“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
What does Jesus mean by no one can come to the Father except through me? I have seen a priest online say that he receives messages from God the Father. But doesn’t this passage mean that Jesus is our only way to the Father?

It must be read in context. Take it along with what he says in the rest of the chapter, taking into account His sayings in the other Gospels. But, reading all of John 14 will give you a better picture.

The Haydock commentary is silent on this verse, which generally means that it is to be taken plainly: He is the Way.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has this to say:
Prayer to the Father

2664
There is no other way of Christian prayer than Christ. Whether our prayer is communal or personal, vocal or interior, it has access to the Father only if we pray “in the name” of Jesus. The sacred humanity of Jesus is therefore the way by which the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray to God our Father.
The way I see it, between God and man there would be an infinite and eternal separation, if it were not for Jesus. In him (being both fully human and fully divine), God and man are joined, and for us a way is established between earth and heaven. Through Jesus, our prayers are heard, graces are given to us, and we have reason to hope for eternal life in the glorious presence of the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all.

All mankind that is and will be saved is saved by Christ. There is no salvation apart from Him. (Even for those who did not have a chance to believe in Him but will be saved by His mercy are forgiven by His sacrifice alone) And Christ is the sole mediator between God and man so we only have friendship with the Father through Him, and we can now pray and ask in His name because of the communion He allowed us to have with God. He prays for and intercedes for us, and the Father grants the world grace and mercy through and by Christ alone.

Saint Faustina puts it beautifully, based on a vision she had. “Towards the end of the litany I saw a great radiance and, in the midst of it, God the Father. Between this radiance and the earth I saw Jesus, nailed to the Cross in such a way that when God wanted to look at the earth, He had to look through the wounds of Jesus. And I understood that it was for the sake of Jesus that God blesses the earth.” (Diary 59-60)

It is for the sake of Jesus that God blesses the word and He is the Way (to Heaven and communion with God) the Truth (for God is ultimate and untainted Truth) and the Life (“I am the resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)

He is the way by doctrine and example.

Jesus said later in John 14, 23 Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Haydock Commentary John 14, Verse 4
And whither I go, you know, and the way you know. Thomas replied, we know neither. Jesus saith to him, I am the way. They knew it, says St. Augustine, (tract. 69.) but they did not know, that they knew it: they knew their Master, Jesus Christ, and he was the way: they also knew, that is, believed, the kingdom of heaven, but they knew not, that he was returning thither: for as yet their imaginations were upon a temporal kingdom.
I am the way, by my doctrine and example: I am the Truth, by my promises; and I am Life, by the graces I offer and give. (Witham)

Jesus told us we can address the Father directly in our prayers.
“Pray then like this: Our Father, who art in heaven, …” (Matthew 6:9)

Might compare it to using a landline. When you speak to someone on the phone, you’re talking directly to them. But it’s not the sound waves going directly from your mouth into their ears. It travels via the telephone wires. We can speak to the Father that way and the Father can speak to us also in that way. It travels via Jesus automatically.

Jesus is the Door to the Father…

Realize – they are One in a manner not easily realized…

It is through the work of the Son and through faith in Him that you are reconciled to the Father.

Recall as well. When Jesus Teaches how to Pray - He goes thusly:

"Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name…"

See - we too can speak directly to God the Father
