As always (and reminiscent of the [thread=123762]“Gospel” of Judas[/thread] aftermath), it is a shame that retractions aren’t printed front page above the fold…

"]Jesus tomb film scholars backtrack
By ETGAR LEFKOVITS

Several prominent scholars who were interviewed in a bitterly contested documentary that suggests that Jesus and his family members were buried in a nondescript ancient Jerusalem burial cave have now revised their conclusions, including the statistician who claimed that the odds were 600:1 in favor of the tomb being the family burial cave of Jesus of Nazareth, a new study on the fallout from the popular documentary shows.

The dramatic clarifications, compiled by epigrapher Stephen Pfann of the University of the Holy Land in Jerusalem in a paper titled “Cracks in the Foundation: How the Lost Tomb of Jesus story is losing its scholarly support,” come two months after the screening of The Lost Tomb of Christ that attracted widespread public interest, despite the concomitant scholarly ridicule.

I am pleased that that garbage has fallen apart instead of creating some great controversy to sell his books and dvds.

People in the know are coming to their senses, perhaps, but I wouldn’t call is “fallen apart” unless the Discovery Channel hypes and broadcasts an hour long special: We Are Dumb: The Lost Credibility from Jumping the Gun on a Piece of Tripe.

:twocents: 😉

The point for them is not to be “right”

The point for them is not to “stand corrected”

The point is for them to make people doubt. If they can do that, they have accomplished their goal.

EXACTLY. The average person who watched that show isn’t going to “follow-up” on that story or do immense research. They just had a seed planted in their head that Christ didn’t rise from the dead and ascend into heaven, but rather is buried in a box. They then change the channel, go on with their lives, but with this vague notion in their head of the “truth” about Jesus. It is VERY intentional that this pseudoscience is done in this manner and for this very purpose. Do you think they finally figured it out 2 months after the show how wrong they were? Please. Thing is they will easily get another spot on The History Channel ( as they did with “Exodus Decoded”) or ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc.

I know that there are more important stories for the major networks to report on regarding breaking news but do you think any of them will make an effort to report on this retraction like they did with the actual story of Jesus’ tomb being found.

If I had to bet on it…I would bet not!

I think, though, that the show was so badly done, and it was such ****** science, and that discussion show directly after showed what a sham it was. I would have expected a huge uproar over the show after, as people either went up in arms or discussed how it affected christianity. Neither happened. Which shows it had little impact. Most Christians that are strong in their belief aren’t going to let that kind of **** affect them.

I will agree that the ‘learning’ cable networks seem to have an agenda as far as religion goes. I watched a series of 3 shows last week on National Geographic about ‘Jesus the Man’. It seemed as though the show tried to reduce Jesus to just a man, who was affected by his environment, and focused on his humanity. It was like they were trying to strip him of his diety and present him as another man.

This is not the tomb of Jesus either. The tomb of Jesus is in Jerusalem and it is empty because Jesus died and rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
Hi
Yes, the Gordon/garden tomb is where Jesus was only laid temporarily after the event of crucifixion. It was not like a grave. It was a roomlike place with a bigger opening may be called a door and a smaller opening which may be called a ventilator. Jesus was delivered from the cross in a near dead position, and the sign of Jonah which JesusYeshuahIssa promised to the adulterous Jews was gaining consiousness from the neare dead. If you ponder over the miracles of JesusYeshuaIssa you would see he never resurrected a real dead to life, neither anybody before him or after him. Jesus was treated in the tomb prepared by Joseph Armathea, when he got enough strength he went out from there to Galilee from where alongwith him mother Mary ( that is why you won’t find any accoutn of Mary’s life after whe son and mother went together to an unknown detination). Jesus died a natural death in Sirinagar , Kashmir , India, the tomb shwon by BBC Documentry is therefore real tomb of JesusYeshuaIssa. Please don’t mind, as it is against your traditional belief nevetheless a fact.
Thanks

No he did not die in Sirinagar this is a lie and not a fact. Mary went with John.

Hi
You mean Jesus , when he was nailed on the Cross and he saw Mary in the crowd, he told John to take care of her. Jesus loved his mother Mary, so that was a temporary arrangement. While he was injured and his treatment was going on in the tomb of Armathea, John must have obeyed his Master. When Jesus recovered from the injuries, it is quite rational and logical, he must have taken care of his mother Mary himself. Form Galilee, Jesus and Mary both disappeared from the scene together. It would have been quite appropriate for Jesus and his mother to go in search of the Lost Sheep of Benie Isarael, which history tell us they did go. His disceples in Jerusalem and also his enemies(Paul included) were unaware of this. It was quite natural for them to die in Sirinagr, Kashmir, India. No harm searching for truth, no compulsion. I respect you faith and love you.
Thanks

I finally watched the film. It was filled with untruths distortions and unrelated garbage. everything was hypothetical. There was not truth to it at all.
Jesus did not survive the crucifixion. He was seen going up to heaven and the angels had to tell the people to go because they were so mesmerized. Mary went with John. When she fell asleep , her body disappeared because it was assumed into heaven.
Jesus is God, the resurrection is proof of it. The apostles would not have followed Him if this were not the truth.

When I watched the show, I heard the Canadian statistician say exactly what is being attributed to him in the article. There is no change. He said he developed the probabilty of the cluster of names based on the information about the frequency of names at the time. He said his analysis was a function of the reliability of the frequency of name distributions that were provided by the producers.

Perhaps the web site said something different, but the statistician didn’t. He just did the math based on the variables he was given.

Statistics… the science that explains how 2.3 people can eat 0.4 sandwiches :D

That’s what I keep explaining to my boss whenever the project goes wrong :)
