Jesus using the devil to torment saints

I’m not the most educated on this subject, but I do know Jesus gives everyone hardships. He tests us with what He knows will be challenging enough for us and He wants to see how far we will go to overcome those challenges. Everyone has struggles and God wants us to prove to Him that we can meet His standards. We all have to be willing to get into Heaven. Jesus doesn’t purposely harm others or send the devil to torment others. He allows it. I think the devil talks to God and God only allows him what He thinks we can handle. I also feel like God is shielding us from a lot more demonic harm than we know. He is probably protecting us right now. Without His ‘ok’ it would literally be hell on earth. There have been some nights where I felt the strong presence of satan and I felt like he was torturing me. I started praying and after a while it went away. For being only 15, I’m not sure what challenges God is planning on giving me in the future, but what I’ve endured so far, I feel like with God anything is possible. I hope you feel the same. God Bless.

I think the Wisdom 3: 5-8 might be relevant.

it is very difficult to answer your question. but what I understand is that God never be happy to see their unhappy childs. thanks for sharing such a great post with us.

That’s really the crux of my problem. According to St Gemma, the Lord said that demons were coming “at [Jesus’] bidding.”

I know God allows things, but isn’t that different and actively sending torment?

These are private revelations OPer that you are not bound to believe and they are not doctrine you need to believe to be a Catholic.

Agreed that I don’t need to believe them. However, by virtue of being permitted to believe them, doesn’t that imply that the theology contained in them is approved of by the church?

There are certain “victim souls” chosen by God who, by their full consent, receive the brunt of the devil’s anger. Padre Pio, St. Gemma are two. They have agreed to this for the salvation of their own souls and that of many others. This is part of the church’s long history and mysticism.
We don’t have to find them good role models. I sure don’t, although I honor their experiences. Me, I live a completely “normal” life and don’t aspire to be like them. But then again God obviously has not called me to it.
To be a saint all we need to do is correspond to our call from God. For most of us it is NOT to suffer as Padre Pio did.

From what I have read the evil spirits are on a leash, so to speak. God allows them to tempt so that if the person resists He can grant graces to make them spiritually stronger.

God does not tempt beyond one’s strength…unfortunately many succumb to the temptations.

You are not obligated to believe that Jesus talked to St. Gemma Galgani as it is a private revelation. You do not have to pray the rosary; you do not have to pray to Mary. These are not Catholic dogmas necessary for salvation. They may be efficacious to do but you are not required to do them.

Thanks for the responses. You’ve all given me food for thought. I’m not as scandalized as I once was. At least I know this is a good forum to discuss difficulties I run into.

God bless.

Read Tobit 12:13 in Vulgate-based editions. Also read Wisdom 3.

God reserves the right to test us as He sees fit.

Why would Jesus send the devil to torture someone?
The devil cannot lift a finger without God writing it into his permissive will.

The most evil acts of human history - the holocaust, 9/11, the crucifixion of Christ, were instigated by the devil and allowed by God to bring about his ineffable purposes by his inscrutable decrees.
