So a friend of mine mentioned that Muslims do not believe in the same God as we Christians and Jews. Does anyone else have that belief and if so why? I posted this in the Non-Catholic forum because my friend is a Protestant. I am interested to hear if this is a universal belief within Protestantism or just his personal belief. Thanks 🙂

Muslims believe in Allah who is a different God than Yahweh. That’s how I understand it. I used to teach Western Civilization and religion was a big part of that class.

The word Allah is the Arabic equivalent to the English word God. The word Allah is used by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews as well as Muslims. Although they have an incomplete understanding of the nature and revelation of God, Muslims worship the same God whom Christians and Jews worship.

“The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in himself; merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even his inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God.” (Nostra Aetate 3)

Allah if you go back in history was the god of the moon, before Muhammad started preaching about him being the only god. The angel that appear to him was satan so don’t believe a word he says

God transcends all of our attempts at definition. We as Catholics believe we are closest to the truth, but so do Jews and Muslims.

To answer the question, yes I believe we all worship the same God, just understood differently.

If you take the behaviors of the god described in the Quran and compare them with the behaviors of the God of the Bible you will note many discrepancies.

Islam is a false religion, based on nonsense promoted by a deluded man whose habits are probably not allowed to be mentioned in this forum.

You state that the religion is false but does that mean the God they proclaim to be false?

841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator”

I have no-doubt the plan of salvation includes those who acknowledge the Creator. I might be misunderstanding scripture but the Creator is the Second Person Trinity. Just as He is the Savior?

John

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Those that received him, to them he gave authority to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his Name.

I believe Jesus Christ is coming to judge the living and the dead.

Paul

I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom.

Peter

Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

I don’t know what everyone else in detail has professed, I pray they are praying to God the Father. I don’t know that though.

That kind of rhetoric is sure to keep hatred alive between our faiths.

God is still God, no matter who among us claims the best definition or levels inflamatory statements.

Thanks Gary, but my question is not on their salvation. That is for another topic, but my question is on whether or not they believe in the same God as we do. The Jews believe in the same God as we Christians and we accept their belief even though they deny Christ as the Son of God. How is that any different than say a Muslim who believes Christ was just a prophet? This has never been an issue. All the Catholics I have ever spoke with in person have stated that all the Abrahamic religions believe in the same God. It wasn’t until my Protestant friend stated otherwise that I discovered others have a different opinion on it. The Catholic Church states they believe in the same God. Their methods may be different than ours but they can still profess the Living God.

A Jew may say the same thing about Christianity…

How many is “all”? Million, Five,?

There is only “One God”.

And I believe my answer was I do not know what they profess to believe. The Jews follow the OT so do I.

Islam took root in a pagan land, and allah was a pagan flase god. One of over 300 who were worshipped in the Kabaah. Allah had no son, but did have three daughters. The God of the Bible is no moon god. Pray hard for muslims.

I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. – Paul

If Jews, Hindus, Muslims, and other people can enter Heaven and worship God apart from Jesus Christ as being the exclusive way… then there is no need of the incarnation, perfect life of Jesus, suffering of Jesus, and the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Jewish faith and Christianity was started in “pagan lands” so I do not see how that would give credit to your statement.

Thanks CU…BUT lol…Salvation is not the topic here.

Creation, became Salvation through Christ or there was NO REASON for God to become man.

Allah is not the same god. Muslims believe the Quran is the word of god and don’t accept Jesus as the Messiah. They just view him as a prophet. We believe in the Blessed Trinity and
accept Jesus as the Living Word of God. Judeo-Christians know from the Bible that the son of Abraham that was to be sacrificed to be Isaac, while Muslims believe it is Ismael. In the Bible there is much warning against false teachers, including those that will deny Jesus as being the son of God.

As for our relationship with people of other religions I would suggest Vatican II
specifically
