I am sure that your perceptions of it are not in harmony.

You are proceeding from a false assumption that the Apostolic Teachings not found in scripture must harmonize with your interpretation of scripture.
The fact that there are Teachings not found in the scripture, or in the case of Marian doctrines, found only implied in scripture, does not mean that they donât harmonize with scripture. There must be complete harmony of scripture with Sacred Tradition, because they both come from the same Source.
Protestants believe in Purgatory too, they just donât call it that. All who believe in the second coming accept that âin a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, we shall be changedâ. Purgatory, or the state of being made fit for heaven, is outside of time.
Protestants also accept 1 Cor 3:12-15 âŚnow if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw - 13 each manâs work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If any manâs work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
This describes purgatory. Purgation is a Latin word meaning âpurified with fireâ. So, you see, it is in scripture.
