This Easter the History Channel ran a show called “The Jesus Strand.” Scientists obtained DNA from blood clots taken from the Shroud of Turin. Apparently the blood clots were taken during testing taken in the past.

This raises some questions immediately, such as… Do these clots taken from the shroud, and on the Shroud contain the Divinity or essence of God? Is this not a sacrilege to test these clot? Why did the Church allow these samples to be taken and kept by scientists?

They found that Jesus was AB type blood, and has descent from Druze ancestry.

Lets…dissect this a little shall we?

We aren’t really certain about the provenance of the Shroud of Turin - a lot of questions arise due to carbon dating amongst other things.

But if we are to take this seriously - wouldn’t we able to match up the DNA in other objects that we believe Jesus bled on.

The Scala Sancta for instance?

Incidentally, the Miracle at Lanciano - had their blood tests registering as AB as well. And that’s an authenticated Miracle.

I saw that same thing!
Sounds good to me 🙂 Very likely.

Would there be any DNA there after 100 generations of footfalls, rain, snow, etc?

Seriously, no, even if the blood provenance were to be established, His divinity would not be transferred to it; just as your soul does not accompany blood that leaves your body, or dust formed from your skin, etc.

Actually, we are quite sure about the Shroud’s provenance. It was first the Image of Edessa, brought there by the disciple Thaddeus. Taken from Edessa to Constantinople in 944 it became known as the Holy Mandylion. After being confiscated in 1204 by the French Fourth Crusade it was hidden by the Knights Templar for 150 years. It finally resurfaced in 1357 in Lirey, France as the Holy Burial Cloth of Jesus.

The 1978 STRUP scientific investigation of the Shroud proved beyond any doubt its authenticity. The Shroud’s stains are human blood stains. The Image is that of a real human body. The Divine Image itself is not composed of any paint, stain, or pigment, and is not reproducible by any method, modern or ancient. It is only explainable by a miracle, and that miracle is the disappearance of Jesus’ corpse from within His burial linen.

The 1988 C-14 dating of the Shroud produced an unexpected result. The youngest date obtained was 1448, and that was from the part of the sample that was the closest to the Image. As the parts of the sample get further away from the Image, their C-14 dates get older by 255 years, and that is way outside of the range of error for C-14 dating for something supposedly only 600 years old. This means that the miraculous creation of the Image affected the amount of C-14 in the linen.
So far from being a factor that casts doubt on the authenticity of the Shroud, the C-14 dates actually prove that our Lord’s corpse disappeared from inside of His burial linen.
This is known as the Historically Consistent Hypothesis because the Gospel of Matthew says the same: that Jesus’ body disappeared from inside of His blocked, sealed, and guarded tomb.

IDK about the head cloth, but with the shroud for instance. It has been tested and there is blood, human blood there’s not nucleus. Evidently Golgi apparatus and mitochondria there. There is pollen from plants that grow only within 50 miles of Jerusalem. Mitochondrial DNA is only inherited from mothers on down the line. They can’t tell you what the shroud is but what it isn’t. No paint ec cetra.

I guess I’m a lil spoiled though as I’ve seen the lineage from Jesus to the present Prince John. Not just Adam to Jesus so maybe I’m a little “on the inside” 😉

But as far as the Druze. In the Master’s day it was an open religion. It sounds very sensible and balanced. Today it is closed. And not much is known by outsiders.

God Bless.

Another thing is this linen was handled much. Around the corners .Exactly where they took the C-14 sample. 😦

Druze?
Huh? That’s a religion, not a dna race, isn’t it?
As I understand it, they are very endogamous, and I don’t believe they allow conversion, so they could fulfill both criteria.

Hmm. Did not know all of that - thanks !

But if that’s the case, why does the Vatican “hedge” a lot in terms of its statements regarding the Shroud of Turin. JP2, Benedict, and Francis never put the claim forward that it is what people think it is.

We get statements like: “the Man of the Shroud invites us to contemplate Jesus of Nazareth.”

But we never get a statement of authentication.

No different from the distinction between “Judaism” and “Jewish ethnicity.” 😉

They are a very interesting people - i’ve only met 1 family in SoCal nearly a decade back.

I believe the official statement doesn’t confirm nor deny authenticity. it’s a relic worthy of veneration that reminds of the things Jesus went through.

They are an ethnic group. They trace there linage to ancient Egypt. 3000 years or so. Probably longer than that IMHO. And they have their own religion. There’s around 1 million I believe or so. Many around Nazareth.

Yes Jesus actual Blood on the Shroud, is the same blood in the masses being said throughout the world (the Last Supper happened before His death, and Jesus offered His Body and Blood to the Father for us, Jesus Blood on the Cross opened Heaven for us and wiped away our sins, yes His Blood would have the same status as Eucharist,

The Vatican permitted scientific tests on two Eucharistic miracles also, and proved that the blood in the Eucharistic Miracles were blood type AB also, of the same person, of the Heart tissue, same blood type as.the Turin Shroud)

Phorensic pollen analysis on the Shroud places the Shroud in Jerusalem 2017 years ago, and proves.it was used for anointing a body for burial also,
And proves it was in all the historical locations on earth with the correct dates in history (of where Shroud history says.the Shroud was hidden throughout.the centuries)

What two Eucharistic miracles are you referring to? Was there actual blood somewhere? Humm.

The blood is only a couple of microfibers thick. Not even a fiber thick. The linen is also dirty old has been wet and through two fires if I am correct.

How in the world could you ever declare “proof” that the shroud was once wrapped around Jesus?
