Jews who became Catholics: some commonalities

I would like it people on this forum used the name God knows them by rather than handles.

If people are in right relationship with God why do they need to be known differently or by a catch phrase.

(The exception to this is those with new stones) in this case God still knows them by the baptism, naming or good name.

I am happy for people to be in any religion or in none, I trust my God that they will be rightly guided if we all share kindly.

For me i see my God in most religions, God challenges me to see his truth in all beings.

In the Catholic parish where i live the RCIA does not cover much of what is distinctly Catholic and people become “Catholic” without knowing there is a, or being given the catechisum.
Parishoners have told me that they feel abandoned after RCIA.
people in RCIA say well the kids got done through going to school so i guess i will too. The PP seems to accept this as being ok.

In the Islamic society where i live people offer 3 folds saying this is all of what a Muslim needs to believe. Allah is said to have given the Quran but we only need a 3 fold. They are very keen to grab people and say make shihda with me now even if they have not read the Quran.

In my eyes people should know what they are agreeing to.
they do it for worldly things such as contracts but not for the most important thing they have.

I know few Jews we have no synagog but have been blessed to have some (Rabbis) speak in our town.
They have a big thing in my favor saying no one has to be a Jew to be in right relationship with God.

I cant make any one any religion but my God can and sends messengers to do his work.

Web sites are often a poor account of truth due to their bias this is especially so when they speak of why another religion is wrong.
better sites will offer of their own religion.

CA for me has been good place to be labeled. some posters say they know what religion i am and that i am dishonest for not agreeing with them.
i tell them honestly i don’t know or need to know, i just aspire to submit to the one true God. No prizes for guessing how they make their religion look to me.

CA has also been a grate place and some people have shared and help me with purity, All praise be to The Most High God.

It is not wrong to want to and to help people join your religion in fact it is a good thing.

Jesus (pbwh) is narrated as saying pray to the Father (the God of Abraham) as did other prophets (pbwt).
Regardless to your religion this is true, or at least to my understanding in all three i have mentioned.

if you really want to convert some one follow this advice and offer your potential convert to do the same explaining that only God / Allah / — is the guider and he is all seeing all knowing and picks the intercessors.
And it would be nicer if you stuck to the topic at hand.

sorry thought people had talked about name usage in CA, the use of CA, converting and reverting religions, web sites.

I am not well educated.

Peace be upon you and yours

No problem. Wouldn’t hurt to ask questions every now and then though, whenever you’re in an unfamiliar thread.

Shalom!

It is important to know this about HashemEchad/Sepharad (who at this moment is up to an average of 30 posts/day on a Catholic forum) – her re-entry into religious life was facilitated a cult in Judaism that calls itself the “Jewish Renewal Movement” lead by an apostate “rabbi”, Zalman Schachter-Shalomi.

HashemEchad/Sepharad describes her religious journey here:
Sepharad said:
I left (rebelled) in my teen years, only to return later, but in a more modified format. . . .

I have found that what best fulfills my spiritual needs is the Jewish Renewal Movement. This movement, founded by a Chasidic rabbi, aims to give Jews a more spiritual, mystical, personal experience in communing with God.
What HashemEchad/Sephard doesn’t say is that the founder of this movement, Schachter-Shalomi, was kicked out of the rabbinate for advocating the use of LSD. From Wikipedia:
[Schachter-Shalomi] was initially sent out to speak on college campuses by the Lubavitcher Rebbe [the head of a Hasidic movement], but was expelled from Chabad [a legitimate Jewish group] for praising "the sacramental value of lysergic acid." With subsequent rise of the hippie movement in the 1960s, he began to move away from a strictly Chabad lifestyle.
Wikipedia continues by reporting that today the defrocked rabbi supports the “Gaia movement” and the “the full inclusion of GLBT people within Judaism.” Now, you can have your own views about Gaia-worship and the acceptability of the active homosexual and transvestite lifestyles in religious communities, but that is certainly not Judaism as I know it.

Now I do not know if HashemEchad/Sepharad’s “more spiritual, mystical, personal experience in communing with God” comes from the “sacramental value” of LSD or embracing “the full inclusion of the GLBT” lifestyles. But I do know this – one does not need to drop acid to get closer to God.

I hope that this can help us understand HashemEchad/Sepharad better and help us to focus our prayers for her.

Not to mention his association with LSD took place about 40 some odd years ago. All one has to do is read the article you so obligingly provided the link to, and it is easy to see that the Jewish Renewal Movement is not a “hippie love fest”

Does his experiment “only” 40 years ago excuse him from this behavior? Are you excusing him?

What behavior? YOu think because some guy dropped acid 40 years ago, Hashemechad’s posts or the Jewish Renewal Movement are somehow suspect?

Do you think you have a grasp of the Jewish Renewal movement because one of its founders were kicked out of Chabad?

I don’t mean to sound disrespectful, but, I don’t really care about the JRM or about the Chabad…means nothing to me.🤷

Oh, are you referring to something posted by “Bible Reader”? I have had him on ignore, so I didn’t see anything he had to say about Jewish Renewal, but leave it to him to bash people he knows nothing about and has not even met personally.

BR had better not badmouth the Jewish Pharisees of his Bible, because he is now acting just like a Catholic Pharisee! Judging someone for one thing he did many years ago. For someone who claims Catholicism as his religion, he sure is mighty judgemental.

BTW, does that mean we can judge former abortionists who converted to Catholicism, for the sins they committed decades ago?

For BR’s information, the Jewish Renewal Movement has led many Jews to return to Judaism, who had been involved in Buddhism and other religions…by showing them that Judaism does have a vibrancy and does care about people’s needs that more formal streams of Judaism did not “speak” to for them. I welcome ANY movement that helps people find God, and helps people heal spiritually, as long as the movement does not harm anyone or anything.

And for BR’s information, one of the many things that interested me in the JRM was the fact that, unlike many traditional Jews, they care about more than just what goes on in their own little community. They are active in helping the environment, the poor, working for peace in the Middle East, and offer assistance to anyone, of any faith or no faith, who need spiritual help.

And they do it without judging anyone or anything…people of all faiths are welcome at their services.

Abortionists who converted to Catholicism? Now that’s a low blow Hashem. All the doctors I know who performed abortions were Jewish. And YOU are the judgemental one. You antagonize, with your constant reminder of how “one isn’t Christian” or “Is that how Catholics act”? As if we Catholics can’t have any emotions. You have been totally disrespectful with your hatred of the Catholic church since you told everyone your biography in which you were beat up as a child by Catholics. Then changed your story over and over and we had to hear how poor Hashem was persecuted throughout her whole life. Your story is old now…

Then I’m not sure what your comment to me regarding someone’s use of LSD was supposed to address.

She was not implying that Catholic doctors perform abortions. She was giving an example of a doctor who may have performed abortions before converting to Catholicism.

I did not change anything I have said; my story is out there for anyone to see.

Since you’re not active in the pro-life movement as I am, I guess you wouldn’t know of the abortionists who have become pro-life and repented of what they did. Some even joined the Catholic church (surprised you didn’t know about that at least!)

Should their former sins be held against them too? How about St Augustine’s life of immorality before he became Christian?

What a hateful bunch of “Christians”, who would judge a rabbi for one thing he did many decades ago. Remember what your Jesus said: “Judge not, lest you be judged…” Why do you see what is in someone else’s eye, but not what is it your own?

Funny, but I was thinking the same about you…

Let me tell you something, one last time:

Before I found this forum, I had defended your church when I felt it needed defending. I even did it when Jews and Protestants expressed shock at it. I once had an anti-Catholic Protestant tell me that he worried I was on the verge of becoming Catholic, because I defended some of the things they said and did (he was beign dramatic.)

You have no IDEA how much I defended your church, so much so that I was contacted by and became friends with the late John Cardinal O’Connor due to a few articles I wrote, as a Jew, defending the church’s actions via Pius XII, during WW2.

But now? After having been here and running into the likes of you and people like BR? I would never again defend the Catholic church for any reason, even if what I heard being said about it was most definitely wrong. I figure with “defenders” like your illustrious self, the church surely has no need of a Jew to defend her.

I was often thanked by Catholics for defending the church, because they felt my defense carried more weight since I was not only not Catholic, but a Jew. But why should I continue, when Catholics like your illustrious self exist, to do a much more admirable  job of it?

Do you even *realize *how many people you have turned off to your church?

Do you?

Care to see my PM inbox sometime along those lines?

How did this thread get so mean?

Now you are sounding like Judas. The kind of friend that turns on you. You go do whatever you have to do the Church will prevail.

Because you are a Jew? The weight will be on you at the last judgement, moreso. Jesus will say why did you persecute me
again and again and again.

Why is it important to know?
Well if HashemEchad/Sepharad spoke for herself, it wouldn’t matter. But she is speaking for “the Jews.” She turns the forums she participates in into medieval disputations – where her religion is on the line. She started this thread!

She never says “I believe” or “I think” – she always says “the Jews believe” or “the Jews think.”

And, if anyone dares try to share with her something about Catholicism, she says something like this:
happychristian, Do yourself a favor and save it. I’ve heard the Christian message so many times in my life (partly due to the work I do), that in my mind, the Christian message (Catholic, Protestant and JW forms combined) is synonymous with TV commercials that are overplayed too often.

KWIM? I long ago reached saturation point with it, and the study of it, for me, is strictly academic.

(FTR, I have read the entire NT through, several times. No need to keep posting lengthy excerpts, I’ve seen it all previously and could probably even quote much of it to you from memory.)
Now if HashemEchad/Sepharad wants to follow an acid-dropping ex-rabbi who supports gay and transvestite lifestyles – well that’s her right, I suppose. But I think she should have the intellectual honesty to admit that she speaks for herself only.

So I think it is fair game to point out that she is on the fringe.

However, to see that she is unbalanced – it is sufficient to merely observe that she is now clocking at 32 posts/day – most of them viciously attacking Catholic beliefs – on a Catholic forum.

She admits she likes to pick fights to get her mind off her mom’s death. Now I am sorry about her mom, but I don’t think that baiting and bullying Catholics with her new-age Judaism is an appropriate form of behavior. We should try to get her to seek help.

Please join me in prayer.

I wonder why certain Catholics on this forum forget the sins of calumny and detraction?

Do you know what they are?
