Hi,
We find out Jobs possessions in the beginning of the book. Then God allows Satan to strip Job of all possessions even his children.

Now at the end of the book chap 42:10—God gives Job back all his possessions in double , because Job was faithful to Him,except his children. Job starts out with ten children and God gives him 10 .

Now in speaking with a JW I was told that the reason God gave back 10 children instead of doubling them, as He did with the live stock, was because of the resurrection at the second coming. At that time Job will have his 20 children. The 10 that Satan took and the 10 that God gave him. I guess they think that at the resurrection at the end times Job will meet up with his original 10 children. I asked how they came to this deduction because it is not stated in the bible and ,if I remember correctly, they deduced it because of the resurrection at the end times. (???)

This doesn’t make sense to me.

I have checked all the commentaries that I have and there are no footnotes in my bibles on this verse.

Does anyone out there have any comments on this?

Thanks

7 After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8 So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.” 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord told them; and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.
10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.

Well, I thought Job’s fortunes were restored only after he prayed for his friends…as commanded in the verses before v 10? 🤷

And Job’s fortunes were restored twice because of his continued obedience and patience…not anything else…🤷

…are children supposed to be possessions… can I go out an father 100 children and set up a factory or sell/rent them out?

…and if, as Christ stated, in the resurrection we will not live as we do now (marrying and having children) but that we will be as angels, what purpose would it be for Job to get another 10 children when he is resurrected/at the Parousia?

Maran atha!

Hi, Phyllo!

…glad I could help; I think that part of the reason why we miss things in Scriptures is due to the little things that evades us… I love the challenge of searching Scriptures because I learn things that I may have missed or that may not have had come into focus before… so… keep’em coming! 🤓😃

Merry Christmas!
