Ahh, Nietzsche… Hitler loved his philosophy for a reason dude.

Hitler had about as poor an understanding of Nietzsche’s philosophy as David Koresh had of the Gospels.

Nietzsche:

–had profound antipathy for German nationalism and called himself “the last apolitical German”
–detested anti-Semitism and professed it made him “physically ill”, writing against it in the strongest and most contemptuous terms
–called the State, “the coldest of all cold monsters”

This is the same Nietzsche that influenced Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Abraham Maslow, in the domain of psychology; Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Kahlil Gibran, Nikos Kazantzakis, William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, and Jack London, in the domain of literature; Joseph Campbell, in comparative religion/mythology; Richard Strauss and Frederick Delius, in music. None of these individuals, to my knowledge, had Nazi sympathies; nor did Nietzsche, who died in 1900.

One of my favorite Nietzsche quotes, vis-a-vis religion: “as soon as a religion becomes successful, you will find among its opponents many of those who would have been among its earliest adherents.”
