As for why any Jew would hate their Jewishness despite converting to Christianity…because for some selfhating Jews, becoming a Christian is a way to escape being Jewish. In times past some who converted even changed their last names to further “hide” (such as, going from Cohen to Cowan).

Since you like movies, you might want to see SUNSHINE starring Ralph Fiennes. A very powerful movie that shows how assimilation via conversion worked in one Hungarian Jewish family (I won’t spoil the ending for you!)

I dont think all jews who became Christians or catholics cursed their being Jews. Remember that the first Christians were Jews and not Gentiles and the founder of Christianity was a Jew. The first apostles were Jews.

Also bear in mind that the first persecutors of early Christians were the Jews. Please read Acts of the Apostles. There were many narratives there that tells the persecution of the early Jewish converts to Christianity.

How the early Christians (Jews) were all in one room in fear of the Jews.

How the early apostles like Peter and John will be jailed, scourged and threatened not to preach publicly in Jesus name.

How St. Stephen the first Christian martyr, who was a Jewish convert was stoned to death by the order of the council of elders and Jewish high priests especially when he exclaimed looking up to heaven he saw Jesus seated at the right hand of God.

St Paul of Tarsus was killing early Christians by the order of the Jewish councils and priests and his story of miraculous conversion who he saw the apparition of Jesus Christ Himself and told him, Paul, Paul wy are you persecuting Me?" Then he was blinded by the light.

Spanish Inquisition came centuries later. Both are however not pleasant to recall.But I beleive that all things have a good purpose according to God’s plan. As St. Josemaria Escriba once said"'Omni Bonum". God sometimes permit bad things to happen to us so that good things will come forth from those bad things. Based on my personal experience it is true. I will not be right now where I am now if not for that very bad thing that happened to me 15 years ago and now looking back I thank God for those ugly life’s events. I think of Job in the Old Testamnet.

The rest of her CD is in hebrew and I have no idea what she is singing except I think it is prayers or bible verses. You can order her CD but I warn you it took 8 weeks for me to get it from Lebanon and it doesn’t come with translation except we all know the prayer.
I have the words to that on the CD and it is very diff sort of and I found the translation but would have to look through all kinds of papers to find it. Goodnight everybody:)
 
I think it is a mischartericzation to attribute modern hebrew to a made up langauge of zionists! Modern hebrew is simply how people speak Hebrew. Yiddish is not the everyday langague used by all religous jews. For starters, I don’t think the Sephardic use it. In NY, I hear religous jews speaking hebrew all the time.
 
you are correct. Although reform judaism recognizes patrilinial descent, normative Judaism only looks to the mother.

From an online biography that I found, it says he “turned his back on Catholicism” when he was 15. So, trying to make a statement about Catholicism by giving Roman Polanski as an example is pretty pathetic.

From the website provided earlier about “Famous Jewish Catholics”: film director (both parents agnostic Jews; Roman converted to Catholicism at age 10, active until age 15; has some Jewish ethnic identity)

I didn’t know there was so much religion in comic books, who would have guessed. What about Batgirl? 😃
I have never been a collector of comic books. Now I know Superman aka Clark Kent, did go to Church. Lois Lane would have made sure of that. That is the question as he would have followed her religion. Now this discussion is getting interesting.👍

Okay, thanks for the history lesson even though I didn’t ask for it, nor did I say anything about converts during the Inquistion or from the seventeen and eighteen hundreds. :whacky:

I’m talking about TODAY!!! Not a few thousand yesteryears!! 😃

The converts of whom I speak are Bob Fishman, Rosalind Moss, Roy Schoeman, just to name a few. Roy wrote a book called Honey from the Rock where Sixteen Jews Find the Sweetness of Christ.

Oh, and I finally found those Bob Fishman videos!

The most orthodox speak only Yiddish (Satmar, etc) Traditionally, amongst orthodox Jews, Hebrew is a lashon ha’kodesh, meaning its only for use in prayer and shul.

Modern Hebrew is a secularized form of language, which was taken from Biblical Hebrew but is not quite the same. They also adopted the Sephardic pronunciation because they felt it was more “authentic”, but Sephardic Jews I know tell me its not even the same pronunciation as the one they use.

To give one example of how the secular zionists took spirituality and Jewishness out of their new form of Hebrew: the Biblical Hebrew word, “shamayim”, means “heavens”. Modern Israeli Hebrew uses that same word to mean, “the skies”.

Biblical Hebrew uses the word “chashmal” to refer to God’s brightness and power as seen expressed in Ezekiel 1:1, in the vision of the heavenly chariot and the heavenly beings.

Modern secular Hebrew uses that same word to mean “electricity”.

FTR Yiddish developed in Eastern Europe *precisely because *religious Jews refused to use Hebrew as an everyday tongue due to its holiness. Yiddish is a form of High German, written in Hebrew characters.

Ladino/Judezmo is the Sephardic equivalent of Yiddish for Spanisj Jews: it is a form of 15th cent. Castilian Spanish, written in Hebrew characters.

Both types of Jews-- Ashkenazi and Sephardi–developed an everyday language to be used because they felt Hebrew was too holy to be used for everyday speech and should be used only in synagogue.

So if superman was Jewish then Kryptonite was the Achilles’ heel, do you think it would be as fatal to superman as he was just a man, really, for him to eat pork. Maybe he was portrayed as a god.
 
I don’t know if the movie is the same as the books but I suppose they were portraying him as having heavenly parents and earthly parents so may be they were trying to bring religion in to it that way. Not just raising a hand but also a loud voice. Of course Luther is the devil trying to trick him. Moral yes but theological too as you keep seeing his parents on that planet speaking. I think it is pretty mythical but one can place a theory anywhere.

I was recently reading over a website aimed at getting Jews to become Catholics, and the few stories they have there of Jews who converted are the same ones (with maybe 2 exceptions) I first read in the late 1970s, when I began exit counseling. This lead me to think the RCC has not been very successful with getting Jews to leave their faith and convert out.

But I have noticed something also: in more than a few cases, when a Jew converts, their sibling will convert also (I know of one case personally where this also happened, although one of the sisters later returned to Judaism.)

I have also noticed that in many cases, such Jews often died a premature death. I’m not sure what that means, if anything, but I can think of several possibilities.

Has anyone else noticed these or other similarities?

I was not thinking Luthor /Luther sorry. I actually was thinking Lucifer but wasn’t sure how to spell it.
If they thought of making superman jewish they would be thinking he is like the messiah then? He would not be perfect but never die.
What is on topic though is our own rules as we are not to eat for 1 hour before communion, that is our kosher. I am still trying to stick to the commonalities. Yes it would be interesting comparing comic book characters but I still think superman was a protestant. 😃
