John Hagee's praise of Mary- Mother of God

No- it wasn’t Eddie Long who spoke disrespectfully about Our Lady. Like I said, it wasn’t one of the famous, big preachers- it was one I personally wasn’t familiar with.
 
I have heard a non-denominational preacher say that Mary had more children because the Bible says that she gave birth to her “First-Born.” First-Born, of course, means that the male that opens the womb is to be dedicated to God.

I honestly do not see why Mary’s virginity after giving birth to Jesus really matters. I have heard so many people wasting their breath on an argument like that in front of non Christians when they can be preaching the gospel to them. Who cares if she stayed a virgin till the day she died? Who cares if she had more children with Joseph. Whether Mary was a virgin or not after Jesus’ birth does not affect my salvation. The only thing that matters to me was that she was a virgin when she got pregnant and gave birth to Jesus Christ because it fulfills the prophecy in Isaiah .

They go strait to Our Heavenly Father, Jesus the Messiah (which I tend to agree with this). My mom has asked Mary to pray for her and give her advice to be a better mother for me, and I believe Mary has helped her in that. For me, I only pray to my Heavenly Father though I sometimes ask Mary to pray with me.

There was a movie called “Oh, God” with John Denver in it. In the movie, God appears as an old man telling a pastor that he isn’t helping people on their journey to salvation - he’s only helping his ego and his pocket book. God says he should to sell shoes instead… the funny part? The fat pastor in the movie was supposed to make fun of John Hagee’s “fire and brimstone” and “condemnation” tactics of preaching.
 
Speaking as a former Baptist pastor I classify Hagee’s preaching as very weak. He uses a lot of platitudes, cliches, and illustrations pretty much stolen from other, more able public speakers of the past. Every time I hear him I think of that famous MASH quote: “Welcome to Henry Blake’s cliche festival”. There is no real substance in his preaching, but then showy preaching never has any.

Because Mary is a servant of the Lord, and remains a sacred vessel - The Ark of the New Covenant.

That’s a lot like saying “Catholics typically see the Virgin Mary in cheese sandwiches and mud puddles”. It is an unfair characterization. There are some Evangelicals and Fundamentalists who have very hostile attitudes towards her, but to lump all non-Catholic Christians into that group is neither reasonable nor charitable.

Did I ever say all? No. Please don’t assume such.

I made the comment in response to a post that claimed Mary was “highly revered in protestantism”, trying to point out that it certainly can’t be true for protestantism, though I never tried to imply that it was not true for various individuals.

I have come across a few who have made lewd comments about Mary telling me about her sex life with Joseph when I get to heaven, and some of the “she was just a vessel” comments, but I personally have never witnessed a hate towards our Holy Mother.

Sorry to hear that goes on. Absolutely saddening 😦

Mary is the greatest, highest, and most revered creature that God ever made. She is above all the angels even since she is the mother of God who gave birth to him in time into this world. Noone has had such a close and honored relationship with God except for Mary. She therefore is the holiest creature ever to exist. And we know that to be a virgin is a higher calling and honor than to be in a married state with a husband giving up the intimate pleasure of the married life. The single life St. Paul stated was higher, or to be a virgin as he was. Therefore it was only right that she remain a virgin before, during, and after giving birth to Jesus. Jesus Himself required that a person give up all to come and follow Him in a higher state in life. Nothing comes to mind that is higher than being the mother of God.

When one of the women poured precious oitment over the feet of Jesus costing 100 denarii, that didn’t affect my salvation. When Jesus told Peter to go to the lake and the first fish he caught He told him to pay the tax. That didn’t affect my salvation. When Jesus healed the blind man, that didn’t affect my salvation. But these and other events do affect the whole picture Jesus was presenting. And if they were not important, than why were they inspired to be written down? At this point in your knowledge of faith, you may not see the importance of virginity that God asked Mary to embrace. But then you have something to look forward to when you do see the importance God placed on this. Otherwise wouldn’t Jesus have been conceived a different way?

Just a thought.

I’d say you are right. This article gives a more realistic look at Hagee’s stance on the Catholic Church. It seems his apology for anti-Catholic rants was not exactly an apology.

Actually, my Jewish friends said they were suspicious of Hagee’s motives regarding his support of the Jewish people.

I do not presume to know this man’s heart; but I tend to be cautious when it comes to Hagee.

Wow, I didn’t watch long enough to notice I just kind of clicked forward on the time line towards the end. Misdirected hate…I feel a Bishop Fulton Sheen Servant of God quote coming on, and here it is 🙂 There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive the Catholic Church to be!.. Misdirected hate who knew 🤷

No, you didn’t say all, but you did say “typically.” And that is simply not true. We complain when Protestants bash us with generalizations; we shouldn’t turn around and do the same.
