bronze statues, but looks just like polished brass; it has a golden hue.

Note the Gettysburg monument to Colonel Patrick O’Rourke in the photo below. The bust is made of bronze which is a dark brown color. However, park visitors can’t resist reaching up to rub Paddy’s nose for luck. This has caused the bronze to be burnished into a golden hue. Polished bronze and/or brass also has a glossy golden color when it is still molten during the refining prosess.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

So, according to Saint John the Apostle, Jesus’ hair is snow white, his eyes are the color of fire (mostly golden like the sun undoubtedly with hues of red, green, blue, at the core of the flame) and his skin (at least the skin of his feet) is golden like polished bronze. This doesn’t sound like any race known on this planet.

How Jesus appeared 2,000 years ago is superceeded by how he appears today in glory.
