Hi i was wondering Would a reason for not smoking be Jesus died on the cross for your sins and now your killing the life he gave you and damaging the body he gave you and dies for and the whole your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit ? Also the health stuff but I mean from a religious perspective , what does god say ? What do you think ? Sinful ?

Thanks chuck '(I don’t smoke btw I’m just curious)

I’m an ex-smoker. The reason you should not smoke is because it is bad for your health.

I’m an ex smoker and I gave up because I realized it’s a sin to damage yourself knowingly. Realizing it was a sin was enough for me to give up. It has been over 2 years now.
Also it’s a vice and God does not like it when we fall prey to vices. Especially when they cause ruin to us. I think if one is smoking or even drinking or over eating it is a sign of a lack of trust in God. We need to get our strength from him not vices which ruin our health and the state of our soul.

Yh I know that but apart from that like religious reasons like what would Jesus say kinda think

1 Corinthians 6:19
Knox Bible
Surely you know that your bodies are the shrines of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in you. And he is God’s gift to you, so that you are no longer your own masters.

""Now I’m a feller with a heart of gold
And the ways of a gentleman I’ve been told
The kind of guy that wouldn’t even harm a flea
But if me and a certain character met
The guy that invented the cigarette
I’d murder that son-of-a-gun in the first degree

It ain’t cuz I don’t smoke myself
And I don’t reckon that it’ll harm your health
Smoked all my life and I ain’t dead yet

But nicotine slaves are all the same
At a pettin’ party or a poker game
Everything gotta stop while they have a cigarette

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

Now in a game of chance the other night
Old Dame Fortune was a-doin’ me right
The kings and the queens just kept on comin’ round

And I got a full and I bet ‘em high
But my bluff didn’t work on a certain guy
He just kept on raisin’ and layin’ that money down

Now he’d raise me and I’d raise him
I sweated blood, gotta sink or swim
He finally called and didn’t even raise the bet

So I said “aces full Pops how 'bout you?”
He said “I’ll tell you in a minute or two
But right now, I gotta have me a cigarette”

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hates to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

(Ah, smoke it! Hah! Yes! Yes! Yes!)

The other night I had a date
With the cutest little girl in the United States
A high-bred, uptown, fancy little dame

She loved me and it seemed to me
That things were 'bout like they oughta be
So hand in hand we strolled down lover’s lane

She was oh so far from a cake of ice
And our smoochin’ party was goin’ nice
So help me cats I believe I’d be there yet

But I give her a kiss and a little squeeze
And she said, “ah, Marty, excuse me please
I just gotta have me another, cigarette”

And she said, smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette.""

I have not been successful in getting my son to quit smoking. He has used patches, gone to smoking cessation classes, and tried other methods but still hasn’t given it up for good. I try not to be a nag about it. His wife and I have both failed. But like everything else, he has to want to do this himself. The posters have given food for thought as to how to better approach the subject. I do believe we need to take care of the bodies God gave us. Eat healthy, exercise, and do not indulge in anything that would harm us physically. Or spiritually or mentally. I guess, bettr stated, that would be take care of your body, mind and soul. Blessings to all.

A close relative of mine is currently being treated for lung cancer, and has had surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. This relative is not doing well with the side effects of the therapy, and the prognosis is unknown at this point.

This person smoked when everyone smoked and the hazards of smoking were not as well known or as widely accepted, but quit about 30 years ago. Was it the smoking that caused the cancer? Can’t say for sure, but if he knew that it might end up this way, he’d not have started in the first place.

So…to answer the question…I pose another:

Do you think Jesus would like you to have a painfully (literally) and prematurely shortened life due (at least in part) to something you willingly subjected your body to?
