Ah yes, homily 1. As I said, excellent homilies.

Nothing is more miserable than those people who never failed to attack their own salvation. When there was need to observe the Law, they trampled it under foot. Now that the Law has ceased to bind, they obstinately strive to observe it. What could be more pitiable that those who provoke God not only by transgressing the Law but also by keeping it? On this account Stephen said: “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart, you always resist the Holy Spirit”, not only by transgressing the Law but also by wishing to observe it at the wrong time.

They really should be read in full though.

More nonsense. St. John chrysostom calls for what? Having nothing to do with their festivals. The myth of the Jews as mere innocent victims throughout history is exactly that, a myth. Peddle such nonsense if you like, but that’s all it is.

For you, brethren, are become followers of the churches of God which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus: for you also have suffered the same things from your own coutrymen, even as they have from the Jews, [15] Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men; [16] Prohibiting us to speak to the Gentiles, that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath of God is come upon them to the end.
You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God. [42] Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me: [43] Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. [44] You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.
Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you, by miracles, and wonders, and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know: [23] This same being delivered up, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain.
He’s in the best company I can imagine.

It’s quite simple: Jews are loved and cared for children of God who were chosen by him thousands of years ago. When the Son of God was incarnate of Earth he came as an ethnic Jew.

Now, of course Jews should convert to the One True Faith. But ‘traditional Catholics’ believe that although Jews are in ignorance for following a religion that is no longer the whole Truth, they are loved by God, who wants to bring them to the fullness of the Truth (the Catholic Church).

Of course there’s a boatload of differences between the sacrificial cult of the Jewish people of Israel as presented in the Bible (whose rightful inheritance is Christianity) and the religious minority that is modern day Judaism.

This is anti-semitism, no? That Jewish folks as Jews (not because of their individual personalities or failings) are in prominent positions, use their influence against God, etc.?

It is always dangerous to rely on generalizations about any group, whether Jews, Blacks, Asians, Catholics, gays, and so on. For example, there are atheist Jews who consider themselves cultural Jews. This means they do NOT turn their back on the moral and ethical values of the Jewish people but rather apply those values in fighting against injustices done to all peoples, not only Jews. Thus they remain a light unto the nations even though they are atheist Jews.

Also, so-called positive stereotypes about Jews (as well as other groups), such as how intelligent they are, are nonetheless stereotypes. They deny individual differences within a group, as well as suggesting the members of the group excel in only one particular way. Be aware that Jews can be just as stupid and ignorant as any other group of people.

Well I did say it was a theory, and not just mine, but also that of some prominent Catholic professors, and from a religious context, it makes some sense.

The point you make about Jews being a light unto nations as atheists, is interesting. In one sentence, you talk about how we shouldn’t generalise and how Jews can be just as stupid and ignorant as any other group, and in another, you talk about atheist Jews being the light unto nations. Surely either you think the Jews were chosen/anointed in some way by God to do good in the world, or they weren’t? If they weren’t, then indeed they do not have any God given extra intelligence and so claiming ‘Jews remain a light unto nations’ doesn’t make sense anymore, as we can only treat them as individuals just like others.

By the way I disagree with you on atheist cultural Jews applying the moral and ethical codes of the Jewish people (I assume you mean the religious ‘Jewish people’ here) to fight injustices. It sounds like we are now talking about left-wing liberal Jews, as most atheist Jews are (that’s just a statistical fact), who often fight for abortion and gay rights. Those are absolutely not the same ethical codes that religious Jewish people have. Of course, it isn’t just atheist Jews who fight for this, and I’m not trying to claim that.

I do try to avoid generalising, but I also feel the term anti-Semitism gets banded around much too easily. As one Catholic professor and author has said, it seems to be a bit of a double standard when a Jew can write an article in a Jewish publication about how Jews are largely responsible for the legalisation of gay marriage, and be praised for her article, while when a Catholic writer writes or says the same thing, they’re an anti-Semite, just because they see it as something negative while the Jewish writer sees it as a positive.

Just to once again be clear on the theory here. It’s a ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ scenario. If you subscribe to the idea that God specifically chose the Jewish people, as Christians generally do, then the fact that so many Jews now don’t believe in God and prefer to fight for things like abortion and gay rights, is tragic.

confirming the antichrist as the Messiah of the Jews. The accusations of antisemitism in this matter are a laughable joke.
This is one thing; mistreating, insulting, or killing Jewish people because of it is another.

Do you look kindly upon the Catholics who disagree with you, or the Church, which also disagrees with you?

Who do you consider Jewish? Only religious Jews (about 0.5% of US population). All Jews (about 1%). I am unable to understand the fear of such a small number, though the fear of Muslims may also relate? Do you fear Hindus or Buddhists?

Is it purely for religious reasons? I’m trying to understand your point of view.

Big difference…Catholics and others killed for various reasons. The Jewish people were killed for only one reason…because they were Jews.

all private revelation…not necessary to believe at all.
Antisemitism was around for centuries.

There are a few issues with that vision. If the antichrist is a possessed human, all humans have Guardian Angels, even the most wicked or possessed. Our Guardian Angels do not leave us while we live. And even when possessed or subject to diabolic influences.

The antichrist , if truly the anti of Christ, will still not attempt to exalt himself above the Trinity, because what would that do?
It will…
Go against the first part of the prophecy there which states the antichrist will preach what seemingly does not differ from fundamental christian doctrine.
Because the antichrist, in order to deceive the prophesized most of Christendom, if he announces he is above the Trinity , game over. This antichrist would get laughed off stage and , like one of my neighbours, who is convinced he is ‘more special then Jesus’ summarily treated in a similar fashion by health professionals.

The antichrist, to fool most of christendom, as predicted numerous times to happen, must preach fundamental Catholic doctrine.

Some Jews when they convert they join Messianic movement.
I was in Amsterdam messianic Community.
It’s like a Judaism but with faith in Messiah.
The rituals, songs, symbols, are Judaistic in nature.
Torah, and her sanctified image.
Every one touches Torah with their Bibles (Jewish Christian Bibles)
It’s a Jewish sub-culture which believes in Messiah.
Not far from them there is a Synagogue.
I don’t know if they like each other but on the Nord of Holland the Synagogue is definitely for the Jews only, and not for tourists outsiders.
(Even though there are some days when tourists can have a look)
I would not say that among Muslim city neighbourhoods Jews feel absolutely safe but
I think they are safe because the security cameras and police every where and so on.
