Hi, Im new to the faith. I am curious, if the Jewish denounce Christ as being the Messiah, how do they explain the prophecies of the old testament about the coming Messiah? Are they still waiting for Him or do they now completely disregard this part of Gods teaching?
 
Not to step on the Jewish toes, but they have several answers, some of which they put together.

1). the Christians are looking back on the Prophecies and making them fit Jesus.

2). the prophecies are actually about Israel as a whole and not about one man.

3). Jesus did not fulfill the actual role of the Messiah, so he could not have been the Messiah

They are waiting the Messiah still. Understand that they do not see the Messiah as being God.
 
“God has given them a spirit of stupor. Eyes that they should not see. And ears that they should not hear to this very day.”

The Jews have experienced a hardening of heart so that the Gentiles can have access to faith which is in Christ Jesus. When Jesus returns to the earth the Jews will accept him as Messiah as he will defeat Gog (Ezekiel 38). The Jews will accept him and there will be a scene much like when Joseph’s brothers rejected him and then were reunited.

There are a number of answers to this but, to put it at its simplest:

1 we don’t believe the New Testament to be anything other than a collection of pious fictions; and

2 even as depicted in the New Testament, Jesus did not fulfill the criteria of Messiah.

Because of criteria 1, there’s not a lot to talk about.

My favorite ben Masada line was that Jews could not have been involved in any of it because the Gospel claims that Jews bribed someone, and no Jew would ever do that.
 
I think there is lots to talk about, such as:

1/ What is your belief that the New Testament is ficticious based on?

2/ Which part of the criteria did Jesus not fulfill?
 
i think a lot of Jews also reject Jesus because of history…

so many terrible things have been done to Jews in the name of Christ, and Christianity, and getting over that can be very, very difficult for Jews.

many Jews state that because Jesus didn’t restore Israel and bring about peace and righteousness around the world, that He could not have been the Messiah. Christians as well as Messianic Jews would answer that Jesus refered often to His second coming, when these things would be accomplished (Daniel 7:13-14, Matthew 24:27-31, Acts 1:6-9).

many Jews simply don’t know enough about Jesus or the prophecies He fulfilled to believe in Him. they have never read a New Testament to be able to see the prophecies fulfilled in Jesus, and to study the evidence for themselves.

Hi.

Oh, BTW, who were the Jews? Who were the Jews then and today? We are now looking from a view of things that happened two thousand years ago. Looking at them in perspective, of course it was the Jews who first became the followers and accepted Jesus as the Messiah.
But there were those who did not and that include the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees, the Sadducees and others. Considering that Jews did believe especially after the resurrection where it became clear that Jesus was the one prophesized by the ancient prophets, others who did not are rightly categorized by steveyb3 as:-

I always enjoy reading Christian reasons why Jews don’t believe in Jesus, one learns so much about Christians that way.

I was only ‘aware’ of Ben really because, while I imagine that the ‘lit crit’ approach could be quite interesting at times, a general message board has got to be one of the least productive places to indulge oneself. He did seem to keep quite a number of people innocently occupied though!

What’s your belief that the Qur’an or Book of Mormon are fictitious based on? (In other words, it would be up to you to establish that it wasn’t).

Well is it that that Jews lack the required intelligence and intellectual ability or is it more a serious defect in the content of their character?

However as far as God is concerned apparently He made a big boo boo and not only did He have to correct His eternal covenant with the Jewish people and make a “new” one it turns out the original one is irreconcilable with the corrected one. However not to worry. After He corrected His mistake with the Catholics, He apparently had to correct Himself again with the Moslems and than again with the Protestants etc. I don’t know. You’d think He would have got it right the first time. Then again what do I know, what with this spirit of stupor and all these problems with my eyes and ears 🤷

Considering our history passed down from the Apostles, and the fact our Church has done more service for the poor and suffering of this world, I would not call us and our New Testament ficitious…inspite of our human failings, we do the best we can to follow Christ and serve others.

Jews do not “denounce” your religious beliefs, we do not accept them, just as we do not denounce Buddha or Buddhism. Jews believe that it is easier for the gentile than for the Jew to get into the world to come than for the Jew as the gentile has only to follow the seven Noahide commandments. There is only one God and we are all his children.

Catholics are the ones who have claimed (at least until Vatican II) that Jews are damned or are going to Hell or are not going to Heaven for following their eternal covenant with God. Now if you believe that Yeshua bar Yosef is a god or a messiah or both you better also believe that he has no problem with the things done against his people in his name over the last two thousand years.
 
I asked a question in an effort to understand, not to step on toes…but that question has still not been answered.
I would never say another person’s belief is ficticious, not even Koran or Mormon.
I simply believe my own, if you asked me why I would tell you…but you can not answer my question…
What criteria did Jesus not fulfill? Pretty straightforward I think.
