did Jesus found the Catholic Church?

we are supposed to follow church teachings to inherit the kingdom, but i don’t agree with many Catholic teachings. I’ve attended bible study and mass at my friends regular Christian church, i agree with this denomination more.

I am baptized Catholic, but could i still follow regular Christian teachings and inherit the kingdom?

would I have to convert?

or would this be wrong if Jesus in fact did found Catholicism because it would be the wrong religion to follow?

Yes, it is a historical fact.

Try not to take this as a personal attack, but you need to ask yourself: why do I value my own personal interpretatiion (or that of man-made denominations only a few hundred years old) over that of the Church that Christ founded?

Catholic teaching IS regular Christian teachings – all else that conflict are johnny-come-lately doctrines of men, to put it bluntly.
would I have to convert…or would this be wrong if Jesus in fact did found Catholicism because it would be the wrong religion to follow?
I think you know the answer to that. 🙂

Jesus did found the Catholic Church, though 95% will refuse to accept that. Following the Church is following Christ because we are member of the body of Christ and the by of Christ and the Church are supposed to be 1

Perhaps you can raise some of the Catholic Doctrines you don’t agree with and solicit some help from your brothers and sisters on this Board. Often, there is a misunderstanding of Church doctrine (even among Catholics) and/or we may be able to help show you how the Catholic docrtine is scriptural?

Blessings,

You need to learn what it is that the Catholic Church teaches and why she teaches it before you reject her.

The Church is the body of Christ and Christ is the head of his body. That my friend is straight out of the Bible (Ephesians 5:23-24). To disagree with the Church (his body) is to disagree with Jesus Christ himself. Think about that when you make such statements like “I don’t agree with many of the teachings of the Church.” Also Jesus said when we have a disagreement with a fellow Christian we are to take it to the Church (Matthew 18:17). The Church (his body) has final authority, not an individual man. The Church is there to help us get to heaven. The Church is not a dictator but a teacher.

There are some awesome resources out there to help you learn about the Church and What it means to be a Catholic Christian.

Catholic Home Study Service is a free program that will help you learn about the Church and what it means to be Catholic.

Bible Christian Society has some free talks by John Martignoni that you can listen too. He uses the Bible ALONE to defend the teachings of the Church.

St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology has a really good Bible study course that you can take in your spare time, it’s also free.

You state you are baptized, have you received First Communion and have you been confirmed? Those Sacraments are important and I would encourage you to receive them as well as confession on a regular basis. If you get the resources I listed above they will explain the importance of the Sacraments, and you need to learn there importance before you receive them.

This should help you get started. There are many more resources out there, in fact your own parish may even have it’s own Bible study. If not a neighboring parish will. A number of them do.

2 Peter 2:20 For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former.

21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of justice, than after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them.

Jesus Christ entrusted His flock upon Peter, the first Pope.
Turn your back on him and the bishops in communion with him and you turn your back on God.

Luke 10:16 He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.

Your profile states that you are Catholic. Sadly, it seems you have been poorly catechized. Please do not reject the church until you understand what she teaches. I find that people who leave the Church have no idea what the Church teaches when they say they disagree with her. If they knew, they would not have left!

Another poster sugggested you list some of your disagreements and we can help you understand better. That would be a start but you would have to commit to doing research yourself - we can also help you with that, too, but you have to read and study and pray.

If you’ll commit - so will we!!

i don’t agree with:

confession only being valid with a priest

ban of contraception with married couples

going to hell for having one unconfessed mortal sin

that the pope can make laws that aren’t necessarily biblically supported

don’t get me wrong I understand morals and I love God and Jesus, I just feel that the Catholic church is too strict on restrictions for getting into heaven. I’m scared everyday that i won’t inherit the kingdom

You say you’re afraid you won’t inherit the Kingdom. Well, so am I.

Jesus said,
“Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”
(Matt 7:13-14, RSV)

It seems to me that looking for a less “strict” church is taking that wider path.

It sounds like you’ve been listening to some arguments against the Church and her teachings, You need to understand **why **the Church teaches what she does.

When you go to Confession, you confess to God. The priest absolves you in persona Christi. That means that Jesus is using the priest’s body to personally forgive you. It’s the same in the Liturgy of the Eucharist. When the priest says “This is my body,” it is Jesus, in person, using the priest’s body to consecrate the Host.

To understand why contraception is wrong, you have to understand what marriage is. In simple terms, the spouses should each be giving completely to the other. Not saying, “I love everything about you except your fertility.” When they use NFP, they still love each other’s fertility.

Mortal sin: God is merciful. It’s quite possible that He wouldn’t send someone to hell for one mortal sin. But why take the risk? And do you know what mortal sin is? There are three conditions that have to be met. See the Catechism, 1856-1861.

When people talk about “the Pope making laws that aren’t necessarily biblically supported,” there are usually two points involved. One is the Assumption of Mary. Indeed, there’s nothing in the Bible that states that she was assumed into Heaven - but we do not rely solely on the Bible; we have the Early Fathers and big-T Tradition to back us up. (And there are hints in the Bible about it.) The people you’re talking with have only the Bible. (And it was assembled by Catholics, and preserved by us from the very first days that things were written down.)

The other point is Papal Infalliblity. The Pope is not infallible 24/7; in fact, an infallible teaching is a *very *rare thing. There have been only two in the past 150 years or so. When Jesus founded the Church, He promised that the Holy Spirit would guide her into *all *truth (Jn 16:13). This prevents the Pope from teaching falsely. He also gave Peter, the first Pope, the job of feeding His sheep (Jn 21:15-17).

If their church is protected from error by the Holy Spirit, why do they disagree with other non-Catholic churches about what the Bible says? Which one has the real truth?

I made my choice three years ago, and I’m sticking to the Catholic Church.

God bless you in your search,

Ruthie

P.S. What church have you been studying with?

i don’t agree with:

confession only being valid with a priest
Well, who did Jesus give the authority to forgive sins in His Name to? I only see the Apostles.

With the masses, Jesus said to forgive, else you wouldn’t be forgiven.

BTW, can you show me anywhere in Christian history where the Church agreed with you on this matter?
ban of contraception with married couples
Again, every Christian church disagreed with you up til 1930. Did we finally open our eyes, or has the history of the Church taught this since Apostolic Times. If you read your history, you’ll find that you are in the minority.
going to hell for having one unconfessed mortal sin
I wasn’t aware of this, either. Where does the Church teach this?
that the pope can make laws that aren’t necessarily biblically supported
He can’t. But the Bible gave him authority to make rules. So, every rule he makes is biblically supported. Either Jesus gave him the authority to bind and loose or He didn’t. My bible says that He did.
don’t get me wrong I understand morals and I love God and Jesus, I just feel that the Catholic church is too strict on restrictions for getting into heaven. I’m scared everyday that i won’t inherit the kingdom
I think you have been poorly catechized, at least according to what you’ve posted.

I just remembered an article that I think our op would benefit from reading. Thank you for reminding me. 🙂 The article is written by a Protestant (Lutheran).

Are you sure this link is working? I’m dying to read it. On a recent thread, I was being challenged to provide proof that everyone prior to 1930 condemned it (it seems our Missouri Synod Lutherans think they never condemned contraception) and would love solid evidence.

Hmmm, interesting, not sure why the link isn’t working when clicked on. Here is the URL. The author describes himself as a “cradle Lutheran”.

Hi Oh, 👋**

did Jesus found the Catholic Church?

**Yes, the religion was founded in the year 33 by Our Lord Jesus Christ; the One True Faith, “… outside of which no one at all can be saved.” **

we are supposed to follow church teachings to inherit the kingdom,

**
They are Jesus teachings, but yes, that is true!**

but i don’t agree with many Catholic teachings.

**
Then you are in trouble aren’t you? Prayer can help!**

I’ve attended bible study and mass at my friends regular Christian church,
**
Protestants don’t have mass except Anglicans. The rest have fellowship and weird things like potlucks & prayer meetings. Protestants have over 100 different bibles:eek: Even their lies have been changed and distorted!! **

Click on: Phoney bible

i agree with this denomination more.

**Isn’t that precious! You believe lies.“The Bible, Tradition, and the Magisterium, no one of them can subsist without the other two” --Fr John Corapi **

I am baptized Catholic, but could i still follow regular Christian teachings and inherit the kingdom?

**You were baptised a christian in the Catholic church.

I have no idea what you mean by “follow regualr Christian teachings” That would be the Catholic Truths.

You can copy money but if it doesn’t have the backing of the authorized issurer it is counterfeit. It can’t be spent to buy anything!

You can copy Christianity, but if it doesn’t have the backing of the Holy Catholic Church it is counterfeit. It can’t be used to obtain salvation! You can not follow any counterfeit christian faith’s beliefs and be assured of obtaining salvation.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) --Jul 10,2007,
Non-Catholics Not True Christians. The Vatican on Tuesday said Christian denominations outside the Roman Catholic Church were not full churches of Jesus Christ.

A 16-page document, prepared by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which Pope Benedict used to head, described Christian Orthodox churches as true churches, but suffering from a “wound” since they do not recognize the primacy of the Pope.

But the document said the “wound is still more profound” in the Protestant denominations – a view likely to further complicate relations with Protestants.**

would I have to convert?

**
You would have to ask the phoney church what their rules are. There are corrently 33,000 counterfeit denominations, and non-denominations with 28,000 sub denominations, non-denominational factions and various associations, conferences, conventions, communions, fellowships, groups, sect, cults and unions. All 61,000 of them having 1,375 different doctrines and dogmas to choose from. The Catholic church that has taught only the same truths for 2,000 years refusing to compromise the truth and remained faithful to Jesus teachings. **

or would this be wrong

**Oh, yes it would 😃 **

if Jesus in fact did found Catholicism…
**
He did. That is a Historical fact. But, IF you have no faith, so what, it doesn’t matter what church you stay home from does it? If you are a Catholic and practice the religion as you are required to in order to be in fact a Catholic, you would have no doubt.

Only the Catholic Church can offer the real communion. The Eucharist! In it, Jesus is present both Physically and Spiritually. He is “Completely” present. Your Lord and God is Here for you to worship and eat as He commanded you must do to obtain eternal salvation. You can consume His body and be filled with His grace and love.

Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” --John 6:67-69 **
… because it would be the wrong religion to follow?
**

Hi Shelie, 👋

EXCELLENT POST! **:amen: :amen:

i don’t agree with:

**You are making yourself a god! You do realize that don’t you? You are the servant ~ He is God. You must agree or die! It is that simple! **

confession only being valid with a priest

**
Would you rather have confession with no one? Jesus Himself spiritually comes when two or more are gathered in his name doesn’t he? Would you like to stand up in front of the entire church and confessing them, Some Protestants do that!

For sins committed after baptism, we have a different sacrament called penance, confession, and reconciliation, each word emphasizing one of its aspects. During his life, Christ forgave sins, as in the case of the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1–11) and the woman who anointed his feet (Luke 7:48). He told us, “the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” (Matt. 9:6), which is why the Gospel writer himself explains that God “had given such authority to men” (Matt. 9:8).

Christ gave this power to other men in the Church, which is the continuation of his presence throughout time (Matt. 28:20), so they could offer forgiveness to future generations. He gave his power to the apostles, and it was a power that could be passed on to their successors and agents.

God had sent Jesus to forgive sins, but after his resurrection Jesus told the apostles, “‘As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’” (John 20:21–23). (This is one of only two times we are told that God breathed on man, the other being in Genesis 2:7, when he made man a living soul. It emphasizes how important the establishment of the sacrament of penance is. **

ban of contraception with married couples

** Christians have always condemned contraceptive sex. Both forms mentioned in the Bible, coitus interruptus and sterilization, are condemned without exception (Gen. 38:9–10, Deut. 23:1).The purpose of sexual intercourse in natural law is procreation; contraceptive sex, which deliberately blocks that purpose, is a violation of natural law. Every church in Christendom condemned contraception until 1930, when, at its decennial Lambeth Conference, Anglicanism gave permission for the use of contraception in a few cases. Soon all Protestant denominations had adopted the secularist position on contraception. Today not one stands with the Catholic Church to maintain the ancient Christian faith on this issue. That is proof of the devil at work! **

going to hell for having one unconfessed mortal sin

**I don’t agree about going to jail for being drunk. But, It is the law. You don’t agree with the law of God? OK! Tell Him to change that law of His for you! **

that the pope can make laws that aren’t necessarily biblically supported

He can’t and he wouldn’t! That is a Protestant lie that you have already learnt. Way to go my foolish friend!

don’t get me wrong I understand morals and I love God and Jesus,

**Don’t get me wrong your eternal soul is in real danger! **

I just feel that the Catholic church is too strict on restrictions for getting into heaven.

**So you want to shop around like these things are negotiable? You don’t want to follow God’s laws supported by scriptures but you are worried about the pope making more? :rotfl: **

I’m scared everyday that i won’t inherit the kingdom

** Good! That just may save your soul! It is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. “Fear of the Lord” My advise PRAY!
Prayer is always the answer you have to supply the question. And you should keep away from Protestants until your Faith is stronger. Not that they are evil but they are against Jesus’ real church, the devil has them blinded to the truth. They know lies and are telling you them. Your Faith is too weak to defend yourself against Satan!

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” --1 Peter 5:8

Every Christian has an enemy. Although unseen by the natural eye, this adversary is not imaginary nor a mythological character. Satan, the Devil, is a real person… a spirit being, with intelligence, tangible characteristics, and whose incessant goal and ambition is to “steal, kill, and destroy” – John 10:10.**

** “Ignorance of the Catechism is ignorance of Christ, just like the Bible…Theologians who teach that angels, the devil, and hell, don’t exist have lost their faith.” Fr John Corapi

“Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this Faith is to see what you believe” – Saint Augustine

Lets pray for each other that we may become worthly of the promises of Christ!

God Bless
