Well, of course Joel’s theology is incorrect. I will say this though, he is encouraging, motivating and friendly. And I do believe he is a Christian. God does want us to be encouraging, friendly , and reaching out to others with the Gospel . My parish is a very poor example of these things even though they have all the correct doctrine.

Kudos to you for disagreeing but also finding the positive! We all need a dose of medicine like that.

The only safe way to watch these guys is if you are laughing at them. Look carefully at Osteens stage; not a single Christian symbol any where.

Be sure and send him lots of $$$$$ because God will reward you 10 times over.😃
I don’t recall ever hearing Joel ask for money let alone saying people will be blessed if they do so. He doesn’t even take a salary.

" I like Charles Stanley…he is easy to listen to…

I agree, he does say “Listen” alot but always has a good message.

What do you think… as a Catholic, is it harmful to watch Protestant services like those of Joel Osteen?

joelosteen.com/Broadcast/Pages/ThisWeeksMessage.aspx

I’m in RCIA right now… do you think this would be harmful to my education?

God bless all!
Joel Osteen is not really a Protestant. He’s created his own religion of Osteenism. He has no objection or protest of any faith tradition as long as you send in the long green to Joel.

I think your local Lutheran, Methodist, UCC, Presbyterian, Episcopal, etc. pastor would agree: “He ain’t one of us!”

I think you’re more likely to encounter a true Protestant service on Sunday TV in the local broadcast of the community mega church or Baptist church in your area. These guys will give you a good talk without begging you for money like Joel boy. In answer to your question, Joel Osteen is harmful to everybody who believes him, but he does have great dental work and a pretty wife, you can’t take those away from him, oh, and LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of money! He’s got LOTS of money, in fact, if I had that dental work and an Armani suit I might start up a ministry just like his except my wife would kill me.

Suggest you study your RCIA material and leave the Protestant iterations to the Protestants.

For GOOD Catholic RCIA stuff check out the iTune store and put in “Fr. John Riccardo” in the search. He’s on the beam!

Bless you in your formation!

Osteenism, eh? Hm! Weird.

YES.

With all the Doctors and Fathers of the Church. With all the saints and good holy people of the Catholic Church - don’t watch someone teaching heresy. Yes, of course it’s harmful.

Find something Catholic for goodness sake.

I agree with the previous poster that Fr. Robert Barron at www.wordonfire.org would be a great choice. Fr. Barron has weekly Sunday homilies on his site, and he has compiled a great 10 part DVD series called ‘Catholicism.’ 👍

I think that there is no harm in observing any of these Protestants…Joel is not as good as his father. I liked his father better. Joel you know is not ministry trained…Listen to his dad and compare and contrast with his son…

this is the website of Angelus temple today…the fate of the megachurches of today…you probably never heard of matthew barnett…

angelustemple.org/
Like the case with the Osteen family I would compare brother Matthew with his father Tommy and brother Luke, who used to have the First Family in Whittier CA, but now seems set to sucede his father back in Arizona. His gift probably manifest itself as the administrator of the Dream Center the success of which lead a Foursquare supervisor to recruit him for the senior pastor position at Angelus Temple. As a stand up preacher he is among the weakest I have seen who has a regular TV show , Dream Center unless they changed the name in the last couple of years, on the international evangelic networks.

When he first took over Angelus Temple the Assemblies of God website listed Angelus Temple as one of their churches. I don’t know if a special arrangement was reached allowing Matthew to remain AoG in his role as head of the Dream Center and Foursquare as the pastor of Angelus Temple

Tommy is right up there with Charles Stanley…Matthew is weak as you say…Luke is older and is easier to listen to…What is a father to do…sometimes you got it and sometimes you don’t…

yea…to me it comes down to a waste of time, unfortunately, because he is a pretty able orator,
and has a large following, just think what would happen if he used his stage to preach the
gospel, like a protestant Billy Graham (better yet like a Fulton Sheen, but i can’t see him becoming Catholic)

He basically presents a Cross-less gospel (think that’s an oxymoron) using the Christian
name under which he preaches feel-good, prosperity gobbleygook, while saying nothing about
the cross, and Christ’s suffering for sin, sacrifice, his blood etc, and everything that revolves around these.

His congregation needs to spend the money to send that man to a seminary, i think…what
could it hurt. 🤷

This just might put the notion of the value of a seminary trained pastor to a guy like Olsteen…building on another man’s work…it appears that the flocks come for something other than being prepared…says lots does it not…

A pastor without a Bible? That’s a new one for me. Now I’m going to have to watch. 😃

You don’t hear him ask for money when the cameras are on. There is not just one safe at Lakewood but many.

Be fair, they are taken tithes and offerings from a full NBA basketball stadium. From a security standpoint gettng it all together in a single location would take to long and provide a lure for the more aggressive and ambitious armed robber.

Why? Just brush your teeth and then hook one index finger in each side of your mouth. Stretch said mouth until the breaking point. Look into the mirror and now you have experienced Joel Osteen. Amen? Oh, one more thing. Send me a lot of money and then I’ll have experienced Joel Osteen. Amen?

I view him more as a positive thinker rather than a preacher. There was a lot of this type of writting several decades ago. I forget the name of the man who was well known for this. He wrote a number of books. Joel is a rather harmless talker and may do some good for those who are down and out. I think it would be a mistake to look at him as a gospel preacher.

Just a thought.
