Incisors and canines are for meat, molars for vegtation. We are neither carnivores nor herbivores. We are omnivores.

We have molars for grinding. Your teeth are not like a dog or cat for ripping flesh.

Genesis 1:29 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

I didn’t say anything about Jesus.
CCC 2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image. Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

My dad was a design engineer for 3M and was sent to a plant in Alabama for awhile. While there his boss and others decided to go to a well-known rib joint for lunch. One of the guys knew that my dad wouldn’t eat the pork ribs and asked him what he was going to eat. My dad said that they might have some salad or something that he could eat. The others immediately wanted to know why he wasn’t going to eat the ribs. When he told them that God said it was unclean they laughed and poo-pooed. Then my dad’s boss who was a chemical engineer told them about a project he had done at school on the internal workings of a pig. When he got done they decided to eat somewhere else.
Incisors and canines are for meat,
I was trying to remember what those teeth were called. Our incisors work well on fruit and fish as well–not just meat.

THey were right. We are not beholden to the dietary laws of the Old Testament.

CWBetts: yes, you are right, but the possibilities from the pork is higher than other types of meat.

thistle: why not 😛 , check (Genesis 1:29).

love4mary: you said it “if properly cooked”, but what if not.

Biblioassistant: Okay :).

juno24: forth, :console:.

jmcrcia: who said something about “holier-than-thou attitude”, my point is if it harms then we should stay away from it, if it doesn’t then its okay.

spoiltvictorian: it seems you like your stomach too much :p.

Among Strangers: :yup:.

dzheremi: you always have wise and logical answers :aok:.

djconklin: thanks for reminding us with (Genesis 1:29).

nicolep: :ehh:.

In general, I felt a little disturbed when I read that professor somehow giving credit to the Jewish and Islam religions for prohibiting that, as if Christianity allows it, that is why I have started this thread.

Sam,
When you eat a pizza with ham/bacon on it, you will see why there is nothing wrong with pork products. 😉

Second that is why you cook everything well done
There’s a few problems with this approach:

1) Who checks?
2) Do you know at what temp you kill the worms and eggs?
3) When you eat some pork at a restaurant do you know that they checked?

I worked at a fast food joint where we were supposed to check one of the chicken items in four places every time we ran a batch. While the company inspector was there the boss leaned across and asked me in a whisper: “How are we supposed to do this?!?” I told him him “We don’t.” We didn’t have the time or the labor to do the work. They gave us more work to do, but didn’t allocate any extra labor to do it.

4) Why would you want to eat the worms and the eggs?

There were Jews that had hired South and Central American women to be their maids and cooks. On a Mystery ER show {this is the very short version} they showed how one young man came in with grand mal seizures and they were going to operate on his brain when one of the doctors looked at the x-rays and told the others that’s not a tumor. With more investigating they found it was trichinosis–that’s when they found out he was Jewish, so how did he get it? The doctor actually went to the family’s home and that’s when he saw the cook. He realized she hadn’t washed her hands thoroughly after she had gone to the bathroom and the little worms had fallen into the food she was making for the family.

What’s the title of this thread? “Jesus didn’t say eat pork”. I don’t think you were the OP, but my edit was an after thought…hence the word EDIT.

I’m not sure why you’re giving me a confused face, but I’d appreciate it if you have something to say to me that you would just say it.
May I say something?

assuming you have just given me the go ahead

Stop being so dang snippy.

As we used to say in basic training:

Have a salad and relax.

Ah! That’s where you got it from!

I use '===" place after a response when I’m going on from one post to someone else’s post.

LOL! Thanks for the hug.

Judaism and Islam do prohibit the eating of pork, however Christianity does indeed allow it. Peter received a vision from God specifically showing him that ALL things are clean, and therefore are acceptable to eat. Jesus tells us that it is not what enters a man that makes him unclean. There is no prohibition in Christianity against eating pork.

Now, if a Christian chooses not to eat pork (or anything else) because of health or other non-religious reasons, they are certainly free to do so. The thing is, that person is not free to demand that anyone else not eat pork. It is not a Christian prohibition, improperly handled/cooked meat not withstanding.

Peter received a vision from God specifically showing him that ALL things are clean, and therefore are acceptable to eat.
Later on in the chapter after Peter had the vision he showed that he was not to consider Gentiles as unclean.

Acts 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. …

Acts 10:28 28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Notice that the “opposite” of unclean is common–i.e., Jews when they have been in the company of the Gentiles is considered “common” until they have been cleansed.

Acts 10:15 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

The unclean is still unclean. It is the Jew who is not to consider the Gentile as “common” which needs to be “cleansed” through circumcision.

The dietary laws are null and void, so stop telling me what to eat.

Well, they aren’t null and void and I’m not telling you what to eat–God is.

Have you been to a feed mill and seen the large cans of Drano yet?

If pork harms the human body, then shouldn’t people stop eating it, please read this scientific article:

Don’t really know why you bring this subject, Sam. Do you want to justify Jewish and Islamic laws?

From a spiritual point of view, I don’t think there is any harm to eat pork. Not from the the very beginning in Genesis or in the Gospel.

If it is a health law, then it shouldn’t be a sin either to eat pork. The most one gets is getting sick. But we have to remember, the soul does not die.

Then there should be more laws on health, as it is not only pork (as we know today) that is hazardous to our health.

What part of ‘there is nothing that enters a man’s mouth that makes him unclean’ do you not understand? It’s clear enough - the food we eat does not make us unclean as the food the Jews ate did to them. It no longer makes us unclean because, as God said to Peter in Acts 10, he has CLEANSED it. Therefore it is NO LONGER unclean (that’s what ‘cleansed’ means - and that word is used in numerous Bible translations), and we can eat.

As for Drano - big deal. My father farms and butchers his own cows, I’ve seen plenty of things, and I’ve never heard of anyone suffering ill effects from the use of Drano in processing pigs, do you have any cases to point me to? 🤷
