Why did He forgive His executioners and chose to die rather than save His skin?I have searched and cannot find any evidence whatsoever that people were instructed to love their enemies . Until that evidence is forthcoming your assertion is worthless.
Well, I am not here to deconvert you, so I am not going to all the trouble quating texts that, no doubt, you will find reasons to dismiss anyway. The “not” sums up your negativity.
Then your argument lacks substance.
What is there to argue about. Just saying ‘Love your enemy’ is an easy thing to do.I just wrote it down, so it’s really not hard. The hard part is living up to it.Another “not” - and another weak argument.
Which Jesus did…
They use this ‘truth’ and can “justify” their actions just as wel as you can “justify” Jeus’ use of violence.l Christians do has no bearing on the truth of Christianity.
Your concept of violence is tailored to your argument.
It was not a false accusation. he really did those things (if we are to belive the gospels, that is) and those things were considerd criminal offenses.False accusations signify nothing.
He made it quite clear that He did not advocate sedition:
“Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s…”
Nor did He claim to be an earthly king:
“My kingdom is not of this world”.
He didn’t preach against slavery because He knew it would be a waste of time and energy in addition in preventing Him from fulfilling His mission. Christianity does not entail throwing away your life for no purpose. It does not matter if he had good reasons or not. There are very good reasons to oppose slavery, but preaching against it would have been considered a criminal offense. If Jeus had preached against slavery and that was briught up during his trial, would you also say these were false accusations?
This thread is about whether Jesus was a great moral teacher, it is not about my morals.Another evasion which sums up the intrinsic weakness of your arguments. You criticise Christianity but your position is entirely negative. It is the easiest thing in the world to attack but to defend is more far difficult. The sceptic makes himself invulnerable because he offers precisely nothing - but his invulnerability comes at a price: his lack of beliefs and values undermines his credibility. As King Lear said,Philosophy is not concerned with mending cars but with rational interpretations of reality. To reject Jesus as a great moral teacher implies knowledge of a higher level of morality for which you have given no evidence. That is why negativity is highly relevant to the topic. If I say there is something wrong with your car, would the condition of my car be relevant in any way?
