Jesus missing for three days - finding in the temple

And the finding of Jesus by St. Joseph was one of his outpourings of joy.

Just like the apostles had joy when they learned of the resurrection (to them it was verification that Jesus was the Messiah and that scripture was true). Yet, many doubted and gave up during the passion.

Mary never gave up. She had a firm belief in the resurrection just like many of the prophets before her. Abraham, their ancesotr, even reasoned of the resurrection and had Faith.

These events (Abraham Isaac, Jesus in Temple, Death/Ressurection) were all a test of faith or their Faith on trial.

Mary’s Faith, her gift, was most of all lived out in time. No one had more Faith than Mary; hence, her great spiritual gifts and the reason for her great power as an intercessor on the Church’s behalf (Wedding Feast of at Cana as a biblical example of this).

And how does this information you provide refute anything posted in this thread?

The idea that God willed to separate His human nature from His Divine nature is part of the heresy noted.

The second question from Jesus may imply they didn’t fully realize how important the temple was for Jesus.

The temple was called “the house” “our house” by Joseph his father.

The temple was “the house” of his father.

Great question! But I think we have to understand that children are a gift from God. Jesus was a blessing to Mary (as we say in the prayer) and Joseph as our children are to us. They are not ours, but rather God’s from the beginning - they are on ‘loan’ to us if you will. We must teach them to love God first before us as parents, yet we will always feel that burden of care for them - just like Mary and Joseph had concern for Him and went searching for Him.

In another instance, Jesus explains how we are to follow Him, not stopping to say goodbye to our parents or other loved ones. Anyone that loves anyone or anything more than Jesus is not worthy of Him. Therefore, Jesus being perfect and loving the Father, could not have stayed behind with Mary and Joseph even if some people think his action contradicted the fifth commandment. It did not. In fact, by going to the temple, Jesus, in this instance, fulfilled the greatest commandment of all - to love God with all your heart and mind. As the Son, he had to obey the Father first just as His followers, we must obey Him first above all else. And yes, this may sometimes cause conflict within the family unit - but did our Lord not also say that he came to bring a sword and that sometimes this would turn son against father and daughter against mother? This is the mystery that we can only be at peace with if the Spirit is with us. I hope it is with all of us.

I would be careful when making assumptions that the text does not support.
As well, the Christian teaching tradition which produced the bible never handed on any such idea to be recorded in writing. Indeed, what was handed on was that Jesus was like us in all things save for sin.

We err when we apply human precepts to God.

The question : “didn’t you know that I must stay in the house of my father?” is for Mary and Joseph. The house of his father was the house of Joseph.

The interpretation “house of God” diverts attention from “our house-house of Joseph-Mary-Jesus” .

Jesus’ question was “didn’t you know…?” and concerned only his parents.

Not sure if that response was meant for me or for the person I was replying to. I do not believe my answer suggested that I applied a human precept to God.

There is information in the Bible to indicate to one that this could be the case.

What constitutes Catholic Teaching according to Catholic Teaching?

I can’t remember, actually. In any case, it is observable human nature that we all think as man does and not as God does. Our Lord said as much to Saint Peter.

Rhetorical question: Are we superior to Saint Peter?
